It's time to panic

I sold all my vital organs this morning, before the bottom dropped out of that market! :thumbsup2

PS. I paid $3.04 a gallon for gas yesterday along I-75!:goodvibes Not as good as Chuck S's price, but much much better than it was. Since now I'm driving to/from work, it's good to be spending less on that.

Where is gas $3.04?? I am moving. I can't stand almost $4.00/gallon anymore. Although, on Disney property it is cheaper than it is closer to Orlando, by about $0.20...one thing Disney offers cheaper than anywhere else near me - gas.

PS. I am not panicking. I got laid off from work, so I went back to school to get a degree in something I know is always needed where I live - teaching!

Gas was $2.96 here yesterday. Walmart and the local grocery store are having an old fashioned Gas War.

There will be a gradual but steady decline of DVC sales, and other than foreigners, look for Disney to start losing tourists.

Well I think that we from the UK make up the biggest group of foreigners who visit Disney, and our news is 24 hour doom and gloom too.

I even watch Neil Cavuto on Fox News (9 pm here in the UK) for his take on things and the British scenario is just as dire - banks being bailed out by the taxpayer, falling house prices, job losses, pensions savings affected .... sound familiar?

Time to whistle a happy tune methinks ...... :rolleyes1

Now the rest of the country can feel and experience what we in MI have been feeling for the last say . . . oh . . 5 or so years? It's not fun but we will get through it.

And if our state wasn't getting screwed over enough as it is, we are still paying 3.32 for gas.

I find it ironic that 6% of the bad mortgages can create so much havoc.

I remember as a kid traveling with my GPs thru Alabama and seeing gas wars of $.05 per gallon. Guess that was a while ago. :upsidedow

I read yesterday the crude was under $90/brl. I'm thinking, if when it was at $150/brl we were paying $4/gal avg then $89/brl should = $2.37. Sure take those prices a lot longer to drop than they do to hike up. :sad2:

If it comes to it, I'm selling vital organs before my DVC!

:lmao: :lmao:

It is what it is, things are what they are. Have faith, don't panic, after all it's only money, not HEALTH. I'm going to enjoy whatever I can while I'm young enough and healthy enough, what the future holds is not in my control - never was......:upsidedow

The gloom and doom is not helpful. It adds to the anxiety.

Please continue to follow the advice of "good" economists - manage your debt, look for good investments, and keep your appropriate level of spending. The WORST thing that can happen to the economy right now is if everyone picks up their money and goes home - it will be worse.

If you stop spending money at the local furniture store, the owner has to lay off their workers. If they lay off the worker, they stop going to the clothing store. The clothing store owner lays off their worker, who had planned to go to Disney. Disney sees a decline and lays off their worker. That worker stops going to out to eat, which causes the local restaurant to close. The owner of the local restaurant was about to buy their wife a new living room furniture set. The local furniture store now sees a further decline and closes shop... repeat cycle until you have a serious recession.

And by the way. We are NOT in a depression. We are not even technically in a recession yet by definition. Those who even mention depression are fanning flames and attempting to create a self-fulfilling prophecy. Its pathetic, and in my opinion the so-called experts and pundits out there saying this should be investigated and face legal consequences equivalent to yelling "fire" in a crowded theater. Give me facts please. And the facts prove this level of talk is unfounded.

Excellent post. You said so well my exact thoughts. :thumbsup2

Ladies and gentlemen, please remain calm, do not panic. We are experiencing some minor turbulence. Oh, and does anyone onboard know how to fly a plane?

:worship: I needed that chuckle! :thumbsup2

Gas is down to $2.80 here. Everything else is up, but at least gas is down. And silly me, I filled up when it was still over $3.00. Hey, it seemed like a good idea at the time.

Doesn't anyone else remember "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy"? The byword of the book/show/movie was Don't Panic!. But of course, they did. And the answer to the universe and everything was "42". Let's elect someone who knows how to use "42".

I don't think we would hear all the talk of doom and gloom if there wasn't an election around the corner. Don't ya just love it how every 4 years we have to be told how much worse we are off now than when so and so took office?
I second the advice to live within your means and turn off the news channels.

Well, election years do tend to bring out the pessimists in the party not currently in the white house, but this is not your garden variety election year. It may not yet qualify as "historic", but it's getting pretty close.

For example, at yesterday's close, the S&P 500 was down about 35%, year-to-date. Only one year---1974---has ever seen a low-water mark that was worse in percentage terms. 2002 was close, at 33%.

1973-74 was the Yom Kippur War-fueled oil crisis. And, we all know what happened in late 2001.

No, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express on my way to WDW this Summer!:rotfl2:

I actually hope that this crisis will help lower the crowds and attendance at WDW. I realize that a downturn in attendance can have negative effects on our Disney experience as well, but as DVC owners, our room is paid for so our vacation can be more affordable than a non-DVC vacationer. It does not look like things will change anytime soon so it would be nice to go in June and July with one-fourth less people (or even more) at the parks.

I am selling two Vero 50 point contracts. I was doing this to buy BLT. I am no longer buying BLT, but I am still very glad I'm selling the Vero contracts.
