I just got DS an Ipod for chanukah and I am going to get one in Jan. I have over 1000 songs in windows media player...Is there a way to transfer them to Itunes?
The pproblem is right now while I play the tunes in windows Media Player,I can't seem to locate the individual files to transfer them to Itunes

Have you installed Itunes yet? When I installed my Itunes, it asked me if I wanted it to find all my other music files on my PC and import them into Itunes. I clicked yes, and presto, there they all were, ready for the Ipod.

Yeah, try Erika's suggestion first, let us know if it works, otherwise we'll help ya find 'em!

I did that, but it didn't find any songs on media player

Let me explain what I did yesterday..DS went through the songs on windows media player..He put the sons he liked on a playlist..He synchronized the playlist to the Ipod shuffle...The shuffle would not play them..I then installed I tunes..I then transferred the songs from his Ipod to Itunes...I tunes converted them(I think) and then I transferred them back to the Ipod in the new format and they now play on both the Ipod and Itunes.... DO I have to do this whole procedure 3 more times to get the other 750(ipod only holds 250 or so) songs to Itunes?
It's seems like there must be a way to put my windows media player library on to Itunes without putting them on the Ipod first.

you don't have to transfer them to the iPOD and back to iTunes. there's a way for the iTunes software to read all your media files.

when I get home I'll figure out how I did it. but there's a way to open up folders on your computer and convert them. took me a whole day, but I figured out how everything works when I was trying to burn a CD for my dd's sweet 16 party.

toio bad you can't convert itunes to windows Media -- my girls have the LG Chocolate, and the Verizon software to down load music to the phone only works with Windows Media.

I was up until 4 am last night just getting DS Shuffle to play the 250 songs it's playing
Thanks for the help :)

I'll use Itunes to download music from now on.I just don't want to pay 1000$ to replace the songs I already have.

don't look just in your media player folder, the music may be stored in "My documents" or "My mUisc" or some other part of the computer, and if you can open the files from iTunes you can convert them.

now, if someone can tell me...the guy at Verizon told me that if I want to use songs I have on itunes, I should burn them to a CD and then upload them to Meida Player so that I can download them to the phone...is there an easier way to transfer the tunes to media player?

(and yes, my girls are spoiled...LG chocolates and iPODs. so shoot me.)

You can click on File/Import on the Itunes menu, and pick what songs you brought in and converted. The key is finding where in your computer the Media Players is putting your music when you put it on the computer.

I've done a search on my whole computer and it just won't pull up the songs in media player.. I'm really frustrated.

Yes,there is the key... The only place I can find the songs in when the media player is on..If I do a search from the start menu for all music CD's in the entire c drive,it doesn't find them.

Is there a Napster button on Media Player? If so, I think that means it's version 10.

If it is version 10, click the LIBRARY button.
There should be a button towards the top that says Library Options.
Click it and go to CHOOSE COLUMNS.
Find the box marked FILE PATH and put a check mark in it.
Click OK.
Now if you look in your library, there should be a new column added that shows you where the files in Media Player lives.
Go into iTunes and go to FILE/IMPORT. You should now be able to choose the files from whereever they are on your computer that you saw in Media Player.

Hope this works for ya!

Okay I looked at my media player, if you right click on the song it will tell you where it's located in the computer. Hopefully that will help ya. If you need more help let us know.

It now tells me exactly where the songs are located now(Thanks to CRCormier) but when I go to that folder through I tunes or my computer the songs are not there :sad2:

click 'File'
'add file to library'

go to your target folder and hold down control while selecting all of the files.

that will import them into your iTunes folder.
