I think that would be a great Jambo Meet.... Maybe we could catch a Braves Game

:thumbsup2

Please go to Stone Mountain. I'll even drive over there to meet you. :goodvibes

Now you'll visit when I'm at AKL! :lmao:

I'm in!

Back to planning my AKL visit ... :surfweb:

I'm in for the Meet too -- although I will be traveling a lot in Sept & Oct and, oh jeez, baseball season will be over before we know it............. and Chipper will be starting his retirement. :(

Just a gentle reminder that we are not supposed to discuss smoking on any thread other than the official one -- which is a sticky.

There are only 2 "designated smoking locations" on the Jambo map. One is in the front near the walkway to the buses, and the other is beyond the Spa/Fitness Center, near the hot tub.

Both are isolated enough so that it should not pose any problems. However, if you are truly concerned about the smell and want to take every precaution, then you should request to be in Zebra, Kudu or Ostrich trails and avoid Giraffe Trail. The 2 Designated areas are closest to Giraffe Trail -- although I have stayed in Giraffe Trail many times and never had a problem. :thumbsup2

I'm sorry, I didn't realize it was against the rules! Thank you for this info!

AquaDame -- regarding your concern, there is a door you can take to exit the building for the bus stop where you won't have to walk past that DSL in the front (although the smell usually doesn't come out onto the walkway).

That stairway is in Giraffe Trail. Anyone can exit there, but you need a room key to open that door from the outside. :thumbsup2

I hope I have helped to put your worries to rest. :goodvibes

I know.... We have to hurry if we want to see him before the season is over...:worried:

No apologies needed. Your question was fine -- we just have to be careful that it doesn't start a discussion about smoking -- that would be breaking the rules! ;)

Absolutely, thank you! I feel much better - walking quickly by is no issue. :goodvibes

I'm pretty sure you're right. Amazing that he spent all those years with the same team and that he's going out still at the top of his game! :goodvibes

his average is awesome and still looking good.... Fielding is still on top!

I am sure there are a lot of people with that date circled... I think he is a great guy and I hope he has a wonderful life after Baseball... I don't want to see sad stories and all that...

maybe he will join the broadcast booth with Smoltz

We are in a 1 br villa at Jambo. I had not even considered the smoking area. And I was not aware we would be over looking the pool. I hadnt planned on making any requests. I might have to think about this. I cannt sit outside if there is smoking.

I wouldn't worry much. First off, the pool is 5 levels below you. It would be hard to notice any smoke from that high up (60+ feet). Second, the smoking area IS about 10 to 20 feet "removed" from the end of the furthest spur sticking out of Zebra trail. That means it's about 20 feet (+60-ish feet lower) from 3 total 1 BR units.

If you're worried...request close to the lobby. You'd be fine.

They will be 3 and 5 this trip. They have Sept and Oct birthdays so last year that were JUST 2 and still 3 when we went. They both napped every day, not gonna happen this time. And Im guessing we will have a little more time in the parks because of this.

My oldest has an Aug birthday (she just turned 10).

My two younger kids have September birthdays (My son is the 20th, my youngest daughter is the 27th).

We've traveled with them, to WDW, since my youngest was 10 weeks old (her first trip), almost every year (missed 2 years out of 10). We definitely limited our park time when they were younger.

Whoa whoa whoa hold the phone. SMOKING?! There is something I had not considered! :scared1: Could someone please tell me where in Jambo we should not be if we do not want to smell cigarette smoke? I am so allergic that if I do not move to the other side of the street if someone lights up in front of me within a block I will have a migraine! I can't smell that everyday, and I want to be able to sit outside/not have it waft into my room! When I pass by the smoking areas in WDW I hold my breath! :faint:

There are three smoking areas at Jambo.

One is just outside the gift shop (between the gift shop and the bus stop...which is unfortunate planning since you basically have to walk through it to get to the lobby doors). You can get around it by looking for a door, off Giraffe trail, that's to your right (if you're heading from the bus stop back to Jambo). It's not ideal, but it works.

One is outside of Boma's/Jikos...basically right off the walkway to the pool. You can avoid this by using an alternate entrance to the pool (like the elevator down from Zebra trail, to just outside Simba's clubhouse). This one is pretty much under cover and there are NO room balconies withing 30 or 40 feet of it (because of the roof over Boma/Jikos). In addition, it's a good 20 to 30 feet BELOW the closest balconies, too. Because of it's placement, it's not really a factor in room selection.

The last is behind the pool bar. It's the easiest to avoid direct contact with (just don't walk back there). It's in site of some rooms..but it's easily 20 feet from the actual building.

You can see them on the map below...they're little blue "smoking" icons:

I'd forgotten, too.

Chalk this up to a "room selection" discussion and we'll leave it where it is, now.

:thumbsup2 This was good information to share though -- evidently, my map has the old information on it as it showed only 2, and one was not far from the playground. I thought they had rectified that - glad to see they did!

Time for me to get a new map! Glad I'm heading to WDW this weekend! :goodvibes

(and yes, I'm packing plenty of rain gear as I have a feeling Isaac - or remnants of him - will be joining me!!)
