I'm planning a long weekend for DH's birthday and at first I booked POP. Then I upgraded to PO-FQ. Then AP rates came out, and my DU agent got me the AP rate at FQ. Then I looked on mousesavers and saw AKL standard was $119, so I asked my DU agent about WL - all she had seen was woods view, so she tried to get me WL woods view for 2 nights of our long weekend, but all they have is courtyard. I told her to just stick with PO-FQ, but now I'm having remorse! I really want to be at WL at least for 2 of the 4 nights. I'm such a Disney resort snob!!!

Please help convince me that I'll love FQ! I haven't stayed at a mod in almost 7 years! And the last time I stayed at a value was when I took a student group to Disney to perform in Magic Music Days. But all of our personal vacations have been deluxe since our honeymoon in 2000. I am SOOOOOOOO spoiled!

I need a 12 step program to teach me to just enjoy that I'm at Disney in a Disney resort. Moderates are good, too, right?

Step 1: Admit that you have a problem... :teeth:

Hey, welcome to the club! Most of our onsite stays have been deluxe with some mods scattered in there for "flavor." We like both and the moderates offer some great theming, wonderful pools, fun food courts and great transportation. You'll have a great time (and on your next onsite stay at a deluxe, you'll really appreciate it more! ;) ).

Well, I completely caved and went for a deluxe!

We're now staying at AKL in a standard room for all 4 nights. I've stayed at AKL before, but only for 2 nights so we didn't get to enjoy the resort as much as we would have liked. I loved Mara and DH's favorite restaurant, Boma, is right there, so I'm sure we'll do dinner there one night.

I may have to face the possibility that I will never see a moderate or value again....;) unless I take my choral group to perform in Disney's Magic Music Days. Then I'll be in a value or mod.

I am SO obsessed with Disney! And it's getting worse! But I wouldn't change it for anything!!!

Yep, right there with you. It can be a gradual process. Growing up we never stayed on site. Got married, Honeymoon at Poly, then All-stars, CB, WL, AKL, ..... Now, nothing less than a delux. Sad. Really sad. :sad2:

My name is Pam, and I'm a Deluxe-a-holic!

Started out with the value resorts in 1994, moved up to moderate in 1996, then on that wonderful May morning in 1999 we checked into the CR and we're hooked. Since then we've stayed at Beach Club, Yacht Club, Poly, GF, WL, and the Swan. Going to the Beach Club again 7/2-7/9. I must also add that we've never paid rack rate...always get a discount either by way of AP or in the good ol' days there use to be room only codes for the general public. How nice that would be if those would come back :goodvibes

So now, with AP's in hand, we go every year at least once and enjoy the deluxe resorts without guilt or shame. Now that we don't commando tour anymore, we take time to relax at the resort's pool and enjoy the beautiful surroundings and the amenities. Definitely couldn't go value again, MIGHT be able to do a short trip to a moderate.

Is there a 12-step program to cure this addiction? I don't think so. If there was, I wouldn't be interested. We LOVE the deluxe category.

Ya, add us on the resort snob list too-
once the girls will demand space on our trips we'll probably start at the All Stars and possibly work our way up- but for the foresee-able future we are all deluxe! :lol

I actually like the moderates. You can usually park near your room if you have a car. And the grounds are so beautiful. But since I am a DVC member I book these resorts. This time we are staying at the Villas at the Wilderness Lodge. But because we might not go next year we are also staying at the AKL to see the animals.
To show I also consider the Moderates: when we wanted to add another day to our trip I had booked POFQ. This is my favorite moderate. Then our waitlist to V@WL came through so we won't be in a moderate this time after all.

You are in good company. ;) And I'm proud to report my children have inherited my love of disney resorts. :teeth:

How is my namesake doing these days??? :lovestruc Is she walking yet? :)

Hey Erika,

I think my son is on the same path as your sons - he loves the Wilderness Lodge and I think he'll be a bit disappointed when we pull up to the Polynesian in July. But he'll soon get over it b/c my DH points out Tikis to him all the time so he'll feel right at home!

As for my 'Erika,' she is almost crawling, she babbles a lot (we get da da, ma ma, ba ba and na na) she is in the process of cutting what looks like 4 top teeth (yikes, baby!) and she thinks her brother is the funniest thing! We listen to Grim Grinning Ghosts in the car every day to and from school, and as Chase sings, she is cracking up!

I wish I got the travel channel so I could see you on the upcoming special. I read all of your trip reports and thought they were wonderful! I'm really looking forward to our Polynesian AND AKL stays!

Take care!
Anne

We're semi-snobs. We haven't stayed at a monorail resort, yet. ;) But, we Honeymooned at WL right after it was built for our first trip, and have been comparing every stay since to that one. AKL came close to measuring up, and the rooms and location of SOG were wonderful but, we can't go there without a sponsor. We were going to do POR before school starts, but I talked DW into going back to AKL since it wasn't much more with the AP rate. pirate:

Hi, I'm Michelle and I am a Resort Snob. :guilty:

I didn't realize the extent of the problem until a few weeks ago. We are DVC members so we are used to staying in the deluxe resorts. My DH and I just went down and to save on weekend points we spent our first night at Pop before transfering to Boardwalk. I didn't think it would be a big deal, but boy was I wrong. We discovered that we are snobs. When did this happen? We are really just normal folk. I drive a mini van, am a stay a home mom and former teacher. DH works hard, but we don't have lots of extra money. I clip coupons and plan our menus to save money. How did I become a snob? :confused3

I'm not a Disney Snob (have not yet stayed at a monorail resort), but I am a DVC Snob.

Everywhere I stay, business or pleasure, they all get compared to Disney resorts.

Sad to say, nothing, even comes close.

Yes, I am a Disney Resort Snob!

I'll bet Chase ends up loving the Poly even more than the WL. ;) My boys thought the volcano pool was "awesome" and they enjoyed playing in the jumping water. The big seller for them was seeing the castle and the EWP from the beach. Now they can't wait to get back. :teeth:

Grim Grinning Ghosts is a hit in our car as well. ;) I swear Nicholas has memorized every word. That one and the Tiki Room. The poor kids haven't got a chance of turning out normal with me as their Mom. :earsgirl:

Bummer you don't get the Travel Channel. Maybe someone here on the DIS has a tape of it they could share. My VCR bit the dust and I'm wishing I had a copy of it on DVD.

Enjoy Poly and AKL... two of my favorites! ;)

One of my late Grandma's favorite sayings was someone "had a champagne taste and a beer pocket" meaning good taste but no cash to back it up... I am afraid this is me! I love the Deluxes but have a hard time shelling out so much money for them. I can handle the "budget" deluxe (WL and AKL) prices with the AP discount, but any higher than that and I get anxious! We have DVC so I have access to really nice accommodations, but we always "add on" cash nights and I do tend to obess about where to stay... I like a sit-down restaurant and I also get cranky if there are not towels at the pool... I guess I am a "deluxe-snob-wannabe!" :)

Are you sure you're not my hubby :) ? Sounds like our story...no on site growing up, honeymoon at Poly, and now we love the deluxe resorts. I love the GF, but AKL is rapidly gaining.
