Our number one apprehension about DVC since becoming members in September was being able to make reservations for specific dates. I have to say, I was either very wrong for worrying or we've been extremely lucky. I was just able to book both Thanksgiving and Christmas week 2008. Thank you to everyone here for your wonderful tips and tricks! You all are the best!:thumbsup2

That's great to hear! Were you able to get your first choice in resort? Or were the dates more important to you and you took whatever resort was available? It's nice that you live so close to WDW and can have flexibility if you need to (i.e. no flight worries, just get in the car and go). That will work to your advantage in the future, I'm sure.

Congratulations on your easy booking experience!

Now, I'm jealous - Thanksgiving and Christmas!:cloud9:

Enjoy your Holidays at the World!!

For home resorts, I guess the hard things to book are GV's, or BC, Concierge, or SV or Boardwalk view during the holidays. I don't expect all of the other things to "sell out" during the early part of the 11th month booking time. Well, maybe VWL, so I "see" why you may have been a bit concerned!

I'm glad you got what you wanted!!! We have decided to try for New Years Eve '08. I'm going to try for studio at the BWV, and don't look forward to trying to get through to MS this upcoming week.

I'm happy to report that I was able to reserve VWL 2 bedroom Dec 15-18 with no problem (not even a wait on phone). I also was able to reserve a BWV Grandvilla for Dec 18-22. Whew, I was afraid that if I wasn't the first caller of each morning I might not get a res, especially for the Grand Villas.
Fortunately, (or unfortunately), I just got up at 5:40 PST and dialed right at 5:59 Am PST day by day. Since I am a teacher, I'm glad that I'm not on east coast time. I'm not sad that week of my life is over!
Looking forward to December!

Deb

We got lucky for Thanksgiving week. I thought it was going to be all booked up.

My personal tolerance threshold is at the "day by day booking" thing. If I ever have to resort to that, my DVC ownership days will be numbered. I would make an exception for a highly specific room during busy times, like a GV, or Boardwalkview or something. But for my normal trips, day by day, no way.

For example, I recently booked a 9 day stay in December. I purposely watied until my checkout date before calling to book a 2BR. IF I had not been able to book this trip, I likely would thinking very hard if I want to be an owner any longer.

I have to say, booking our June trip to VB was the first time we have had any problem at all. My brother wanted a 2-bdrm or atleast a 1-bdrm, and niether were available at 7 months out. He paniced that we would have to scrap the plans when I suggested getting 2 OVIRs. This we were able to get without a problem. He says he's gonna miss the in unit laundry, but I pointed out that we should have some view of the ocean and this was a good trade for him. All's well that ends well....

I have to admit, this day by day thing I'm now reading about scares me. I had no idea it was that hard to get what you want for members!

We just became DVC owners last August and have not had any trouble getting the exact dates we wanted and the exact room we wanted. I was so worried that it would be a nightmare when it came time to plan trips but so far its been easy.

I've never had a problem getting anything I wanted, at 11 months or at 7 months or even at 3 or 4 months (and once at 3 weeks!). I know that there are some busier times of year and more popular room types, but I think the generally sense of "will I get what I want fear" is largely unfounded. ;)

I've been a member for over a year, booked 4 trips(waiting for 2008-09 school schedule to come out) then start planning again. Plus I have a non-DVC timeshare to figure in the combo.

We've worked the waitlist, done day by day(wasn't as bad as I thought, even though it was 11 months for Easter and 7 months for Thanksgiving).

We've stayed at SSR(one of our homes), VWL and BCV

Eagerly awaiting our first trip home to VB for Easter!

It's been very easy, the worse problem I had was a 25 minute hold on a Saturday in December to book 2007 Thanksgiving(one call only).

It's probably not as bad as it sounds. Many people that do it probably don't have to, they just really, really, want a specific limited room type or are calling during a popular time.

I highly doubt most people need to do this for home resort reservations prior to 7 months, but I can see how at 7 months it could be very helpful for popular times / limited room types.

We have been members for 15 years and we have always gotten what we wanted and I swore I would never do the day by day thing, but alas, I succumbed this year. We are taking our grandbabies, along with my daughter and her husband, his parents and our son the first week of Dec., so we needed a Grand Villa. The babies will be almost 3 and are the light of our lives. We are first time grandparents, so we pretty much jump through any kind of hoop to make it happen for them and us.
