Still no memory stick. I can email your DH a pdf of a prepaid label if he is still here. Getting very tired going to bed soon!

Alison - YES! If there is no memory stick. We have until tomorrow to get this done. I'll let DH know and see what email he wants to use.

DH looks like he's gone to sleep. I'm going to PM you his work email now. I hope he picks up my email in the morning; but I will SMS him when I wake up. I don't want to wake him up in case he has left his phone on....he hasn't been sleeping well at all over in San Francisco.

Oh What a double edged sword! Given the hours you're working, is this something you want to keep working on?

Is it worth working for a company who doesnt care about you? It sounds like they dont care how long you have to work as long as you get the job done. That sounds terrible. At least this will be a great work reference.

Look this is a tough industry. There is no denying it. And it's gotten worse with the gfc. Before companies could just keep people on until they got something new. Now so much can get put on hold with no idea when things will restart. So companies will just say look...we are losing money so we are going to restructure.

In total there were 4 redundancies in this office. And there have been others in other offices. Of those our team has lost three. Then there is another one who resigned and finishes in October...

We had an office meeting and they are saying it is a restructure...
The redundancies I'm fine with. But the resignation....I'm really going to miss my coworker :sad2:

Do I want to be here....we are about to move into a new stage. So after we are over this hump maybe it will settle down?

I'm just really conflicted and confused at this point...:confused3

You're there on contract. You don't WORK for them....you only work there. Office politics - play them but don't get emotionally invested in it.

Your co-worker? If you've become friends, then you'll catch up outside of the work place. Hang on to those sorts of friends. It is a small industry....

In companies that restructure, there is never really a settle down period after the hump. there is usually only just the next hump.

BUT you're there on contract. See out the contract, if they offer you a new contract, stay. In the meantime, LOOK for permanent employment.

Where is that co-worker going? :rolleyes1

I am on a contract but not through an agency. It's a bizarre feeling really in that it is in all ways permanent full time....except there is an end date. Sick leave, annual leave...all that is there. Super etc...
I mean as shown today.....permanent isn't always permanent. It just costs them a bit more to fire you

Anyway...
When I say hump I don't actually mean the redundancies. I mean this project. We move to the next stage next week. Big submission on Monday. Then it's the next stage....we nut through all the details that need resolving...
It's just a double hump now.

I always appreciate you as a sounding board and feedback/advice PIO  It's such a cut throat world and while you're still finding your feet you feel very insecure. I will see what's floating around on seek etc etc. All the usual places.
While you still aren't sure on your future placing you have a history and proven track record to show what you can do. :thumbsup2

As for my co worker. She isn't sure. She just wants to move on...to somewhere she is going up. She might return to Germany or stay in Sydney. Her mum still lives there.
I'm not sure we will stay in touch as we aren't close friends. It was just she was really good at her job and is kind of the glue of the team. :sad1:
Professionally I will try and get a contact for her for the future. I truly hope she finds a happy new home. It's interesting her background. And although not born there, nor having a German accent, I think she lived there long enough while growing up its still her 'home' and is homesick for it.

The other 3 while team members....and one was a chef....I can actually see 'justification' and while I'm disappointed in the way it has happened I hope they all find a new home elsewhere. It will take time to adjust the team and pick up the pieces they were working on. But once the glue is gone it will be hard.

Ah well. The weekend is here. Sleeping and laundry are the plan......

When you work on contract and on projects, that's the way it always goes. The only thing that is permanent is that things will ALWAYS change. And even if you think that the team works well together, at the end of the project, you pretty much go separate ways.

Don't let the insecurity show....but keep a professional attitude.

When I was younger, an older colleague once told me something that I've remembered through all these years.

"When you're young and finding your feet, you'll find that your feet will come with experience. But one thing you'll need more now....grow a thicker skin."

In business, don't take things too personally. Everyone is a Chinese mushroom head where time and money is concerned.

Yes I do need a thicker skin.....for all aspects in life. But that is a work in progress.

I've got the shell...but if you crack it it shatters at the moment....

But yes....it's a work in progress...

Did the boy partake in his activity?

Hope your DH has managed to sleep tonight. That's no good him not getting rest.

Just about home. :yay:

No. The boy decided he wanted to stay home. I tried...but in the end, I didn't feel like being out till late either.

DH has been getting about 3 hours sleep per night. Another reason why he likes us travelling with him. At least he sleeps better when we're around and particularly when we're in the same unfamiliar bed together.

We skyped yesterday. He looked tired and there were dark rings under his eyes.

Enjoy being home! Might catch you at the weekend.

You too.

This time tomorrow night, DH will be on a plane on his way home! :cool1:

I hope I can find a train schedule as good as the one I had before. Hope everybodys day was good.

I would like to make a Norcal to Socal trip someday by train. But when I check the schedules it doesn't look tempting coming from SLC. Leave late arrive too late because I'd like to see the coast out the window.

At least I'm last.

If photobucket stops fighting with me I'll have some more car show photos :)

Hope DH has a nice flight back. Should I ask what airline? :rolleyes1

:thumbsup2

Where were these taken?

I also had a look at When You Wish as well. Great job on the video, sound and editing!
I also loved the videos. Great sound!

Unfortunately marching bands aren't around much in Australia. I might have tried a brass instrument if they did! :lmao:
I always love when Disney parades start with them.

Our Concert bands in schools are quite 'orchestral' as they don't march. I was a percussionist (xylophone, glock, marimba etc...)

ETA - I know this is a Swing band...not marching...just sayin this kind of sound isn't around as much .... from what I've seen at least. Smaller Jazz bands are popular though.

They are actually more common than you know. I didn't know this either until about a month ago......but there are 4 local swing bands within 10 km of me. 4 :scared1:

This particular one does the hotels and pubs scene, setting the scene from the days of radio transmissions. :thumbsup2

Air New Zealand. :)
Interesting. So do they fly direct now? I stopped looking at their routes many years ago. But I do know I've seen surprised Americans get off the UA flight to Sydney when they realise their flight to New Zealand is on this mysterious airline called "Air NuZeeland"??
Code share folks....code share.... :lmao:
