It's Pop Warner Week....

We just returned from WDW...12/1-12/9 all at POR (AB building 18).

I don't know what resort everyone else was staying at...but the only reason I knew about Pop Warner was reading it on the boards and seeing the cheerleaders in uniform a few times.... otherwise we didn't hear a peep from them the entire trip!

I heard organized practicing... twice I think, the buses were full on the way home from EMH nights at the parks (twice) and the food court was busy a few mornings.

The cheerleaders that we met, along w/ their families, were polite, respectful and excited to be at WDW. I would stay at POR again during Pop Warner in a heartbeat.

How incredibly frustrating. I just wrote Disney a letter regarding this issue, because I resent having to change our vacation dates as a result of "Disney's refusal to do anything worthwhile" about the problems that Pop Warner brings. "While I understand that Disney does not want to lose the significant business that Pop Warner brings, it is sad that Disney apparently is willing to snub and ignore respectful and considerate guests in order to accommodate disruptive, disrespectful, and aggressive guests."
Did you really change your dates? You signature shows on trip in January 2007 and another one not until 2011. Both trips at Boardwalk. The Pop Warner kids are not at Boardwalk, so I'm a little confused.

Yes, we're really changing our dates. While the current plan is for our next stay to be at the BoardWalk, that isn't set in stone, but we'll most likely be staying at a Deluxe Villa (and we may throw a visit in between there as well). My concern in our case isn't with Pop Warner participants staying at our resort; I've heard a lot of really unfortunate stories on the buses and in the parks as well. I hope that clears up any confusion.

Here's what I experienced when I was there this past week -- Please note - I stayed at the same RESORT even and had no true problems to speak of...

Ok, just got back from 6 nights at All Star Sports ... three nights of which were shared with the "Pop Warner" crowd.

I had no problems with the kids at all. Yes, they did practice out on the grounds but not before 9am and very rarely if ever after 7pm.

Yes there were lines at the food court.. the worst of which were around breakfast hours. I fully expected that given how busy the resort would be around that time.

The good news was that the kitchen did NOT run out of food and I still managed to eat -- same as always. :thumbsup2

I had a refurbed room in the Touchdown section. I stayed in a king bed room with the slightly larger bathroom. I found this room to be way more than adequate for my needs and felt like I had LOTS of space in the room.

I have some pictures from the resort and from my room which I will add to this thread later today.

There were some crowded bus situations on the way to the parks from the resort but again - I expected that. I didn't experience any kids cheering on the buses or at the parks, but that's not to say it didn't happen. It just didn't happen on the buses I happened to be on.

And yes, while I was at the resort on Saturday night when some folks were ejected for the fight that happened near the arcade, I somehow managed to miss ALL that drama.

The ONLY thing I saw that gave me significant pause, was the behavior of an adult chaperone towards one of their teenage charges. Had I been able to identify what group they were with or what room they were in =-> I would have reported it to Disney security.

Anyways, there it is! All in all, my advice would be that staying at All Star Sports during PW week isn't for the faint of heart, it's not necessarily all bad news either. I never saw the kids in any significant numbers on my limited park visits, but then I never made it to MK at all this trip -- so I'm not the most reliable reporter for that information.

Hope this helps,

Knox
