It's official. I want 2010 to be over with Fast!!

LOL. Thanks for remembering SJ. yep. 5/23-5/31. Of course at this rate, I may have to ship my entire families clothes over just to use the washer or dryer.

LOL I remember you talking about it (packing reasons) but couldn't remember when it was and I was hoping you hadn't gone already.

Terribly sorry for your bad luck..... 2010 wasn't my best year, either (other than, of course, my WDW trip in July).

Let's hope for the best in 2011!!!

Please don't take this as harsh, you are allowed to vent! So vent away!

I just thought sharing our 2007/2009 might make you feel a tad better.

The day before my daughter's 2nd birthday my DH was hit from behind by a large truck while on his motorcycle. He was on and off work for months after a significant concussion and lower back problems.

March, I break my leg - badly in two places... three surgeries later... four months non-weight bearing...with a toddler under foot. Took nearly two years for the ankle to work properly again and I have related permanent problems in that foot now.

Day before Mother's Day, my Mom, who was living with us, finds out she has Stage three ovarian cancer.

A month later the day after her first chemo treatment, there is a wildfire - and we are forced from our homes for four days... thankfully, although stressful, we did not lose our homes although friends of ours did.

July my DH finally gets the results back from his MRI (his doctor felt there was something farther up than the lower back injury) and finds out he has a c4-c5 spine condition from the accident, that if left untreated could cause paralysis... he has major surgery nine days later... I took care of him on crutches...

August, my Mom halfway through chemo, has a full hysterectomy... more crutches... frustrating!!!

August - my Mom's chihuahua puppy she got the previous December is stepped on and breaks its leg - almost needed amputation because it wouldn't heal, but finally it did!!!

DH is off work until about October, I lose my position at work I had built for
the previous 6 years because I have been unable to perform with everything going on.

Mom finished Chemo in October, things are looking better.

March, Cancer is back. Given one year to live.

April, I get my third surgery to remove all the plates because I've lost so much mobility in my lower leg.

The next day, Friday my Mom goes back into the hospital... she has more surgery and is given three to six months... by Sunday they are saying 2 to 8 weeks.

She comes home on Wednesday, wee hours of Saturday morning she has a bowel obstruction, by Saturday night she is lucid again and asks to go back to the hospital... she died Easter Monday at 3 a.m.

My cat died a few months later and then my dog. So I know all too well what a crappy year can bring! That said, we are having a great year this year and I refuse to not enjoy it - life is too short and although I hate putting out money for major breakdowns... there is layaway as a last resort!

Anyhow... be happy, things will turn around - no matter how bad they get, if you are lucky enough they will get better.

I used to tell myself that at least I wasn't dealing with all of that in the middle of a war zone... 'cause there are people handling these things everyday while being shot at and bombed.

And there are moms with broken legs who can't feed their kids or afford t0 or have access to the healthcare that will stop a simple infection that just might kill them.

There are parents who don't know where their children are tonight...

Blessings!!! Chin up!!

I was just thinking the exact same thing......

DGM passed away in Jan
MIL & FIL seperated shortly after DGM funeral, and divorced after 32 years, found out MIL was having an affair, she has since pretty much ignored DH and my children. I could care less if she ignores me, but DH & my kids...NOT SO MUCH!
DGM passed away in April (she was 99)
Son broke his ankle in April and missed entire baseball season
Dishwasher needed replaced in May/June?
Washer/Dryer being replaced as I type this.....
And last but surely not least, the stove needs replaced, but since the cooktop still works, and the oven heats, just not to the correct temp on the knob, we're trying to scrimp by with the cooktop and crockpots, rarely using the oven, until it totally konks!!

And for what it's worth...... after much research, reading reviews, shopping everywhere under the sun.... we went with Maytag Bravos. Top loader HE that weighs the clothes to put appropriate amt of water in. I got a great deal on a steam dryer/washer for about $1250 out the door. Had to use 12mos same as cash though, which is ok but I don't REALLY like to do it.

If you're looking to replace just the washer, expect to pay about $500 for a traditional one with a decent size tub and agitator. With a top load HE I paid about $81 more, well worth it in my town, as our water bill is astronomically high. Hoping this will help to bring down the water bill. To break it down I paid approx $581 for the Bravos Washer, and $665 for the Bravos Steam Dryer. The tub size on the washer is 4.7cf which is almost as big as you can get for the money. I got mine at Sears, and they are still offering this deal thru the first week of October, and Oct 3rd is their friends & family night, extra 10% off.... (prices I provided are with the 10% discount already figured) Good luck on your purchase, I went 3 weeks w/o because I wanted to make the right decision. Thank God for DFIL who let me use his front loader while we shopped (which I HATED, BTW, for what it's worth) Happy we got a top loader! :woohoo:

Here's looking forward to 2011, and hoping it's a better year for all of us!!

When ours died my DH found a used on on Ebay (local pick up only) for $75. DH just did "buy it now" and got pick-up instructions from the seller. Works great!

 Thanks HP. I always allow myself 24 hours to vent, whine, roll around on the floor like a large child but then I make sure I get the "kick in the pants" to remind me of my real blessings.

I'll be fine once I get over the sticker shock of a new one. thanks every one for the craigs list tip.

OP- Just to check, did you search around online to see if you could find solutions to fix the washer?

Mine stopped working about 6 months ago. I had people stopping by to see what they thought and then I googled it. It was this button issue I fixed myself for free.

Even if it isn't that easy, it's worth the 10 minutes of searching. I've gotten some great do it yourself tutorials online- I've saved a few thousand this year alone from all the stuff we have that breaks.

Oh no! That happen to us 2 weeks ago expect that our washer is only 3 years old and it has been repair once. Look on Craiglist like other said already. Good luck!

Same here. One problem I was able to diagnose this way but couldn't fix. Then my son was turning the knob and it just broke. Using Google, I was able to learn how to replace the knob, find a suitable knob, though they don't make my model anymore, buy the knob for about $20, then install it.

These sites are good for car trouble shooting, as well.

:grouphug: When it rains it pours. SO SORRY!!! When my washer broke a few years ago....it was full of water...had just filled. That was a messssssssssssssssssssssss. We bought a front loader through Sears with one of their no interest no finance deals. We keep a sears acct. for just that type of thing. We replaced our dryer the same way too.
