So, it would appear that I have been a little tardy in my trip reporting. My apologies to my faithful readers, but a weekend away last weekend, a busy few days, and a new toy has kept me busy.
Right, let’s get on with it then.
There are a few of us there; you all know who they are, so I’ll not waste your time in repeating them.
This will be a short and sweet day, as all we did is played golf and went to V&A’s – easy!!
The laydees are going to the Mandara Spa, and Kev and me are playing golf with Big Vern.
So, Deb and I make the short journey to Wilderness Lodge (well short when you are in your own car – as opposed to painfully slow in a bus) as I am dropping off Deb and collecting Kev. We arrive at our agreed time and Deb takes herself off into Wilderness Lodge whilst I wait for Kev to materialise. 5 mins later Deb comes back out to inform me that Kev has forgotten his sunglasses or hat (or was it nail polish?!) – what a fool, he has one thing to remember and he ruddy forgets it! Am I starting to sound a little like Tam?
We make the hop to Shades of Green to meet up with Vern and get ourselves ready for 4hrs or so battling the Palm golf course. There are three of us, so we have an American guy added to make it a fourball (often happens to me at a Disney course, not an issue, but I supposes shows how popular golf is). We all stand on the first, eyeing up the tee shot. There is something of a small copse to the left of the course, which, one after another, my playing partners manage to find. Having seen this I stand on the tee with some trepidation. I manage to crack one down the middle on my first attempt. Fantastic I hear you say – only sad thing is that my golf game is always the opposite of the first hole – good first hole, crap 17 remaining holes!! As always this pans out to be the case, but, I enjoyed the company (you could almost forget that Kev was there with two others to talk to), and had a very pleasant time – thanks guys.
After a good, but hard, few hours we bid adieu to Vern as I need to get back to the room to prepare myself for the meal this evening at V&A’s – if you think that looks like mine come without hard work and time you are very much mistaken!!
Kev is swapped back for Deb, who IS on time and we head back to SSR.
A shower, a lot of makeup and hair drying, and 6 or 7 beers later we are ready for our evening out. A short and direct cab journey later (what no waiting around for ages? No multiple stops? No crowded bus?) we are at GF and meet the rest of our group in Mizners. This is much more like it to me – convivial chat with good friends (again with others around, you’d hardly know Kev was there) and a few strong drinks is what holidaying is all about.
The meal, as alway,s is fantastic and to my mind this could be the best single experience in WDW. I often think that places like V&A’s are real hidden gems and that the lack of awareness of them is why people do not understand why adults (and not just families) return to WDW and the surrounding area. I must confess that if the ancillary places, such as restaurants, were not here I do not know whether we would continue to come here – sacrilege I know!!
