Has anyone ever sent their kids on the Bayou Pirate Adventure out of POR?

Hi,

We will be staying at the POR for the first time this April. Our family is 5 people with children 8,8, and 5 yrs old.

I'd like to ask the following questions (which are probably addressed earlier but my search funtion is not working).

1/ Which rooms do you recommend - we have had good luck in requesting rooms in the past so I would like to put my request in now with the hopes of getting a better located room. Which rooms are best located - centrally to everything?

2/ Are all the rooms non-smoking? I think there used to be smoking rooms and I am wondering if any of the "old" smoking rooms still have a funny odor?

3/ How is the pool for my young boys (ages above) They loved the pools at Coronado and Polynesian.

4/ How is the transporation from POR?

Thanks so much!

We just got back from POR
1/ I requested bldg 14 as soon as the rates for 2008 opened up, but I did not get it. They offered to move me there the next day, but I declined. We did get put in bldg 18 which was great.
2/ All rooms are non-smoking. I'm pretty sure bldg 18 used to be a smoking one and we smelled no smoke residue at all.
3/ We only went swimming once, I have a DS8 and a DS5. They loved the pool but were disappointed that the waterslide was closed off (maybe because it was lateish--around 9pm?) DS8 (tall) loved that he could touch the bottom everywhere in the pool. They really wanted to swim in the FQ pool. It looked very cool every time we rode past it on the boat to DTD, but we never had time.
4/ Transport was great, we rarely ever stopped at any other stops (we got on at the South depot) and usually got where we were going in about 15-20 mins. (the boat to DTD was more like 25 mins) The bus drivers are always reporting where more busses are needed and we often saw two come close together when there was a big wait. Our only problem was heading to places where we had early reservations (dining or BBB) before the parks opened. They send busses but not as frequently. Our longest wait was 25 mins for a bus to MK for an 8am BBB reservation and the park opened at 9am.

Has anyone ever sent their kids on the Bayou Pirate Adventure out of POR?

There was discussion about this a few pages back. It had good reviews. From my checking into it, seems like all the Pirate cruises are the same other than location and which Pirate hat they receive. pirate:
I am planning this for our next trip, just can't decide which day to do it on...

we were in building 39, it was great for the pool/laundry. the kids swam every day and i could watch them from the room. we were also a short walk to a bus stop. it took us a few minutes to walk to the main house, but since we didn't go there much, it wasn't an issue. i have some pics of the room back in this thread. the decor is completly beautiful. we originally wanted a mansion, but was soooo happy with the bayou. we also ordered from garden grocer, in my opinion it was the best for us and am already planning on reordering again fromthere. the desk kept everything cold for me we got milk, lunch meat, cheese, cream cheese, butter. we had a huge order with the cases of soda/water, bagels, cereal and a bunch of snacks, but we were there for 9 days with 6 of us. you can even request things not on their order list, just put it in comments at the end of ordering. I loved por and if we weren't going to upgrade to a deluxe again, i would defintly pick this resort again. If you need to go to the main house for ticket/dining reservations, expect a long wait. there was never a time the line wasn't huge, and it doesn't move very fast. someone said they waited an hour to get a dinner reservation.

Would three adults (myself, DH, and my mother) and two kids (9 and 7) be comfortable in a room with a trundle? Yes, DH and I get along with my mother very well! Just wondering about the physical space. Thanks!

my 11 yo slept very comfortably on the trundle bed. she actually prefered it to the regular bed. with ho little time you are actually in the room, i think you will be fine.

...My kids were supposed to be on the Pirate Cruise but my TA at DU gave me the wrong time...so when my kids showed up for the Pirate cruise they were so disappointed!!!! They were looking foward to it for weeks...anyway, they cancelled the trip because there were not enough kids signed up.....it sounds fun though!

We just got back from POR

Thanks for all the info. We're counting down the days here! Not sure how the weather was when you were there, but did you (or your kids) find the pools to be warm? My kids are looking forward to swimming! I know they are heated, but I'm just wondering how warm they are.

Thanks!

We were there at the end of September and yes the pools were heated. we went swimming every night with our two DD's 4 and 3 whenever we got back to the resort regardless of time and it was amazing. They didn't shiver once!

Have fun!

we were there for 9 days over christmas and also swam every day....including all day on christmas day. it was great that the pools were heated...even the quiet ones. It's nice to relax, get some adult conversation while the kids are swimming.

Hi!

This will be our first trip to POR. I was a little nervous at first to upgrade from our favorite Pop Century (4 trips) to POR, but feel excited about it after reading this board. Thanks for all the great photos, tips, trip reports, etc.

I have a few questions. I'd appreciate any answers you can give!

1. We drive to WDW. At Pop, you park in the parking lot and walk in to check in. Is there a place to drive up at POR like at most non-Disney motels where you pull up and go in to check in? Do we need to take our luggage in with us or leave it in the car?

2. At Pop, we always had to carry our luggage and it was quite a hike with all our stuff. We should be checking in to POR between noon - 1 pm. If a room is available, does Bell services ask to help you with your luggage or do you have to request it?

3. Is the counter dining and Boatwright's in the same place? How about the gift shop? At Pop, everything (but a restaurant) is located in the same building.

4. Anyone ever go during the second week of March? We usually go the third or fourth week of March, but our break got moved. I'm thinking the crowds should be lighter than we usually experience. The temperature may be a little cooler, too.

Any answers, thoughts, suggestions, will be appreciated!

TIA!

We just got back--it was in the 80s and the pool was really nice and warm (I'm usually a pool-wimp and I walked right in! ) Of course, my daughter jumped in with no problem! The slide rocks!

Do we need to take our luggage in with us or leave it in the car?we drove to--we left the luggage in the car in front while we checked in and then drove around our room. Tell the check in person that you have a car so he will direct you that way--he told us how to walk it first.

4. Anyone ever go during the second week of March? We usually go the third or fourth week of March, but our break got moved. I'm thinking the crowds should be lighter than we usually experience. The temperature may be a little cooler, too.

We got back Tuesday night and we loved POR! We were in AB--building 28. Just a standard view room--but the view was so neat--a little creek and lush landscaping everywhere. My husband thought I had sneaked and upgraded us to deluxe it was so nice!

Ask anymore ?s--I'll answer if I know them!:thumbsup2

As I'm sure everyone else here will say, be sure to take the boat ride to DTD at least once. Also, don't be shy about walking (or taking the boat) to POFQ and the pool there.

I also recommend using the South Depot for Disney transportation. I know they supposedly stop at all stations, but we found that to be more reliable...

Have a wonderful trip!
