It's just a jump to the left...

OMG - how did I forget about the newspaper and squirt guns?

Hit a tree and sing a song Janet!

Shadow casts are "look at me" exhibitionists??? Do you feel that way about all live theater?
Sure, ALL actors, live theater, TV, movies, etc., do it to be noticed. The difference is professional actors have at least a bit of talent, unlike the wannabes so desperate for attention they need to dress up and “act” Rocky Horror characters and detract from the film.

I appreciate the insult, thank you. But it might interest you to know that I, and many of my fellow shadow cast members, are ALSO real-life actors with enough talent to get cast in many things outside of shadow casts. Shadow casts aren't your thing, and that's fine, but no need to try to claim some sort of moral superiority over something that's been entertaining an awful lot of people for more than 40 years now.

So it's just silly to you? The shadow cast thing? Ok, that's fine. But what have YOU DONE that has lasted 50 years? What have you done that has become a cultural phenomenon around the world? What have you done that has gone to great lengths to unify many marginalised groups, including the LGBTQ community?

Fine it's not your bag. But insulting these people makes you look both ignorant and like a really big, well, something I can't say on here. So you know what they say. If you can't say something nice...

I don't know if it's still true, but back when the film was at the height of its college popularity, there was a racial divide re: TRHPS; it was definitely a white-kid thing.

When I was a freshman in college (when the legal drinking age was 18), I lived in a 15-story dorm with 800 residents; state flagship school, lots of diversity in that cheap building option. We used to throw resident keggers, and one night I witnessed this phenomenon in action. The DJ put on The Time Warp, and every white kid in the place ran to line up and start dancing it, while every minority kid just stood there with a VERY puzzled look. Not a single non-white person in the place was even vaguely familiar with the film, or had ever heard the song. They thought we had all lost our flippin' minds.

TRHPS was generational, too, but at this point the generation that was too old to get into it is getting well-up in age. My 2 sisters and I are each evenly spaced 10 years apart. I was 14 when the movie was released in the US, and about 17 when it really caught on as a cultural phenomenon with all the midnight showings. My next-older sister was a fan, too, but my eldest sister, who was a mom in her late 30s at the time, totally missed it.

OK I tried again today... granted I was at home instead of somewhere with a live audience. Officially I just don't "get it". The songs were good, but the movie itself was just NOT for me. A couple scenes seemed like they would not fly today, very Law and Order SVU getting involved. (not even mentioning the straight up murders too)

Too bad that you just didn't connect. It's not for everyone, I guess. There are also tons of references to classic films so usually people who don't like the plot at least gravitate towards that as they are fun to spot. I'd say that maybe seeing it in the theatre might help, but probably not...
