It's The Port Orleans FAQ Thread!!!

but the CM at check-in must not have realized it was a king room b/c we found out when we opened the door. :)

They should have known, as it would have been on the room information on the checkin page of their computer screen.

The DPMS (Disney Property Management System) will normally Auto-Select an available room (i.e. already vacated and cleaned) when you check-in. However it can also search/sort based on room options, which for Port Orleans are based on a two-digit code for the paid room type and two extra digits for other info.

The first digit is: "O" for French Quarter or "R" for Riverside.

The second is: "A" for standard view, "D" for water view or "K" for King Bed.

French Quarter's 3rd digit is: "C" for Courtyard View, "D" for Landscape View, "L" for Parking Lot View, "P" for Pool View, "R" for River View, "2" for King Bed or "4" for Two Double Beds.

Riverside's 3rd digit is: "G" for Garden View, "L" for Parking Lot View, "P" for Pool View, "R" for River View, "2" for King Bed, "4" for Two Double Beds, or "5" for Trundle Bed Available.

The fourth digit is:
"N" or "S" for Non-smoking or Smoking (now obsolete), "R" for Roll-in Shower or "T" for Mobility-access tub with grab-rails (POFQ only)

I have no idea how the system copes with those third digits though, as sometimes you'd need two of them to include both the view and the bed type.

I was just kidding.;) And trying to give the CM the benefit of an unintentional error. We had to change rooms due to a medical reason (which we explained in the room request at booking ~we now go through special requests), so called the "front desk" at 5 a.m. - by afternoon we had a manager involved (who told us we should have called earlier as it was now late in the day...had nothing to say when we told him what time we initially made the call and our continued follow-ups with the front desk in person).... and even he took us to the same King room. When he opened the door the look on his face was priceless.

He moved us to FQ, paid for lunch, comp'd a ngt and gave us 6 fast passes. :) Disney can take care of things nicely - but it was a very long day.

Just reserved my room at POR for October. This will be our first time staying there and I'm excited to check it out!

I reserved through AAA, so does that mean I need to have them put in my request ("ground level AB")? Or can I call Disney in September and ask them to put it on the reservation?

Also, does anyone know if the resort does anything special on Halloween night? We did MNSSHP last year, so I don't know if we'll do it again. If the resort does anything we'd probably try that. I've also heard DTD has trick or treating?

Looking forward to October!

Anyone know if POR has feather or synthetic pillows? I'm VERY Allergic to feather; just want to be prepared if I need to ask for pillows!

Andre: That was great! One question ... is a "pool view" considered a "water view"?

The standard rule of thumb seems to be: 1. Note it on the original ressie. 2. Fax your request about 5 days prior. 3. Call the resort 1-2 days prior to confirm.

Just remember that it's a request only and there are no guaranties. :goodvibes

:tinker: I love this site, it is so informative, once I start reading I can't stop myself! I'm planning a trip in Feb 09 with two other Fam's so we will have 13 kids between us. Really want to stay at POR and I know that in AB they have trundle beds does anyone know which building would be good. Also how crowded is crowded is Presidents week?

Can anyone tell me what the fax number is from the UK? I was so pleased when i booked for August 2009 that i forgot to put in a request for a specific area or room. Thanks in advance

Last year we went with VH and I phoned them and they added my requests to my ressie (we got most of them) this year we're booked with WDW UK and when I paid my balance yesterday I added my requests to my ressie then :thumbsup2

This is the fax number 407-934-5777, I would assume it's like with a telephone number you add 001 :confused3

Buildings 14, 15 and 18 are considered "prime" buildings in AB. Check out the resort map here: http://www.wdwinfo.com/resortmaps/port-riverside.htm

As for how busy it gets on presidents week I couldn't tell you. But if you have a copy of UOG it should give you a good idea. Or you could check touringplans.com. :surfweb:

Presidents week is very busy - one of the busiest. It is school vacation for many northeast schools. MLK weekend has higher resort rates and otherwise it's peak season for rates.

It is very crowded, but no worse than some summer crowds.

Have a great trip and fun planning!

Hi all,

I tried asking this on the dining thread but got no responses, so I'm hoping one of the POR fans will be able to answer. Does River Roost still serve the french onion soup and garlic cheese bites? We loved it when we were there in 06 and we were going to make that our light dinner on our first night this year.

Thanks!

Ty

I am so excited...I know this isn't a question, but in 32 days I will be heading back to por, and our plane changed flight times...to get us there 2 hours earlier, which means 9 pm instead of 11 pm. i need to fax and call. I need to make sure we have a first floor because my sister will be in a wheelchair (5 of us so guaranteed to be in AB)

I've never been there but here's a link to their menu: http://www.wdwinfo.com/wdwinfo/dining/diningdetail.cfm?restaurant.ID=299

Don't see the French onion soup or cheese bites on it, though. :confused3
