It's a Great Big Beautiful Trip Report

Aw, stop! And right back at you - you write beautiful descriptions. Great update -- I especially love your itineraries; you really know how to both pack it in, and relax. I'm so psyched that we'll be seeing each other, along with several notable others, in Sept.!

:goodvibes

I thought I was looking forward to my September Disney vacation before, but now that it includes sharing the fun with friends and a triumphal return to the Adventurer's Club together I am feeling like the best vacation planner that ever lived!

What a wonderful day! I love Boma for both breakfast and dinner. I always get their great OJ and probably fill up on that with 3-4 glasses ... but of course you have to leave room for all the terrific food.

Your Wishes/EMP is something we try to do on every trip ... it is just so relaxing. Watching from Poly is my favorite but we've also done Narcoosee's and the Contempory, too.

I hadn't heard about Yeehaw Bob but he sounds like fun!

I've never had Boma's breakfast, but reviews are leading me to think it's time to put that on the list for next time.

Yeehaw Bob is a fantastic entertainer. He makes a really lively connection with his audience!

Day 8 - TSM bests Le Cellier in Disney Contest!

According to my original plan made months ago, today was to be my rope drop Epcot day, with lunch at Le Cellier set for noon. I figured by then I would have conquered Future World and need to take a break before moving on to WS. Today the true depths of my TSM depravity were revealed. I wanted to go back to the Studios for an early morning round of TSM to get in as many rides as possible during this advantageously slow time and this looked like the best morning to fit in this activity. I also found the idea of Epcot a little daunting in the heat. It seemed like a looooooong walk through highly cemented unshaded areas to get anywhere, and the Studios seemed more manageable. Once I had showered and had some coffee I decided to commit to the Studios and canceled my Le Cellier reservation. The CM I talked to could hardly believe it. I hope I made some weary travelers in search of lunch extremely happy.

After strawberries, watermelon and coffee I walked out to the beach to enjoy the early morning light. The Tokelau longhouse was a sweet spot. The stairwell end on the lagoon side afforded great views of the Magic Kingdom the moment I stepped outside and the walk to anywhere down the beach screamed “I’m on vacation!!!!”

The Polynesian God of laughing until you pee in your pants.

As I walked to my car the monorail was coursing around the beam, carrying happy dreamers to character breakfasts and the opening of the MK day. I walked in from the HS parking lot in time for a short wait at the turnstiles and then a hold at the rope for the Streetmospherists to open the park.

DSC_0347.jpg

Then it was the as fast as we all could walk without actually not being walking anymore trip to TSM. I secured a FP first then walked through the standby line. I took more pictures in the happy childhood setting, had more fun shooting and laughing and twirling from game to game to the cheerful music and ended up being able to ride four or five times before the line got unmanageable. Once I was sent in through the accessible queue so got to see another perspective on the set.

I picked up another FP and then headed out into the rest of the park.

Minnie and Daisy were having a meet and greet by the hat and I joined the short line for a photo with two of the leading ladies of the World. I had on the shirt I had made with the cutest picture in the world of me and Minnie from another trip and Minnie made a huge fuss about it. Then the photographers got into it and had us recreate the pose on the shirt. I suppose now I’ll have to get another shirt made with this photo of us with the original photo and then find Minnie on the next trip, eventually layering us into infinity and beyond! Wait, that’s somebody else’s movie...

After the love your outfit fest with Minnie and Daisy I walked past the Chinese Theater and the Commissary toward Star Tours and the Muppets. As I passed the Sci Fi Dine In I realized I was more than ready for lunch.

DSC_0445.jpg

I had a couple of truly lousy lunches here before giving up on it in the distant past, so I hadn’t been here for some years. I had heard there were some menu updates so I stopped and checked it out, thinking it might be time to give it another chance. They could seat me right away, and there was a pasta dish that caught my eye, so I waited for a few minutes in the lobby and then followed my roller skating host to my car. I wish we could all have roller skates here too! I would even eat bad food if I got to skate.

DSC_0451.jpg

I was seated near the back of the theater in the back of a car which had a family already launched on lunch in the front seats. I was already committed to the pasta dish, but was toying with the idea of some onion rings. The serving seemed a little expensive so I asked my server how large of a side it was. I decided to indulge in a chocolate milkshake instead of the rings so I was surprised when not long after I ordered my server came by with a little complimentary mini order complete with blue cheese dipping sauce. Glorious, wonderful CM! They were fine onion rings, but I must confess I’ve never met an onion ring I didn’t like. I enjoyed the kitschy drive-in setting with the candy colored cars and movie posters on the faux fence around the perimeter. The shorts, cartoons and previews took us all on a tour of B-movies and the fifties view of the future as I nibbled my rings and sipped my shake.

My pasta arrived and was leaps and bounds better than anything I’d had here before. There are no pictures as there wasn’t enough light to do much without the flash and I didn’t want to impose a food porn shoot on the other people in my car. The bow tie pasta with shrimp, feta cheese, artichoke hearts, spinach, capers and sun dried tomatoes was flavorful with a nice tang from the capers which complemented the sharp cheese and sweet tomatoes. I watched the whole run of the show and then headed back out into the heat of the day. Since I was right at Star Tours I caught a star speeder for some intergalactic adventures and then crossed back over the park to use my FP for TSM. It was hot hot hot by then so I headed out of the park, stopping for some photopass fun on the way, then headed out to pick up a few things at the drugstore.

DTD was on my way back to the resort, so I stopped to stock up on rice crispy treats and pretzel rods all glammed up with chocolate, M&Ms and Peanut Butter Cups. The pretzel rods are my new favorite treat and I planned to have enough to enjoy them little by little until my December trip rolled around.

I walked through the World of Disney and took time to look up and appreciate the character set pieces, and cruised the big Pin Traders shop despite Donald’s intimidating stance.

I drove my chocolate treasures back to the hotel and walked through the gardens back to my room. It was pool time again!

DSC_0490.jpg

I packed a beach bag, helped myself to generous servings of SPF 60 sunscreen and headed off to the beach and pool. I called about the bounceback offer for free dining from my lounge chair. Free dining doesn’t make as much sense for me as for some people since I eat a lot of 2 table service dinners but at least I had some numbers to consider. I had a few delightful hours sunning, swimming, and floating blissfully on some swim noodles thoughtfully provided by the lifeguards. The arrival of a sudden downpour was good cause to run into Captain Cook’s and order a snack. I got the kid’s meal grilled cheese with pudding, carrots and water. By the time my food was ready, the rain had stopped as suddenly as it had started so I went back out to the beach and enjoyed my little meal al fresco. The grilled cheese was plain old grilled cheese which was exactly what I wanted. The pudding was chocolately and cool but the carrots had seen better days. I wanted to keep the Mickey head meal container but I made myself throw it away. I took one final swim and slide down the big slide as time rolled around to go get ready for my final MNSSHP.

After reading your latest update, I am looking forward to my solo trip even more! I love that you can change your plans on a whim and not have to worry about anyone else. It sounds blissful. :cloud9:

Good for you getting so many rides on TSM! It's such a great ride.

Your afternoon pool time sounds so relaxing. :thumbsup2

Yeah for TSM!! What a great and awesome ride!

Just wondering (if you remember), when you got there at rope drop and got your FP, what was the time to come back? It sounds like it was a lot later in the day (or did you get multiple FP).

My friends just came back from Disney and never got on TSM. They didn't listen to me about getting there at rope drop so only arrived around 10-11am and said the FP were either gone or way too late in the day.

I think I now need to add Goofy's Candy Company to my list of new places to try and maybe even the Sci Fi restaurant. I, too, hadn't heard good reviews but my DH is a sci-fi nut -- the badder the movie the better for him (Plan 9 from Outer Space!)

Your pool day like PP said, sounds delightful!

I love your pictures today! Especially the remake of the famous Minnie picture!

You will enjoy your solo time! It is ultimately relaxing to be able to follow your own bliss. I know you'll miss Marc, but you can be planning the cool things you'll do together when you go back.

In September, the first FPs out of the machines were good for about 9:40-10:40. The second round would be as early as 11:40 and as late as 1 or 2 for a start time depending on how many people were there that day. After 12 the FP were all for times after 5 and sometimes later in the evening.
In December when the crowds were a little thicker the FPs would run out by late morning or early afternoon and the return times would get late quickly. There were sometimes lines 10 or 12 deep at each FP machine.
I was shocked to find that Disneyland's TSMM doesn't have FP!!!!! There is a single rider line, but they ask the permission of the person the single rider will be going with to let someone ride in their car and if the primary rider says no they get to go alone. Crazy!
I have a great story about DL and CalDisneyFamily and TSMM for my DL report.

Goofy's Candy Company is one of my favorite things. If you have the dining plan, the custom treats are one snack credit - an awesome deal.

Sci Fi definitely gets very mixed reviews. I was happy to have a good food experience, but the scene and the films are worth one visit. Lunch seems like a better bet than dinner. It's also a great, cool respite if the weather is hot.

I love your pictures today! Especially the remake of the famous Minnie picture!

I've learned a lot about posing from Minnie :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 !

Great update! I could totally go for a crispy Mickey treat right now, chocolate and more chocolate with some peanuts...Mmmm!

Hi Lease! You and Code were the ones who told me about these delectable creations being one snack credit - I still can't believe it doesn't cost more when you add more things! I alternate between wishing I had a Goofy's Candy Co. in my neighborhood and realizing that it's probably just as well that I have to go 3000 miles to get there.

Yeah but it sure would be convenient for those random pregnancy cravings. Do you think Code would mind a quick jaunt to WDW for me?

He is such a devoted husband, I'm sure he would do that for you! :thumbsup2
I think we can also make a case for early enrichment for the babies. I know you want to expose them to the best things in life as early as possible!
Oooooh, now I am craving a chocolate coated M&M covered treat.

Missed your Boma review earlier- but saw it just now. Is it just me, or do you think the chefs perfectly planned the color palette of the food?? Take a good look and I see the rich, warm colors perfectly complimenting those of the Lodge! Uncanny- or maybe not.

TSM was not quite open on our last trip, so I"m so looking forward to making it a priority next time around. As usual the Imagineers look like they've done a whiz-bang job and telling the story. From the perspective of your shots you REALLY do look toy-sized. Can't wait!

Thanks for bringing me back to my happy place once again!

TSM is an Imagineering home run. The story, the music, the sets and the ride itself all work together like crazy. It's a happy childhood in a box.

Come to think of it, the Boma food was even complimented by the table linens...

Day 8 - Boo to All of Us

I took the walk from the pool down the beach to my longhouse, admiring the views of the Castle and Space Mountain and hearing the sounds of the ferries, train and Main Street drifting across the water. The sense of being in the center of the magic even while at the resort is one of the my most favorite things about staying here.

I showered and put on fun makeup and slithered into the snake costume again. I had originally been concerned that I would find the costume in the way of taking pictures and riding certain rides but it passed the party test with flying colors, so I was happy to wear it again. My one necessary costume concession was to wear my athletic shoes instead of the cute shoes that actually go with the costume. My feet were too tender to face anything but my ultra supportive lace up ugly shoes, sigh.

Snaked up, I walked through the grounds to the Monorail, enjoying the reactions to my attire along the way. Nobody seemed to be paying attention to my shoes which was encouraging.

Once again there were many costumed families and couples on the Monorail and moving through the turnstiles. The special spooky music and lighting effects and the costumed CMs who were all totally in the party spirit made for a festive entrance. Wristband on and goody bag in hand I headed under the tunnel toward the Pumpkin Headed folk in the square in front of the train station.

It wasn’t dark yet as I made my way down Main Street and turned right for Tomorrowland. Here are two characters I totally missed during the previous two parties.

I love the small galaxy Tomorrowland vibe that this sign implies.

DSC_0719.jpg

Buzz Lightyear was calling for help vanquishing the Evil Emperor Zurg, and Snake Woman of course had to respond to the rescue call.

DSC_0507.jpg

The snake (who goes by “Pandora”) is a much better shot than me and seemed to be instrumental in restoring power and order to the universe. But first she so intimidated the CM who was supposed to close up my vehicle that she had to lower the lap bar for him when he shrieked, jumped back and wouldn’t come near my Space Ranger training vehicle as I rounded the corner into the ride. I rode twice and then it was time for Snaaaakes in Spaaaaace.

DSC_0512-2.jpg

After whipping through the universe, I headed off through the candy stations to Fantasyland, stopping first to ride with Snow White
past scary trees, alligators and through the dwarves’ adorable domicile (I want a pipe organ with animated animal totem pipes!) and right into her happy ending. I lingered for a while by the carousel, in love with the Castle and its ever-changing colors.

I kept going through Fantasyland and wound up in line for Peter Pan. When I got to the loading CM, she wasn’t looking in my direction. When she turned to look at me I moved Pandora ever so slightly in her direction. She screamed and jumped a foot straight up, and then put her hand to her chest and staggered back when she realized it was only a costume. She waved me into my ship and when I arrived back after my flight to Neverland she was telling the people in the line about how Pandora had “snapped at her.” Hee hee.

By the old Skyway port they had set up Cinderella’s coach for picture taking. The Skyway terminus was bathed in orange scary lights and looked like the gateway to Hell. (Is it wrong to say that about something located in the Magic Kingdom?)

Continued in the next post...

Boo to All of Us continued....

When I arrived in Liberty Square it was time for the rushing ride of the Headless Horseman. The dark horse seemed bigger than life and the drama was amplified by the noise of his hooves striking the street as he flew along. As he disappeared across the bridge to the hub I found a comfy curb spot over in Frontierland and waited for the parade to start. Woody and Jack Sparrow were across the street, just hanging out on the porch with the guests.

DSC_0541.jpg

They stayed to watch the parade like regular people, something I’d never seen characters do before. The Halloween music poured out onto the street and the parade arrived, with costumed characters, pirates, denizens of the Haunted Mansion, Country Western music and dancing, villains and then a sweet finish with Goofy, Pluto and chocolate for all.

For the life of me I can’t remember why now, but it had become crucial for me to get a picture with Piglet and Tigger in their Halloween outfits so I crossed the hub to go into Fantasyland to their meet and greet. On the way there I saw all of the dwarves and Snow White walking together past the Teacups - I don’t think I’ve ever seen them all at once before except in a parade. They too were making for a meet and greet and were immediately surrounded by paparazziesque guests while other families rushed for the line. It was a total celebrity sighting experience. I can’t imagine more excitement if it had been the Jonas Brothers or Tom Cruise and his family. After watching the first family get in place for their photo I continued on my way deeper into Fantasyland.

To calm down from all the Snow White excitement I went for a ride with the Pooh crew and survived the flood in the Hundred Acre Wood. The spooky version of the Heffalump and Woozle song played overhead as I left the ride just in time to go meet Piglet and Tigger. I joined the line, chatting with the other guests while we waited for our turns. One mom was reporting that they had been trying and trying to get pictures with Tigger and kept getting to the front of the line just as the characters finished their stint and were replaced by Pooh and Eeyore. They waited anxiously for their hoped for encounter and did make it this time. Tigger does seem to be the Brad Pitt of the Pooh family and in fact made a dashing pirate while Piglet was more adorable than ever as a butterfly. We had a little problem with our photo moment because when Piglet saw me he dashed over to his handler and wouldn’t come back, no matter what we did. He covered his eyes and held on to his handler and refused to move.

image490.jpg

Tigger and I decided to get some shots while we waited for Piglet to calm down.

image498.jpg

image507.jpg

He finally came over but was a little jumpy the whole time.

image526.jpg

The fireworks were coming right up, and I wanted a little snack, so I started back to the hub. I passed by the dance party at Sunny Eclipse’s on the way and stopped in for a minute to see Chip and Dale get their groove totally on. I think they should audition for Dancing with the Stars, if only it weren’t a conflict of interest. I trekked over to the ice cream parlor for a cool treat to eat while waiting for Hallowishes. I got a double of chocolate and mint chip and headed over to the Tomorrowland Terrace and got a lovely seat overlooking the castle. Sitting was almost as great as eating ice cream.

The tables gradually filled up and soon there was a crowd waiting. Just as the fireworks started, a group came up and stood directly behind me. One of them whipped out one of those little disposable cameras and took picture after picture during the entire show. It was hugely distracting, as he left the flash on, and the winding mechanism was ridiculously loud. Here is my fireworks experience: FLASH!!! ZOOKA ZOOKA ZOOKA FLASH!!! ZOOKA ZOOKA ZOOKA FLASH!!! I was bummed out because I had gotten there early to stake out a good spot and found it hard to get immersed in the show with the light and sound effects coming from just behind my head. I did get this photo of a momentary Mickey:

DSC_0604-1.jpg

I went on to the Haunted Mansion, collected more candy, and then went to look for a spot from which to watch the second parade. I was a little shocked when I got back to the hub. It was a madhouse, with people 6 or 7 deep on the sidewalks! I hadn’t seen anything like it this week or even on any other trip. I wondered if summer was like that all the time. I decided to call it quits for the night. I was too tired to fight the crowds and knew that if I left then I would miss the big rush out after the parade.

I walked down the middle of main street, marveling at the crowds lining the streets. I decided to take the little motor launch so went down to the benches by the water and waited in a suddenly peaceful zone.

I was the only one on the boat which was delightful. My captain was the quiet type, so I stretched out on the back bench and silently enjoyed the cool breeze while watching the castle recede and the Grand Floridian grow closer. It was a short wait at the deserted dock and then we cast off for the Polynesian.

I was feeling some anticipatory sadness tonight as tomorrow would be my last full day. I walked down the beach again and tried to concentrate on enjoying being at the resort. I spent some time hanging out with Stacey and her enthusiastic recap as I puttered around my room downloading photos and stretching.

Tomorrow will bring my last early morning breakfast in the MK, and my traditional last night dinner at the California Grill. My plans are loose, just to do whatever I feel like in between the two meals.

I so love the pics of the Boo to You parade. I really want to see those gravediggers, they sound awesome. Um, is it just me or is one of the cowgirls in your photo not very family friendly? Good thing she doesn't have to reach up any higher :scared:

Beautiful pictures as always! It makes me a little sad we decided not to go to MNSSHP this year. There's always next year.....

I know you will have a great time when you do attend the party. Of the hard ticket events I've done it has the most things that set it apart from a regular night. They give you CANDY! And remember, there is a MNSSHP on 9/25, the day after the Adventurer's Club party...

Scary costume but not for what we would consider the usual scary reasons!

Fabulous updates! "Snaaaakes in Spaaaaace" really cracked me up. And it sounds like your costume was so much fun for the CMs -- giving a little Disney magic to them in return! :goodvibes
