It's The Port Orleans FAQ Thread!!!

Just returned from POR on 8/28. I just wanted to let everyone know that building 24 in AB is being renuvated. When we were swimming at night, the lights were ablaze with workers working. (quietly) Also, we were in building 28. I had requested 14 and was disappointed when checking in. As it turned out, it was a great location. Close to the bus stop and a short walk to food. We were close to a quiet pool (which is good because the big pool closed at 8:30). We had absolutely no problems with busses. In fact, in the morning, our bus stop was the first and we always got a seat. I don't think being near the front bus stop is any better. We found shortcuts through buildings to get to the main building. All in all, I was happier we didn't get so close to the food court. It was so peaceful and quiet, great after a busy, HOT day. Oh, like other posters have said. Those bugs! My daughter, son and I got bitten alot. We all ran fevers and had bad headaches. Probably was a virus but I keep thinking about those bugs. Big bites. Bring bug spray. Other than that, it was absolutely wonderful there.

Ick...big bug bites.

Anybody know if end of November/beginning of December is likely to be more bug-free? I hate bugs.

BTW, if they're mosquitos, Bounce dryer sheets ward them off (just tuck em in your pockets).

Glad you liked your rooms, though, and good to know the bayou's being updated, too.

Since my daughters problem with mosquitos the Dr has us using Deep woods off with DEET and even that didn't work!!

welcome back zizzyx:D glad you had such a good trip and liked your AB room. i don't think i'll ask for a specific building, there's always a little bit of dissappointment if you don't get the one you want, and as you said sometimes it works out for the best. i'm surprised the main pool closes at 8:30:confused: seems a little early to me? i don't remember too many bugs at wdw last year the 1st week of dec, but we were mostly in the parks late and not by the pool. i did get bitten this spring at akl though.

I know this has been mentioned on this thread before but I was just wondering if anyone knew the status of in-room refrigerators at POR. I'm scheduled to arrive on Friday 9/10 (after rescheduling due to Frances). BF just asked me if there was a fridge and to be honest I had totally forgotten that I never requested one. I tried to call CRO today but it must have still been busy with callers because I was on hold for a while and didn't want to use up all the juice on my cell phone sitting on hold.

If no one knows the status of whether they have been put in rooms there, I can call back tomorrow. Hopefully it won't be so busy then.

thanks in advance if anyone can help me out!

I'd love to hear the answer to the frig question, too. I ordered one - but I'd love to hear that I don't have to pay for it! That's another $100 to spend in the parks! :)

When I was there last week they said they hadn't put them in yet and didn't expect to start until Oct sometime.....

Got a letter from Virgin Holidays today (our travel carrier) saying that "Port Orleans Riverside is undergoing refurbishment between September and December 2004". According to Virgin, Disney are doing a general upgrade of the rooms including painting, carpeting and soft furnishings. No mention of whether this includes fridges and/or coffee pots.

Does anyone have an email address for the reservations desk so I can drop them a line?

Thanks.

PS: 7 weeks to go!

The word from the CMs is that all the fridges are supposed to be in the moderates and deluxes by the end of October. If you have a room between now and then with no fridge, request one, and you will not be charged for it. Check your bill to be sure, but no charge should go through.

We are going second week of November.

I called POR and spoke to a CM at the front desk and she said they will have the refrigerators in the rooms by our trip.

I believe others have posted that there are coffee makers also.

Soft furnishings? Does that mean they'll replace the mattresses?

Sounds as though the beds in AB need it. Hopefully they'll be done before X-mas (mid Dec actually) when we arrive. I'd like to stay in AB for the theming, but not if I'm going to wake up with back problems every morning. We're always exhausted at night when vacationing at WDW. A good nights sleep is necessary! Hopefully we'll get updates from you all as to refurbishment status as you return from your vacations.::MickeyMo ::MinnieMo

We have never stayed at POR before and are looking forward to it. Do all the rooms in AB have trundle beds and if not which buildings have them? The reason I ask is because we would like a trundle bed but don't want to pay for it. That may sound cheap but we will only have 2 adults and a 3 and a 1 year old. We want the trundle bed for the 3 year old and the other full bed for our 1 year old (she does not sleep in a crib). i understand paying for the trundle bed if there is a extra person but I guess I am just being cheap. Any info would be great. thank you!

They're only available in the Alligator Bayou section. Can't be really specific on which rooms, since not all the rooms have them.

Disney won't guarantee room requests. This might be something you want to ask about when you check in.

Some folk mentioned being bitten by bugs. Hope this is a helpful tip for you. I spray on Avon's Skin-so-Soft Oil (the scent is Woodland Fresh) and I've NEVER been bitten by anything. Scotland is plagued with tiny little insects called "Midges" which are the size of a pin, with the bite of an alligator. Spraying yourself down with the Avon stuff seems to deter them - and I've never been bitten in Florida either. The scent's pleasant and I think the guys would like it too. (It reminds me of Badedas - pine and various aromatics.) You also end up with nice soft skin too! It's a non-aerosol bottle and is an ideal size for holiday as it's not too bulky or heavy.

Only 5 weeks to go - can't wait!

We leave in a couple of weeks. Would love to hear from some folks who were recently there.
Anyone??
How was the resort? Your room? The food court? Crowds? Buses? Bugs? Rehabs?
Thanks!

Hi! Just back yesterday:

Port Orleans Riverside - building 16. Fine location - building 14 is probably better, but, 16 is right next to a quiet pool and laundry. It looks like we had new mattresses and a new shower head.

Crowds- non-existent - we walked on every ride- no more than 5 minute wait for anything. We NEVER used fast pass- didn't need to.

Buses ran pretty well - no long waits or anything.

If I can answer anything else, let me know. I have to post some details about our trip when I get a chance- there were so many things I had with us because of everyone on these boards!!!!

Hi.. we will be there in December.. wondering about a hot tub? we were thinking AB, #14... is this the closest to food court/bus stop?

Just us adults, and we used to stay at PO FQ, and Loved the hot tub there... hoping for the same relaxation at Riverside!
I'm interested to know about the frig also.
Thanks!
Cheryle

Hi all! Yes, building 14 would be the closest - if you can get it. There is a hot tub at the old man island pool. It's a little secluded- very nice.
We had requested a frig on our reservations. When we checked in, I forgot to ask about it. When we got to the room, I mentioned it to the guy delivering our bags - he said to call housekeeping. So, I did that and the woman who answered said I would have gotten one if it was on our reservations. I told her I was holding a copy of mine and it was certainly on there. She told me it would be $10/day. I said I knew that and wanted to the frig; we had some stuff to put in there before we could leave and wanted to get to AK. She said it would be up in 15-20 minutes. It only took 5 minutes and I was never charged.
