Hold on to your Mouse Ears, Im not happy.
This year Disneyland celebrates its 70th Anniversary. I spent the weeks before my June trip watching the YouTube Vlogs, and seeing all the social media posts about all the merchandise, food, and experiences in the parks to celebrate Disneylands 70th Anniversary. I followed all the updates here on Disboards from everyone visiting the parks. I saved for 11 months and carefully planned my budget and changed my Euros into US Dollars and made a list of things to do and see.
I boarded my flight in Dublin, spent 10 hours on a plane and travelled over 8,000 miles for my once a year 3 day visit to Disneyland California.
Finally my Disneyland Park day arrives. I leave my hotel at 7am, scan into the park at 7.15am, and sit on a bench on Main Street to wait for park opening at 8am.
At 8am, they play the announcement and the doors of The Emporium open and I excitedly look at the big display inside the door of the 70th Anniversary merchandise. But wait, the main thing I wanted to buy isnt on the shelves. When Disney announced the 70th Anniversary, the one thing that caught my attention was the Key To Disneyland Interactive Experience. I thought it was soo cool, a scavenger hunt around the parks, an interactive experience where at the end you got an exclusive pin. There were so many things to love, the Key which was a cool keepsake, the scavenger hunt and then the pin.
Im sure by now, you know how this story ends. I didnt get to buy the key, I didnt get to do the cool interactive experiences around the park. All because it was sold out. And the reason it sold out is because of the resellers and the pin collectors. Greedy people who just want to make a profit and people like me, Disney fans miss out. I ask multiple CM's and they said they would only be getting them back for July 17, the actual 70th Anniversary. They told me to check in a few months as they would most likely be on Shop Disney online and in the outlet stores. But thats no use to me. Shop Disney Europe only sells Disneyland Paris merchandise and as I live 8,000 miles away in Ireland I can not go to the outlet shops in California. AND buying online means missing out on the in park interactive experience.
As I am writing this I checked ebay .com at 11.30pm Irish time on Saturday 5 July. This is what I found. Pages of listings for Disneyland 70th Key. This is the first listing on the page. I have circled in red some interesting information on the listing. This specific seller has sold 18, yes thats right 18 keys already.
So thanks to the resellers I did NOT have a magical experience in Disneyland this year. I could use all sorts of words to describe them, but I need to be mindful of the rules. If you are a reseller reading this, or you know a reseller, or a personal shopper, or an AP Holder who bought multiples of these keys just because you could, you are a disgusting person.
