The official Disney site suggests that instead of taking my 2 and 4yo on a bright, cheerful and generally feel-good boat ride through many nations (which I'll agree may be annoying to adults) that I take them to watch pirates fight, drink, loot and degrade women. OK. I'll take that into consideration.

And when they close Pooh for rehab, I'll be sure to send them in the Haunted Mansion instead.

LOL! I'm not really sure I take POTC that seriously but that is a rather odd suggestion for a substitute ride!

I saw that, I thought it was strange too. I thought a good substitute would be the Mexico ride at Epcot, they have the same type of singing dolls. They probably didn't choose that because it's not in the same park.

"Degrade women?"
Last time I was on that ride, the women were chasing the pirates around.

LOL! I couldn't imagine taking DD2 on POTC! But hey, she might like it, if they are suggesting it instead of IASW! HAHA!

I agree that it's kinda odd to suggest POC in place of IASM. But my boys (3.5 and 17 months last trip) loved both of those rides. :teeth:

My guess would be they are suggesting it because 1)similar style ride system (although PotC DROPS) and 2) to disperse the crowd from the IASW area..

I think they suggested POTC because it too is a boat ride, but the similarities stop there :)

It really is not anywhere near as bad as that sounds. In fact this is my all time favorite ride. My DS and DD LOVE it and have been on it since they were 5 mo old. My son is now 7 and my dtr 3 and still it is one of their favorites. It is very lighthearted and fun.

And the women do now chase the pirates - with a broomstick if I am remembering correctly.

JMHO.

disney-

"it's a small world" will not be operating May 2, 2004 until Spring 2005, however we recommend Pirates of the Caribbean as an alternative during this time.

POTC is in no way, shape or form a subsitute for iasmw.

Disney should retract this statement.

We were there last year when Pooh was closed and I think they sent you to Snow White....We were bummed we're not Pooh people but the ride is cute..Is small world really down as of now I thought it wasn't until June????

Yes, Small World is down. They want to reopen it earlier than originally planned next year.

BOO...I just wanted to ride to torment a coworker via cellphone with the song...I'm sure that starting next MOnday he'll start signing it to me at work..he got such a kick out of picking up the phone and hearing nothing but the song last year...hmm maybe pirates this year...

Snow White's Scary adventure has reopened early hasn't it? I was planning on taking DD2 and DD4 on IASM (even learned the words to the song-doh!) and now it's closed. I was planning on avoiding SNSA because it is supposed to be too intense for little ones and now it's open. What's a mom to do?

dlstc, we took our DS2 and DS4 on SWSA and it wasn't too intense for them. They liked the ride and want to go on it again when we go back, hopefully next year. They also like POTC.

I love IASW and drag DH to it frequently (*sniff**sniff*--I'll really miss it while it's gone).

Re: Pirates of the Carribean and Snow White, Snow White stirkes me as much scarier than POTC.

I agree that the Mexico ride in Epcot (one of my all time favorite rides)is very similar to Small World, but I suspect most parents aren't going to drag their kids over to Epcot for that one ride--I would think Epcot in general is pretty dull for younger kids.

Our very first ride EVER at Disney World as Snow Whites Scarey Adventures. Our then 3 year old was scarred for life!!!

Well that's an exaggeration. But she was really scared! We felt terrible. It was just the beginning of a lot of scarey stuff (for her) at Disney World that trip. Uninformed newbies, you know. It was 1996 and there was no such thing as the DIS.

Eight years (and 3 trips) later, thankfully she has recovered and is really crossing her fingers (me too ;) ) that we will be going again this summer. :)
