Hi again! For those of you who read my previous trip reports, as well as those who haven't (the links are below in my signature) I'm Jeff, a single forty-something IT professional from New Jersey.

I have been a fan of the Mouse for many years now. I first went to Walt Disney World with my family as a kid in February 1978. We drove down in our station wagon pulling a pop-up camper (my parents, we three boys, and my grandmother, for over 1000 miles!) My parents managed to keep the secret that we were going to Florida (not to mention Disney), for as far as Virginia - first they said, "we're going down to visit your aunt and uncle in Delaware, and ride snowmobiles". Then, when we got to Delaware and were still on Route 95, they said, "Actually, let's continue on to your aunt and uncle in Fairfax, Virginia, and we can tour Washington, DC." Then, we kept driving, and we were pestering them about where we were going, and my grandma said to my parents, "Will you just *tell* them, already??"
Needless to say, that was a great vacation; we stayed at Fort Wilderness on-site, and enjoyed the total immersion experience.

However, I didn't truly swallow the Disney Kool-Aid until 1992, when I decided to go down to Disney World as a reward to myself for graduating college. I was accompanied by my younger brother - he paid for his plane ticket, I covered all the other expenses. We rented a convertible, stayed offsite, hooked up with some fraternity mates of his who were working the DCP, and just generally had a great time. I went to Walt Disney World twice more in the Nineties, in 1997 and 1999.

Then, I did not get a chance to get back to Walt Disney World until 2008, when my parents decided to treat my older brother's family (3 kids) to a trip to Walt Disney World. We stayed at two units in a nearby timeshare, and we had fun! My parents went back to Florida on two-week trips in the winters of 2009 and 2010, and the second week was at a timeshare in Kissimmee, so I flew down for the second week, and I did my own thing (theme parks) while they were visiting with friends who had retired to Florida.

In 2013, it was my parents' 50th wedding anniversary, so they paid for my two brothers' families, and myself, to accompany them to Walt Disney World for a week in July. We had a blast, and I thought that was it for me for a while, but in November of that year I realized that I had a week of vacation to use up, so I figured, what better place to go than Walt Disney World? You can read about that trip below.

Which brings us to the present... I got an e-mail from my boss reminding me that if I did not use my remaining week of vacation by the end of the year, I would lose it. First, I thought I would spend a quiet week relaxing at home, then I was talking with my father and he suggested, "Do you want to go to a timeshare somewhere? You could use my points." He owns three weeks, so he has plenty of points. First thing, I thought of Disney. But first I had to put in for a week off. I knew which week I wanted, and it was the second week of December, the same week I went last year. The only thing was, my boss was off for a week, so after I put in the request, I had to bite my nails for 7 days waiting for his decision. After only a minimum of begging, he gave his approval.

Within 2 hours of getting home from work yesterday, I had the resort, flight, park ticket, Memory Maker, and a Candlelight Processional dining package (Biergarten) arranged.

When: December 6-13
Where: Vacation Village at Parkway (on I-192 just east of I-4)
Who: Me, solo
Why: Why not???

I have learned some important things from previous trips, and they will inform some decisions I have made about this trip:

1. I will be taking greater advantage of Photopass photographers and ride photos to get full advantage of my Memory Maker purchase. On my December 2013 trip, I got a number of character photos, and some ride photos, but not really too many photos in front of landmarks. In the end, I only got about 100 pictures all trip, which works out to over a dollar a picture!

2. In the past, I would tend to cut my day in the park short as soon as the battery in my camera started dying - usually after several sessions of adjusting the zoom or using the flash. This time, I have ordered two spare batteries from Amazon (I already had a charger) so that I can charge one while I'm at the park, have a charged spare with me, and charge a battery overnight so I have two fully charged batteries to start the next day.

3. I will make more attempts to enjoy the theming, and take as many pictures as possible of "everyday" things at the parks for future enjoyment. For example, I know of one person on the DIS who takes pictures of every garbage can they see in the parks. I think I'll also take pictures with the intention of having "where is this" contests within my trip report.

4. The beauty of flying solo, is that I can easily adjust my touring style, going "commando", or taking it slow and relaxed, depending on my current mood. I will definitely strive to make rope-drop each day, but with the advent of FP+, I will not need to do the "Rope drop shuffle" for Soarin' at EPCOT, for instance. I think I will continue my "Disney Transportation Nerd" tendencies as shown in my December 2013 trip report, where I ride and document my travels on all-or-any Disney transportation, including the monorail, the riverboat, and I will make an effort to try to ride the Main Street vehicles, if at all possible.

I will be traveling out of Newark Airport on Saturday morning, December 6th. I will be using that day as a "get acclimated" day. I plan to, after I pick up my rental car and drive to my resort (The Village at Parkway), to go shopping for food essentials, and relax by the pool, then go out for a bite to eat. Sunday is soon enough to start going to the parks commando-style.

December 7: Animal Kingdom
December 8: Disney's Hollywood Studios (I still want to call it MGM!)
December 9: Magic Kingdom - also touring monorail hotels
December 10: EPCOT day 1 - Mostly Future World with a Candlelight Processional Dinner Package thrown in
December 11: EPCOT day 2 - concentrating on World Showcase - Doing all those things I never got to do in the past, including La Cava and getting Schoolbread at Norway!
December 12: Relaxing day - stop at Downtown Disney to buy souvenirs for family members

At this stage, I do not feel the need to be more specific in my park plans than that.

I just realized I've never posted the obligatory "Favorites" in any of my TR or PTR, so I thought I'd correct that oversight:

Favorite Disney movies: Herbie, Pete's Dragon, (Love those live action 70's movies!) Fantasia, Emperor's New Groove
Favorite Disney characters: Cheshire Cat (animated version), Pluto, Donald Duck
Favorite rides: Big Thunder Mountain, WEDWAY PeopleMover, Tower of Terror
Favorite non-rides: Harambe Village theming, Mickey's Philharmagic

Hi PrincePluto :wave2:

I read your last trip report. It's great that you're going back to DW again this year. Enjoy! :goodvibes

Well, 25 days out, I received my ticket in the mail. I went to make my FP+ choices for my Magic Kingdom day, and there were NO FP+ left for Seven Dwarves Mine Train! Grrrr! I just hope the standby line isn't too long. I was also surprised that it did not let me select Kali River Rapids as a FP+ as I wouldn't have thought that would be super popular in December...

Also, when did they decide Maelstrom was no longer a FP attraction?

I have been looking at my posts, and I cannot see the bottom portion of my ticker, where it says how many days are left till my trip. It should say the number of days between now and December 6. For instance, as I post this, November 16, it should say 20 days. Can a few of the people who read this post please respond about whether you can see the "days left" portion of my ticker? Thanks!

I was just checking out the drinks prices for Dawa Bar at Animal Kingdom on Allears.net, and it seems that all the specialty cocktails now come in "African mask tumblers" with an average price of $16.00! Does anyone who has been to Dawa Bar recently, know if there is the option of getting the drink in an ordinary cup, for a lower price? I was there in December 2013, and recall the average price of these drinks was $8 or $9. I have no desire to be carrying around a "souvenir tumbler" in the park, as I believe in traveling light, with nothing that cannot fit in my pants pockets... I even fold up my map/program and keep it in my pocket when not actually consulting it.

Edited on 12/28 - While I was at Animal Kingdom, I asked the price of the drinks without the souvenir tumbler, and they are $10 without the tumbler. Well, that is an improvement.

No, your ticker is cut off.

So, 11 days out, and the excitement level is building! :hyper: I have my plane, accomodations, car rental, park tickets and FP+, and limo service arrangements completed. I have received my spare camera batteries in the mail, made sure they're fully charged, and that they fit into my camera! (It would be a disaster if I got to Florida, and discovered that they were no good, or worse, were incompatible!) I also located my pin lanyard with all my trading pins on it. I am gradually starting to pack my carry-on over the next couple of days (the luggage, with the clothing, etc., can wait a little longer...)

Any ideas of holiday "must-do's" that I haven't thought of? I do not plan to do the MK party, and I have already signed up for a candlelight processional dinner package at EPCOT, and I also plan to visit all the monorail hotels to see their decorations.

I am back from my trip, and have started my Trip Report, which is the fourth link in my signature.

Thanks!
