It's a Great Big Beautiful Trip Report

So, so beautiful, and so completely peaceful! Wish I was there right now. I love your closeups of the pumpkins. You're going to have so much fun in Sept., I just know it! Yours and girlbombs TR's will be a blast to read this fall.

I'm so glad you're enjoying the pictures!

I just started to chart out the days for September's trip. I noted Touring Plans' projected best days, the arrival dates of DIS friends, the Halloween party nights and Adventurer's party, and started making a list of restaurants and activities. Then I remembered I can't really create the schedule until the park hours are out which is not until June, sigh. I miss the longer planning period possible with the earlier release of park hours. With all the great things that will be happening and the terrific people who will be there I know I'll have the best time ever no matter what else winds up on the schedule.

My DBF is at Disneyland with his daughter right now, and when we talked today he said that when they saw two of the tiniest and therefore cutest baby ducks ever, she said, "they're not baby ducks, they're the most recent cast members!" :goodvibes

I was way behind but I am all caught up now!

Love your empty Main Street pictures. Especially the watch on the scarecrow. :goodvibes

That's the spirit!

She's only seven, but she's totally got the concept!

:woohoo: On the Dream Fastpasses!

Hello, and welcome! It was super fun to meet the Dream Squad and take part in the magic. It was a fantastic promotion and I miss their lovely brand of pixie dust.

Seeing the creative hand of the designers and artists in all the details is one of my favorite things about the World. No matter how much you look or how many times you go, there is always more to see!

Penultimate Day - How many things can I fit in an afternoon?

When I got back to my room, I found a replica of the traditional Polynesian towel canoe complete with paddlers.

I packed up my pool bag, dipped myself in sunscreen and went off to the beach and pool. I had an awesome hammock nap and then swam and zipped down the volcano slide a few more times. After a few hours I developed an inescapable craving for a No Way Jose, so decided to go over to HS and the Beach Club for a quick visit before returning to the MK. I showered and changed and walked out to my car. As I crossed from the resort to the parking lot, the Monorail coursed overhead.

I drove over to the Studios, parked, and took the tram in to the gate. Although it was crowded, I got in a few rides on ToT. Whee! HaHa!

With a big grin on my face I walked back to the tram to my car and drove to the Beach Club. The colors of the buildings at the BC are delectable and look delicious next to the crisp white trim and gingerbread moldings.

There were fantastic big sprays of flowers on top of the seating poufs in the lobby.

I decided to take an immediate seat at the counter at B&C rather than waiting for a table or booth. I was impatient to get to the sundae of my dreams. I not only haven’t stayed on property long enough to want to go home, I’ve never managed to have one too many of the glory that is the No Way Jose. Although I know we’ve been here before, here it is in all its magnificence:

DSC_0012.jpg

It is the king AND queen of sundaes, with its melty gooey goodness of peanut butter lushed up with hot fudge all nestled on chocolate and vanilla ice creams studded with peanut butter and chocolate chips, crowned with whipped cream.

The soda fountain was apparently imported. I was curious about what language “Trink” might be “drink” in, but the only definition I’ve found is “a kind of fishing net.” Perhaps it was an aural interpretation of drink...or perhaps they’d been trinking...

DSC_0013.jpg

Full of sundae delight, I headed back to the Poly, and walked through the grounds taking yet more pictures of my favorite sights.

After changing into an outfit that was somewhat last dinner out cute while still being park practical I walked back along the beach to the dock and took the motor launch to the MK. The sweet little boats traveling among the resorts had become some of my favorite rides.

DSC_0077_2.jpg

I cavorted in front of the train station for a little while, taking very many photopass pictures with a photographer who was willing to keep going as long as I had a new pose to offer. At the end, he was very sweet and said that he had fun and that he felt like he was at a real shoot.

Then I took some farewell to pumpkins pictures before heading in to the park.

Oh, that No Way Jose is now definitely on my todo list!! Looks like Mickey was enjoying it too!

I love the photos of you posing in front of the train station.

Say it isn't so! Your trip can't be over...:sad2:

I walked the happy walk of Main Street past yet more pumpkins:

I decided to go to Adventureland first so I turned left and soon was hearing the drums and passing by the squirty Tikis.

DSC_0101-2.jpg

I took a last ride on Pirates and was grateful there were no flash photos, although an enthusiastic little guy in our boat made propeller sounds almost the entire way.

I walked back to Frontierland through the Aladdin area gate.

DSC_0104_2.jpg

I didn’t want to get wet in my slightly cute outfit, so I skipped Splash Mountain and took a last spooky tour of the Haunted Mansion. I was still seeing new details in the attic scene with each ride. I continued the loop through the park to Fantasyland after stopping to look at the little Magic and Spells wagon outside the HM.

Although I hadn’t been on IASW this trip, I decided to skip it now as the line was too long. An ethereal twilight was coming to Fantasyland and I took photos as I walked over to Toontown.

DSC_0130-3.jpg

I thought I might get on the Barnstormer (I’ve never experienced it) but the wait was too long to justify a few seconds of ride. I did poke around the queue for quite a while. The theme is that it is a flight school for cats and dogs. Goofy has a garden out back that you wind through after touring the school, before heading up to the ride.

Then I continued around the park, going to SM to use my FP from the morning and whoosh through the dark while grinning ear to ear.

For my very last ride at the MK I boarded the TTA and rode twice around in a farewell to being a citizen of Tomorrowland. Goodbye girl in the hairdressing machine and cool model of Walt’s original EPCOT concept! As a fan of both historic references and corny humor, I appreciate the announcements. “Paging Mr. Morrow, Mr. Tom Morrow, your party from Saturn has arrived. Please give them a ring.”

I was going to pick up a souvenir popcorn bucket on my way out, but the Spectro crowds were already 5-6 deep and the popcorn cart line was 50 people long and stretched all the way around the corner and down Main Street so I abandoned that idea and headed to the Monorail for the Contemporary and dinner at the California Grill.

One more dinner, some packing, then it's departure day! I did get to stay on property until 3 pm on the last day so there's more fun to come before I have to make the drive to the airport.

The good part is that once I get us back from the September trip, we'll start the December report!

No Way Jose :cloud9: How I long for thee...one more year and you will be mine

Wonderful pics of MK! I think your last dinner outfit is very cute!

I'm sure that Jose will treat you well!

What a wonderful evening! Love your outfit and I love your poses. :goodvibes

Thanks! Photopass is really fun for the solo traveler. I get to have pictures that show I was actually on my own trip, and I love playing with the borders when I get home.

September 13th - Last Night Dinner and Wishes

I got to the Contemporary in time to cruise the gift shops on the Concourse one last time. I have a tradition of finding some cool item here that I haven’t seen anywhere else (last time it was the Snow White 70th Anniversary pin) and tonight was no exception. They had a Piece of History pin featuring Figment and Dreamfinder from the version of the Imagination ride that was a beautiful thing before the insane refurbishment.

DSC_0003-2.jpg

I scooped up the pin and then headed to the second floor check in station for the California Grill. The CM asked if I wanted to sit at the counter but since I use meal time to catch up on notes for the TR I waited for a table to have elbow room for writing in my journal.

The escort took us up in the elevator. I shared the ride with a couple accompanied by their young daughter. In one of those cringing moments of witnessing rough parenting that come with every trip, the mother’s reply to a question from the little girl was a brusque and angry “Shut up!” :scared1: Ouch ouch ouch. I wanted to take the daughter to dinner with me and buy her lots of lovely food and sugar while saying kind and supportive things to her.

I had a short wait in the lounge and then was escorted to what I think of as my usual table, over on the Epcot side. I have had this table for the vast majority of my meals here. The table had celebratory Mickey confetti of uncertain origin. I had no button proclaiming a birthday or holiday and nothing had been reported at the reservation. When I checked in they asked if I was celebrating anything, and I had slightly sadly said it was my last night, so perhaps it was cheer up confetti.

I was determined to try at least one new thing tonight, and I was already dreaming of the pork tenderloin and goat cheese polenta, so knew I had to act in the appetizer category. I was also feeling the effects of many days of Disney eating, so wanted something a little bit light. I settled on the heirloom tomato salad with red onions and ricotta.

DSC_0173.jpg

It was delicate and lovely, featuring different colors and styles of tomatoes with a festive confetti like sprinkling of parsley. This wasn’t the most killer tomato salad I’ve ever had, but was very enjoyable in a late summer juicy tomato kind of way.

DSC_0178-1.jpg

The pork tenderloin with goat cheese polenta delivered as always. The meat was a perfect combination of grilled exterior and juicy interior, with bursts of fine pork flavor in each bite. The polenta was corn meal elevated to near dessert status in its creamy deliciousness.

Between dinner and dessert was Wishes. The sweet affirming certainty of Jiminy’s promises and encouragement set against the voices of the dreamers always brings a tear, especially on this last night. At least my wish to come back soon is already true, so I wasn't as sad as I have been on trips where the next visit was a year away.

I was apparently overcome with emotion and forgot to take a picture of my dessert, which was Valrhona Chocolate Cake with Apricot Ice Cream. The cake was a classic warm lava style cake, a round chocolate cake exterior dusted with powdered sugar hiding a “molten” chocolate interior. Across the plate from the cake was a scoop of apricot ice cream perched on a crushed chocolate cookie base. There were zig zag apricot drizzles decorating the plate. It didn’t do anything to get itself in the dessert record book but was entirely enjoyable in the way that chocolate cake and ice cream is guaranteed to be.

I headed home on the monorail, debating whether I should bust through most of my packing tonight so as to make rope rope at HS or AK tomorrow, or relax tonight and have a leisurely morning at the hotel before departing. I hated to commit to packing as it was so closely related to leaving but decided it would be better to have the most options in the morning which meant getting the packing out of the way tonight.

It took a few hours to get everything organized and stowed away. I had stocked up on Goofy treats so put those into little plastic containers to go in my carry on with the coffee mugs. My duffel bag absorbed the t-shirts and sweatshirt I had purchased and I put odd shaped items into the costume box to be shipped home from the front desk tomorrow. I set out the computer, phone, iPod and a camera battery to charge overnight.

I finally reluctantly turned out the lights after sitting on the balcony for a few minutes, enjoying the last night of my own private Polynesia.

Yay for the cheer up confetti! Those little touches just make Disney, Disney.

Yummy pork!

Oh. My. Goodness.

Goat Cheese Polenta. *Drool*

I have this sudden urge to call Disney Dining and see if they have any availability for California Grill. :rolleyes1

A fabulous Disney secret is that if you don't have an ADR you can walk up to the CG check in desk and ask if there is room to go up and eat in the bar/lounge area. You can have everything from drinks to a full dinner. There are little tables, comfy chairs and a lovely view of the MK. We did that in December when we wanted a nice dinner break before going to the Christmas party and it worked out really well.

Fabulous pictures. I can't believe it's almost over, but I'm very glad there is more fun in the future.

Love that Figment pin! Gotta find that for Chuck!
