It's been a while

It's been a while since I have been on the DisBoards, though just recently I started looking around again and post. We were supposed to stay in the cabins back in July but ended up cancelling. Right now I wish we had not but what are you going to do? Last time at WDW was 2017 but we went to DL in 2018 and 2019.

After after years of boating in a 46ft Sea Ray my parents (retired) have since gotten the RVing bug. Last August they purchased a 2004 39ft Class A diesel pusher (can't remember what make). Used it a few times in New England in the late summer and early fall and then made about a 2 week trip to Williamsburg VA in early December and they loved it. They tow a Jeep behind it. They have now decided to do a 4 week week trip in April starting in the OBX and making their way south. Needless to say I convinced them to stay at FW for 8 nights while they are in FLA. Better yet my 11yo DD and I will be flying down and joining them for most of that time at The Fort.:tigger:

Well after they booked The Fort they started thinking they might stop in at Lazydays while they were down that way. You know, just to look around. That then turned into looking to see what they had on line, you know, just looking. Well they saw one they liked and it just so happened that a friend was going to be a Lazydays having his new RV serviced and he said he would you know, take a look at it for them. After he looked at it he told my dad if he had not just bought a brand new (Tiffin) a couple months prior he would be all over that one. Dad quickly put a deposit down and made airline reservation for last weekend. Well they ended up buying it. It's a 2019 40ft Sportscoach Elite diesel pusher. Had low miles and one previous owner. They actually got to meet the previous owner and his wife as they had just traded this in and were still there after transfering their stuff over to their new RV. Just like them they purchased it last Aug and decided it was time for something else.

They had originally booked a Preferred Site but have since changed to a Premium Meadow site to be closer to the pool etc. After 3 stays in the Cabins at FW this will be my first time in a camping loop. So my question is what Premium Meadows loops do you like and what sites? Are there any loops/sites you would stay away from? I know you can't choose a site in advance but know that you can ask if a specific one is available when you check it etc.

Thanks

I do not care for 1400, the outer loop is not too bad, but the inner loop is pretty tight. And now that there is no campfire going on, really no incentive to stay there.
Having been in 1400 before and then in 1100 and 100, have no real desire to spend the extra money for a Premium Meadow site. Premiums have been good to us, 1100 is still not very far from the pool. :beach:
100 was nice when we had a smaller trailer. Maybe if we downsize to an Aliner like Bama_Ed, :worship: then we could fit in Preferred again.

Jim, you could polish up that story about your dad "just looking" and it would be a hit at future DISMeets. Just repeat the punch line "..... just looking ....." as it progresses.

Seriously, though, if you want walkability for a PM loop it depends on what you want. 600 is the loop across the pond from the Bike Barn and the sites on the pond side have the pretty water view but are mostly full sun no shade (unless you get to either end of the loop but then you lose the water view but gain shade). When the campfire/singalong/movies resume you will have nightly entertainment to hear in the distance every night. There is the footbridge from the campfire area and walkway thru 600 to the main road Fort Wilderness Trail which would be very convenient.

We camped in 900 when we got our first popup and it's still my favorite P/PM loop. It's directly across the road Fort Wilderness Trail from the Meadow Trading Post and is a relatively small loop in a circle (32 sites) so even if you're in the back it's a short walk out. There is a bus stop right there and a Comfort Station at the entrance of the loop too. Of course the pool is just on the other side of the Meadow TP. The whole loop is mostly shaded. Personally I like the sites just inside the loop to the right (one way road) on the outside (site numbers 901-903) but be aware they back up to the main road.

I use this website to see the loop layouts and site photos/stats: https://wildernessprincess.net/loop-site-details/

There are also lots of YT videos of the loops in the PM category to watch.

Like PaHunter I'm not a fan of 1400 (but it has its fans since it is just out the door from a part of 1400 to the campfire area). 800 is a BIG loop and if you are back in the far corner it's a long walk to the pool. 1000-1300 are good but not as convenient as 900 to the TP and pool area (part of 1000 is, though, the low number sites).

Glad to hear you will get your folks to the Fort with your DD. Those memories will remain with her.

PS -

100 was nice when we had a smaller trailer. Maybe if we downsize to an Aliner like Bama_Ed, :worship: then we could fit in Preferred again.

PaHunter, your dog Reba would feel too confined in an Aliner with you and Mrs. PaHunter. Reba says keep the 5er. :drive:

PPS - I met @Jimsig back on his 2017 visit. It was in October IIRC and I was there with my dad to do Halloween. We had gotten to the Fort early from Lake Louisa, got our Disney golf cart at 7am, and were cruising the loops waiting for our campsite in 100 to get cleaned off. Nice fella he is.

900 my top choice.

1400 is rock bottom...do some digging, then dynamite. Hire a mining crew to get you about the depth of your average salt mine and about 20 foot further down you'll find 1400.

Seriously, good to hear from you again.

I liked 800, but I don't think it was a Meadow Premium then? Dec. 2018, and May 2019. I always get a Premium site, but it really doesn't matter to me what loop it's in.

I'll echo Ed's (and Michael's) thoughts. I was in the 600 loop 2 years ago and really liked it. 800 is also a favorite. And I'm on the "not a fan of 1400 loop" band wagon. It was the first loop we ever stayed in, so it should hold some sentimental value, but not really.
