Ok so two weird things happened to me this week, both DISboards related.

First look at my Avatar. I have had that "I Love Jake Ryan" avatar for a few years now. I made it for my own personal use HERE on the Disboards. Anyway, while hanging out on the Weight Watchers Boards (which are terrible compared to the Disboards) I noticed a VERY FAMILIAR AVATAR. Some lady is over there using MY AVATAR!

Now I'm not talking the WW Thread over on the WISH forum here on the Dis, I'm talking the boards run by the WW corporation. Weird right?

Incident Number Two:

There is this really cool car that drives around my town. Its a white Kia Soul, that has been all tricked out Disney style. The car is covered in Mickey head balloons, like the Monorails were during the last celebration. At the bottom of the windows, it is made to look like the Disney characters are peeking of the windows. You can see the tops of their heads and there eyes. And written on the car in Disney font in LIME GREEN is "It all started with a Mouse".

When I pull into Publix tonight, the car is there, and its owner is putting groceries in her trunk. I get out of my car, with my Mickey window cling, wearing Mickey nursing scrubs and a my work ID haning from a Mickey Lanyard. I say to the woman, "Do you go on the DISboards?"

She looked annoyed. "No" she said "I've heard of them, but I'm not interested".

"Well" I add, "We have a lot of fun over there, we all share the same love of Disney"

I told her that I would love to post a picture of her car over here, and she told me that she'd prefer I didn't. I can respect that. But what I am having a hard time explaining in just words is the look on her face through the whole conversation. Like she was mortified that I looked at her car. AHEM...I'm not the one with the care decorated like a MONORAIL!!!!

Could it be that the car was a prize she won, and she can't change it until a certain time passes? Not that I'm aware of such a prize, but she may have won the car, but not share quite the same Disney enthusiasm as we do...

Just random guessing...

Or maybe it's not her car. Maybe her husband is the Disney freak, and she has to tolerate it... :confused3

That is weird - especially the lady with the car. That reminds me of the people I and others have encountered in the parks who wear obvious DIS stuff (e.g. the lime green Mickey heads on which they've written things like "DIS", the old keyrings, DIS shirts) and then act like you are some kind of creep if you go up to introduce yourself and start a conversation :confused3. I thought that's what identifying items were for .

But I guess like has been said, there could be the slim chance that she won the car or that it's her husband's. Or that she had just had a death in the family or something.

That may be it, because this seemed like a person who didn't want to draw attention to herself, driving a MAJOR attention getting car. And if this is the case, I can relate. DH has a 1971 Maverick Grabber that he has restored. It is beautiful. When we drive down the road people stare and give DH the "Thumbs up". DH loves the attention...meanwhile, I slouch down in the seat mortified.

Maybe she just doesn't like to discuss things with total strangers.

Some people like chatting it up with total strangers, some don't. The chatter-uppers can usually spot the "I don't want to talk to you" people, though, so that likely was not the case with the OP.

Anyway, I have a good friend who is VERY into Mickey and loves the parks, goes all the time, has some Mickey stuff on and in the car...never comes on the DIS. I even set her up with an account; she never used it. Message boards are not her thing.

She does chat up strangers, though, and I don't. :)

I might be able to solve the avatar issue.

If you Google "I heart Jake Ryan" or "I love Jake Ryan", that avatar pops up. I suspect that lady is not the only one who has access to it.

Ok thats weird. I spent a weekend with photo shop making my avatar about 4 years ago. Hmmm....It looks like a t-shirt designer had the same idea.

So... I just googled "who is Jake Ryan".
I saw Sixteen Candles. Liked the movie. But not enough to remember Jake Ryan!

Oh he was my high school dream guy.

Of course in real life he would have stayed with the popular girl.

Hmmmmm.....odd. The car lady....like other posters said, maybe she doesn't like sharing or talking to strangers. Maybe she had her car "wrapped" for advertising/get her car paid for. One of my friends signed up to a program where she agrees to drive around with that special cling on her car with ads for businesses and in return they pay most or all of her car payment for as long as she has it on there. A couple years ago her car looked like a huge Red Bull can and she was always irritated because people were always asking her if she was selling it or telling her how much they liked/hated Red Bull. :confused3

The car lady story reminds me of Modern Family this week. Remember how annoyed Clair got at all the attention her car was getting. :rotfl:

My parents car is an "Ohio State" car. My dad's doing. People are always stopping and commenting on it. My mom just says "oh it's my husband's car" if someone gets too chatty. She hates though when we are driving in it and someone will honk at us and make an unseemly hand gesture. Always turns out their car has Michigan plates. :teeth:

hi gang. some people where i live rent their cars out for advertisement. www coms, beverage drinks and the like. could be thats what shes doing

No this is a personal I Love Disney design. Its not polished enough to have come from Disney.

Yeah, I doubt Disney would participate in that type of advertising. If they did, just think how many people would do it for something free . Disney might end up losing money. Besides, Disney doesn't have to pay people to do it; they already get free advertisement from all of us who have antenna toppers, bumper stickers, etc.

Even if someone does have advertising on their car from Red Bull or whatever for some kind of pay, it's still their own fault and they should expect attention and comments. It comes with the territory.
