It's a mess up here in NJ

I live 20 miles from NYC and the effects are felt out here. All the interstates except one were closed. My deliveries at work were cancelled until further notice. Yesterday, my friend's fiancee had to walk across the 59th street bridge to Queens. She said everyone was walking across the bridge with glazed over looks and nobody was talking. I swear when I saw the second building collapse, it looked like that scene from Independence Day for real. As I write this at 5 am Wednesday morning, all access to Manhatten(bridges and tunnels) are all shut down. Train and bus service is virtually nonexistant. You can leave NYC, but can't get in. This isn't going to be back to normal for a long time...

I've only recently moved to Connecticut from Manhattan and I still have an apartment in the City.

I'm wondering when Manhattan will be "open for business" again, so I can check it out. Also, my passport is sitting in the Nepalese consulate on Second Avenue waiting for a visa and I'm wondering when I'll be able to pick it up. It's so weird to have New York shut down.

I hope they get it open today. Any further delay will send the wrong message, I'm afraid.

Same here on Long Island. My brother-n-law was in in the first building on the 48th floor but got out safely as we as and a group of my husband's former co-workers/friends. it was very scary the first hour or so until he was able to call us and let us know he got out all right. Almost everyone I know is directly related to or knows someone who was in the building or very close by. We are all saying our prayers. The wait to give blood around here is several hours at least. I will be there this afternoon it is unbelivevable. Many small local stores and merchants closed early yesterday. Don't know what will happen today. Still kind of numb. My thoughts and prayers are with the famiies not as lucky as ours.

Glad to hear that all of you are ok, this horrible, horrible incident has certainly has touched us all, even those of us who are far away.
I thank God that all of you are ok & continue to keep those who were less fortunate in my thoughts.
I saw some one else end their post this way & it brought tears to my eyes. I will repeat it here:

God Bless America
