Hold on to your Mouse Ears, Im not happy.

This year Disneyland celebrates its 70th Anniversary. I spent the weeks before my June trip watching the YouTube Vlogs, and seeing all the social media posts about all the merchandise, food, and experiences in the parks to celebrate Disneylands 70th Anniversary. I followed all the updates here on Disboards from everyone visiting the parks. I saved for 11 months and carefully planned my budget and changed my Euros into US Dollars and made a list of things to do and see.

I boarded my flight in Dublin, spent 10 hours on a plane and travelled over 8,000 miles for my once a year 3 day visit to Disneyland California.

Finally my Disneyland Park day arrives. I leave my hotel at 7am, scan into the park at 7.15am, and sit on a bench on Main Street to wait for park opening at 8am.

At 8am, they play the announcement and the doors of The Emporium open and I excitedly look at the big display inside the door of the 70th Anniversary merchandise. But wait, the main thing I wanted to buy isnt on the shelves. When Disney announced the 70th Anniversary, the one thing that caught my attention was the Key To Disneyland Interactive Experience. I thought it was soo cool, a scavenger hunt around the parks, an interactive experience where at the end you got an exclusive pin. There were so many things to love, the Key which was a cool keepsake, the scavenger hunt and then the pin.

Im sure by now, you know how this story ends. I didnt get to buy the key, I didnt get to do the cool interactive experiences around the park. All because it was sold out. And the reason it sold out is because of the resellers and the pin collectors. Greedy people who just want to make a profit and people like me, Disney fans miss out. I ask multiple CM's and they said they would only be getting them back for July 17, the actual 70th Anniversary. They told me to check in a few months as they would most likely be on Shop Disney online and in the outlet stores. But thats no use to me. Shop Disney Europe only sells Disneyland Paris merchandise and as I live 8,000 miles away in Ireland I can not go to the outlet shops in California. AND buying online means missing out on the in park interactive experience.

As I am writing this I checked ebay .com at 11.30pm Irish time on Saturday 5 July. This is what I found. Pages of listings for Disneyland 70th Key. This is the first listing on the page. I have circled in red some interesting information on the listing. This specific seller has sold 18, yes thats right 18 keys already.

So thanks to the resellers I did NOT have a magical experience in Disneyland this year. I could use all sorts of words to describe them, but I need to be mindful of the rules. If you are a reseller reading this, or you know a reseller, or a personal shopper, or an AP Holder who bought multiples of these keys just because you could, you are a disgusting person.

I’m sorry. I feel your pain. A few years back my daughter desperately wanted a Disney item. She was 7 at the time. She wanted it to play with and it was very popular. There was a few left and the women in front of us bought them all! My daughter was so upset.

I am sorry that you didn’t get a key. You are right it’s not fair and I’m sorry you didn’t get to experience all the interactive things around the park. I hope you had at lease some fun on this trip. Hugs to you.

If things sell out becuase they had 10 items and 10 people each buy one, thats disappointing but fair and ok. Its when 1 person buys all 10 and then resells them online for profit, thats its not fair and not ok.

I know its just a small thing, but the whole point of the Key is for people in the parks to have an interactive experience. There are a lot of people like me, who only have 1 chance to visit the parks and for the resellers to just take experiences away from genuine Disney fans is wrong on so many levels.

I am SO sorry that happened to you!! I would for sure email and let them know how upsetting that was. They really need a better system to make sure people aren’t being greedy for the very popular items.
Emailing Disney is pointless. All the keys are on ebay and other reselling sites. Im back in Ireland and it will be June 2026 when Im back in USA. Its just whack a mole, Disney may catch one or two resellers but they cant stop all of them. Theres nothing Disney can do.

The only real way to stop the resellers is for people to stop buying from them. They only do it because the demand for the merchandise is there and people dont care, they will just buy online. The real problem is everyone online who wants the Disney parks merchandise without going to the parks.

I am sorry also.
I am tired and disgusted with these “ Influencers” that post about their exclusive experiences and crapola to the guest that actually pays .
This just happened to me for the Grand Open of EPIC (Universal Studios)
Annual Passholders were allowed to book resort stay and the one day “Grand Open” ticket months in advance.. And then all the wondrous grand opening stuff happened for the influencers with entire cast awaiting their special entrance with champagne and applause and another Epic night with amazing displays of character greets and fireworks, etc…
When I arrived early morn to check in on that Grand Open day … crowded lobby with long line of guests checking in and given a small bottle of water !
And another long line for their special entrance into the new theme park.
I did not renew my AP and don’t plan to return .
And don’t even get me started with Disney !
I have had APs at DL and WDW every year since forever and never received any type of upgrade with countless resort stays at alllevels of their resorts!
It does not seem to matter but no renewal for me anymore.
My Disney addiction has come to an end .
But your disappointment really is Not Fair

I'm sorry that you didn't get to do it. It's ridiculous to me that people can buy so many. I think Disney doesn't really care because they love selling out of stuff. More money for them. I with they would have a limit on how many someone can purchase. I do agree that people need to stop buying from the scalpers, but again, like Disney, I think the people buying don't care about anyone else.

Oh, BPT, I am so sad for you...it's crushing when you have come so far with your heart set on something...something that they ADVERTISE AND PROMOTE over and over...and then not have it. Thats how the WED journals, post it notes were and I just gave up...i figured they only had them for the media day. But why in the world would someone buy them offEbay?????? They don't work unless you are in the park ...are people buying in advance? I just think the whole thing stinks and I am sorry it ruined your Disney part of your trip...hope the rest of your time in LA was better.

I'm very sorry that you missed out on the item you wanted due to scalpers. I remember a few years ago I wanted a limited edition pin based on the film Anastasia that was releasing at WDW (I do not collect pins anymore so this was my ONE pin purchase) and when I went to the pin store in Disney Springs to buy it, I was told they sold out in less than 2 hours. That pin is now going for over $100 on ebay.

Disney absolutely doesn't care about scalpers and it's sad to see. I haven't been to Disneyland in 6 years but have a trip booked for September but don't plan on looking at any of the merch ahead of time. I don't want to disappoint myself in advance.

I wish they would put a system in place to track items purchased per annual pass. Limit could be to buy 2 - but folks just head to a different store or come back the next day.

I think the keys are unique because most other 70th stuff isn't selling out...

I am with you. These shouldn't be selling out. To me this is like Harry Potter land running out of interactive wands.

I hate the reseller is a thing but in full disclosure I use "personal shoppers" for Disney occasionally. Not often but I do. Disney could fix this by making park merch readily available online. I am a sorcerer Mickey/fantasmic collector. (I even have a sorcerer Mickey tattoo). WDW came out with a huge sorcerer Mickey collection a few months ago and didn't put a single piece of it online until very recently. Disneyland just released a Fantasmic zip up in the parks- nada online. Disneyland Paris released a sorcerer collection too- and nada online in the US. I want to give Disney my money for these things.. but they create the environment in which the personal shoppers/resellers take advantage of.

I'm so sorry to hear this @Bad Pink Tink 2.0! That's so disappointing. The keys were sold out the first few days of my last trip in June. Disney should either stock more or limit how many people can buy. They must know people are reselling them.

I hope the rest of your trip was fun even though you couldn't get a key.

Emailing Disney is pointless.
There are many posts on Facebook threads where people are getting 1 year bans from the park and their MK nuked with no refund (and if they owe payments they must continue to make payments and Disney will take them to collections on it) for stuff like this. I'm sure it's a an impossible game of whack-a-mole but they do take actions and are out there fighting this.

On the flip side I'm not sure how you could/would limit legitimate purchases. There are plenty of wealthy families/people buying a lot of them to collect the set, for their large families, or being the fun crazy aunt/uncle/dad/mom hosting a small army of kids. Heck, we'll have six kids/young adults in our party when we visit in a few days and if I wanted to be the fun/crazy uncle/dad would you really want the CM to have to interview me to see if my purchase was legit.... My kids are both eager to get one and we'll see if we are lucky to do so.

Sorry you didn't get one. Hope the rest of the trip was fun.

I'm so sorry, Tink, that this put a damper on your trip. I hope you enjoyed other aspects and can put this behind you. I've experienced the same thing and it's so very annoying, not just because of the lack of merchandise for legitimate fans who are there in person but the crowding etc that accompanies the mass of merch hogs.

These days, I don't even bother with most merchandise. I don't need or want more merch but there are definitely some exceptions. However, it's easier to be cavalier about not getting something when you have the ability to go several times a year, are older (ok, OLD), and trying to keep from adding to an already overstocked assortment of "things." I also know that no one in my family will want them when I'm gone.

But I hope that your trip was otherwise great and that you had fun!

I remember one trip we saw a toy (funko from splash mountain) on our way to splash mountain. Told the kids we would buy it on our way out...well you can guess how that turned out. Looked for it everywhere and everyday after with no luck!!!

It’s VERY frustrating. When I see merch I want I try to not get too attached because of this.
I tend to see the merch I want well before I arrive and it’s hit or miss if I get it.

This year I did go ahead and order the beautiful 70th anniversary mug on shop disney
I wanted that so bad and I didn’t wanna get there and have it be sold out. Plus buying it ahead of time and I don’t have to bring it on the plane. And I was just thankful that it came packaged well and then one piece.

But yeah, I do want one of these interactive magic keys and I know they restock on the 17th and I will be there about a week later and I’m just crossing my fingers, but I’m not getting too excited just in case

Hopefully the rest of your trip was amazing in every other way, Tink! 🧚🏻
