When I was little, Daddy used to make fried cheerios (butter or margarine in a fry pan, and cook 'em till their brown) to snack on when we were watching TV. Tonight, the snow is falling and the winds are howling. The family is all sleeping in our room tonight because 8YO DD is scared of the loud winds. I'm going to make fried cheerios!

Anyone else have any strange but tasty snacks in your family you want to share? :D

Sounds YUM!!! I just went and checked, we have NO cheerios in the house. Drats.

The wind is howling for sure.

That actually sounds like a pretty yummy snack! Do you use the plain Cheerios?

Yes, the old fashioned Cheerios. We do up a whole box to take camping with us too. They really are yummy, you should try them. :D

Growing up we ate cracker cereal. Saltine crackers crushed in a bowl with milk and sugar. I love it, and so does my DS. My dad grew up in a family of 8 kids, and not much money. I guess this was a way to stretch some of it. He says all his brothers and sisters used to all eat it, and a lot of them still do!

Sounds yummy!! I have honey nut cheerios at the moment. Have you tried them with Honey nut cheerios?

No, I haven't. But if you do.. Let me know how they come out please.:D

I used to make hot vanilla milk shakes for my kids!!!

I was a single Mom with a tight budget and this is cheap!

You just heat up milk and add some suger and a couple drops of vanilla!! They loved it! ( It also helps to make them sleepy) ;)

I got a pan, fire and butter but no cheerios

My son and husband went camping this weekend with the Cub Scouts and it's just below freezing. I just finished making a big pot of chili for when they get home tomorrow. Hot chili, grated cheese on top with hot corn meal muffins on the side. Not really strange, just something to warm them up inside.

we would make up some bread dough and let it rise......and then break off little pieces and with a little oil in the fry pan.......just enough to coat the pan........put in the pieces.....and let it rise ever so slightly.....and then turn over.......and let it cook slowly on that side......then we would break them open....never cut with a knife and then put butter on them........dunk them in tea......this is soo good and from my daddys background which was canadian......this was called guilettes.......I know i spelt it wrong ...cause I do not do french that well...........it was good anyways

My dad used to make us peanut butter and butter sandwiches. Now, I can't even stomach the thought. :crazy2:

This was also the man who made peanut butter and spaghetti sandwiches (complete with sauce).......and when he was younger (in the 1920's) thought that vanilla extract would taste good on bread. Since there was hardly any food available, he was forced to eat the mess he created!!

I'm just about to head out to go grocery shopping. I might have to pick up some Cherrios. Sounds good!

Sounds good.

DD loves the following and it's very simple to make.

1 box oyster crackers
3/4 cup cooking oil (recipe calls for a cup)
1 pkg Hidden Valley ranch dressing.

Put crackers in a zip lock bag. Add oil and hidden valley. Zip the bag and then rotate it around for a few minutes to make sure everything is mixed and coated well.. Let it stand about a half hour and these are a yummy treat.

Otto's Doll, your cracker cereal is something that gives me such great memories of being a little girl at my grandparent's house. For some reason, we called it "graveyard stew" and my brother and I loved it. I am still a huge fan of sweet and salt combinations which is why I loved the cereal so much.

and he also does popcorn and milk too.....my kids sort of took over that one......yuck........and they said it was very english to have the popcorn and milk.......any England people want to verify that

Fried Cheerios sound really good.

We had Toasted Banana & butter sandwiches... and then the famous birthday treat : Chocolate Cake in a bowl with milk over it. Sounds gross, but I swear its awesome.

Hot buttered O's. Haven't had those in a while.
