I'm glad I could provide some comic relief! Even when Fran is healed long vacations will not be in the cards, but perhaps frequent short ones. Our kitties don't have wonderful sitters like you have. They are usually mad at us for a few days after we get back. I'm pushing it with 10 nights in January.

Kathy - sorry to hear about your surgery, but Fran tells me that getting fixed was the best thing she ever did! I hope you end up feeling the same!

Laura - I hope you enjoy your visit to Texas!

Laura - Thanks for sharing your beautiful vacation pictures!

DizDad7 - From the TRs I've read a Value studio is VERY ctamped for four adults. Though you have two kids, given their age and sibling dislike, you might find the room a bit confining.

:lmao:

And congrats on 25K!

I finally convinced Fran that with this recent bout of medical misfortune, living with RA, we should stop "waiting to get better". That's why we are finally taking a cruise.

:cheer2::cheer2::cheer2::cheer2:

I'm sorry to learn (from above posts) about your surgery , I'll be thinking of you on Tuesday ! I went through this years ago , I'm sure you will be fine in few days :thumbsup2 so that you'll be able to fully enjoy your daughter's visit !!
Special Italian hugs coming your way !!! :wave2: laura

Thanks Laura!

Thanks Alison! I told my doctor that since I no longer needed those parts, he could take them all. :lmao:

Hope all goes well with Fran and your plans for the cruise. pixiedust:pixiedust:pixiedust:

Aren't the standard studios the same size in both the Kidani & Jambo?

I thought that it was just a different setup/layout.

I called both Animal Kingdom Lodge & DVC as well.
The best info I got was definetely the standards/values are in the front 4 bldgs ( in Jambo ).

She stated that the values are situated sparsley across the Ostrich & Giraffe trails. Also same w/ the standards. Now I can book a Standard studio, & possibly get a parking lot view in Ostrich, or I can book a value & get a pool view in Giraffe for 28 points less......:confused3 Not sure how that's possible but that's what I was told.

But the CM that was on the phone didn't seem to confident with her answers either.

I like that Kidani is newer, has a bigger slide and are near pool, but honestly having more things closer to us, ( as is the case) in Jambo, is real appealing.

Breakfast & possibly lunch at The Mara, 2 restaurants, etc etc.

While I'm not sure of the exact room size, no - the standard studios are not the same size. Kidani was built to be a DVC, Jambo resort rooms were retro-fitted and they had to work with what already existed. Even in terms of "deluxe resorts", AKL(Jambo House's) rooms are small.

I'm not home where I can check my records (yes, I keep very detailed records! ;)), but I've stayed in Value & Standard studios at Jambo and I've been on the lobby, pool view (that was a "standard"), on Giraffe & Ostrich trails in pool views and savannah views. I've never had a parking lot view.

We have stayed in a 1-bedroom Value (which was a pool view) and that was great for us 3 (2 adults and an 18 year old). We loved the full kitchen (even though I don't cook on vacation! :rotfl2:), the washer dryer and 2nd bathroom.

Have you posted in the DVC forum? Either in the DVC Resorts or DVC Mousecellaneous forums - there are a lot of very knowledgeable DVC members who will be happy to help you, I'm sure. I know there is a map in existence that shows the DVC rooms and which category they are (Value, Standard, Deluxe) in Jambo House.

Edited: I just found this information on Villa sizes at AKV:

AKV:
Studio: 316- 366 sq.ft.
1BR: 629-802 sq.ft.
2BR: 945 - 1173 sq.ft.
GV: 2201 sq.ft.

Thanks a bunch for the info...The 2nd bathroom that u had in the 1 BR, that I'm assuming was in Kidani. RIght?

Glad to find out thatstandard doesn't just mean Crappy car views...Lobby would be great or the Giraffe side over Jiko facing pool as well..Thnx AGAIn.

Happy to help -- just wish I was home to look at some of my information. You're right, no 2nd bathroom in the Jambo 1-bedroom. Stay in enough different rooms over the years and they all start to blend together!! One day you'll understand EXACTLY what I mean! :rotfl:

:goodvibes

I really don't know the answer... My best bet would be to call the DVC member services and ask.

....I sure wish Wendy would check in - she'd definitely know...

EDIT: Just saw Laura's response....::yes::

OK, I just called to ask if there were any standard rooms on Zebra or Kudu Trails. The CM couldn't tell me. Does anyone here know?

I don't want Ostrich or Giraffe, so I'm thinking I should upgrade to pool view just to be safe... but then I could still get Giraffe. :confused3 Not sure what to do... :headache:

....I don't know why the CM couldn't tell you :confused3 - the std rooms are unequivocally on Ostrich and Giraffe Trails and they DEFINITELY FACE THE PARKING LOT! The last time we stayed at AKL, two of my DSs were IN std rooms....

....why are you worried about getting a room in Giraffe Trail? It's a GREAT location! That is, if you get a pool view room....:thumbsup2 You COULD request Giraffe Trail, near elevator. That way, you could just use the elevator to go all the way downstairs to the 1st floor, which leads directly to the pool. Also, if you head in the direction opposite of walking towards the lobby, there is a stairwell at the end of that hall, which leads directly to the bus depot...

The last time we were in a pool view on the very bottom level we could still smell cigarette smoke. It could have been someone smoking in the wrong area I guess. We smelled it first thing and requested a different room. We ended up on Zebra and it was perfect! Not the best pool view, but not even a hint of smoke. :)

....definitely, someone was probably smoking on their balcony, because NO WAY could the smoke 'hover' over the builing and 'land' in the pool area....plus the fact that THAT smoking area is actually on the THIRD floor, and you said that you were on the bottom floor, which actually is the first floor....

That's what we figured, but we didn't want to risk it. It would have been much better to be down on the bottom. :)

Started to do a live TR on thread, but gave up! AKL wifi was a bit glitchy at times.
We had a great stay, 6 nights pool view and 6 nights CL. Both rooms were on Zebra trail 4th floor. Our pool view room was in 2nd pod, and our Savanna room was in 3rd pod of Zebra, so we didn't have far to move. Interesting to note, our pool view room only had the 1 dresser under TV, (not a connecting room) and our Arusha view room had an extra dresser near to door in the hallway. Even with just me & daughter, having that extra dresser was very nice. 2 drawers under TV just isn't enough.

Highlights of trip were the Sunrise Safari, GF Tea, lunch at Brown Derby- that Cobb salad and grapefruit cake live up to the hype! We also tried the Fork & Spoon movie at the DTD GMC which was fun. And of course the CL stay was fantastic. A nice indulgence :goodvibes

We weathered issac, just a day of rain, didn't even come close to Tropical Storm Faye, thank goodness.

Park crowds seemed a bit busier then usual, esp the last week. When we checked in on 8/22 AKL was at 100% occupancy rate, def. unusual for end of August.

It was fun seeing some of the fantasy land expansion, and looking forward to seeing more during our Jan. trip. We already booked POFQ for Jan 2013 with CAA 20% room only discount. Took some of the sting of leaving out :upsidedow

We had several dinners at Mara, and I was really impressed. They have 2 daily specials, one is a salmon dish, done differently each night. I had the salmon twice and wow was it good. IMO every bit as good as what you'd get in a TS restaurant. Friend had the ribs which she said was good too. I recognized the soups from Boma. One night had the Veg. flat bread with the greek olives, artichoke etc. also yummy.

I love the water parks, but this visit sadly we ran into rude adults in both parks :confused3 One couple in late 20's? just walked in front if us and helped them selves to tubes for the slide. I spoke up saying we were waiting, and the woman actually turned to me and said- well 2 people cutting is no big deal :sad2:

Second time was in BB lazy river. a Woman (50 something) and her husband walked right by the line of us who were waiting for tubes and waded right into the river helping themselves to the tubes. :furious: What is wrong with people????? These are adults that should know better, and speak English!

Also rude children too, sadly. Gave up trying to get a tube at BB pool. Those kids could see me heading to an empty tube, and would dart in before I could get one, more times then I could count. On one occas. a girl, I'd say a tween, actually ran right in front of me to grab tube i was reaching for. I said to her, you realize I was here first reaching for the tube, and she just looked at me, smiled, and grabed tube. Am I missing something here about manners and curtesy :confused3 But i guess it's these same rude mannerless adults are teaching their children they don't have to be polite either. Sheech!
I think they should have a queue at the BB pool similar to Crush & Gusher where there is a line of people waiting for tubes, and the people exiting pool go up to the line and pass off their tube to the next in line.

But aside from the rudness at the WPs, it was a wonderful trip, and can't wait to go back in January. I'm really looking forward to the Little Mermaid attraction which should be open by then. Have a bit more to wait for the Dwarves Mine Train. That sounds like fun!

Got home to reality Monday, back to work Tues. our school started. Haven't unpacked yet! Will try tomorrow!! Trying to get back on pacific time! The nights are tough, can't seem to stay awake lol.

CIAO to each and everyone !
How was Summer ?

Here are special wishes to everyone planning a trip to WDW in the near future !! pixiedust:

Marco and I have been blessed with a WONDERFUL AUGUST ! and we are very thankful about this ! My parents and his Mum did well all month long , so we could completely enjoy our Hawai’ian vacation !!

Here are some of our most “intriguing” memories – which we are happy to share with our AKL friends !!

In Keauhou (Big Island) we had a touching Vow Renewal ceremony , at sunrise , by the ocean : it was a complimentary feature , offered by our resort.
I especially was so emotional – and we made also some new friends !

In Kauai island we saw the most beautiful “works of art” by Nature and came across to “strange” signs , such as “Nene crossing” ( Nene is the Hawai'i state bird ) or this one !! ;)

ry%3D400

This is “the view” we loved every day from our hotel room in Big Island : actually I could see sunset sitting in the armchair or from my bed – no need to go on to the verandah !! ( although we spent lots of time sitting there and watching the green turtles and tropical fish playing in the tide pool just below our balcony !! Something I’ll never forget !)

ry%3D400

One of the highlights of our vacation was a day-long trip to the Kilauea (active) Volcano , where we admired gorgeous rain forest , incredible plumes of thick steam and gases rising out of Halema’uma’u Crater , a lava tube ( we even walked through !) and A LAKE of molten lava !! glowing in the distance at night !

ry%3D400

It was a perfect vacation and we have now so many beautiful memories about it !
This is why we both thought of sharing some photos with you all .

As you always listened to our “big or little” problems with so much understanding  and friendship – we are now happy to tell you ALSO about our “incredible” vacation !

Love … or should I say ALOHA to all of you !!
Have a beautiful weekend !! Laura & Marco

Sounds like you had a wonderful trip! I love The Big Island and have gone over a few times to race in the Queen Lil race on Labour Day weekend. When there we have paddled with the Keauhou Canoe Club. Great spot.
We have stayed in Kona on Ali'i Dr. and Waikoloa. A beautiful island to be sure. It's amazing watching those turtles, and the dolphins!

Aloha! What a wonderful trip that you both so deserved! thanks for sharing.

Sue, I am glad to hear that for the most part you had a great trip.

Thanks for the info on your rooms, I wonder why extra dresser was there?... I can remember all my stays only having the one dresser in the room.

Rude people are my downfall and like you I am not afraid to speak up, but I always seem to get more and more irritated when it happens. Good for you in being able to still enjoy yourself after these occasions.

Maybe they should have the same pass off system, I would write up your experiences and the options you saw for correcting the problem, and send them off to Disney and see if it helps... I am sure it would not hurt.

Hope you have a great day and it always takes a day or three for me to get back on schedule after being out to California.

well true to form I fly i a couple of hours and still have not packed.... For that matter the clothes are just now in the dryer.... :rotfl:

Oh well, I am sure I can pull it out....:thumbsup2

On two previous stays, we had a room at the end of a pod. There was a dresser where a connecting door usually is.

Last December we stayed Club Level. I requested an end room; I felt we needed the extra dresser because we had four adults in the room and we were staying 10 nights.

They couldn't get us an end room, but provided a dresser, which was put in front of the connecting door.

I'm assuming that anyone can request an extra dresser. It wouldn't hurt to ask.

Kathy
