Itinerary rumor.

I swear if Disney had 10 ships sailing they could fill them up and still have people waiting in line!
Unfortunately DCL can get the monetary commitment in order to build the ships and test this theory. :(

Right now we are in the process of planning a Mediterranean cruise for '07. Even if the Magic does reposition and starts a summer of Mediterranean cruises we opted not to go on DCL. The reason, we want longer than 7 days. Mediterranean cruises are expensive enough with out adding the extra cost just to go "Disney".

To give you an idea of cost, if we booked for the 11 night out of Rome with airfare etc. plus a pre-cruise trip of three extra days (one day of that pre cruise is to recoop from the trip over the ocean) Florence, Rome then board and do the 11 day trip in a Royal Suite which is similar to the DCL cat. 3 = $29,700 for the three of us. That is not including the excursions we would do at every port since the ports are the reason for a Mediterrean cruise. As I told me husband, the ship is our floating hotel not the main attraction on this type of a cruise. I can only imagine what DCL would charge.

The total cost of our 7 day cruises here at home in a cat. 3 by the time we are back home, trip, air etc. plus what we spent on the trip and excursions = about $12,000. That would also include a prenight at the Airport Hyatt. Double that amount and you still don't have what the Celebrity cruise will cost. Also remember, this quote is based on '06 not '07 since '07 dates have not been released by Celebrity.

For all of you looking forward to a possible Mediterranean cruise on Disney, I suggest you start saving now. Also, our TA strongly recommended we fly Business class air not coach over to Europe. It is a l o n g flight and seems even longer if you are in coach. The pre-quote price we were given, $29,700 did not include coach air.

Our Itinerary:
arrive in Florence day 1
see Florence day 2
travel to Rome and see some of Rome day 3
finish seeing Rome day 4 and Board ship at night
Rome, Italy
Naples, Italy
sea
Mykonos, Greece
Santorini, Greece
sea
Messina, (Sicily)
sea
Nice, France
Livorno, Italy (Pisa)
Rome depart fly home

Another item our TA mentioned was weather. Since our then 15 yr old daughter will be on summer break be prepared for HOT weather, esp. in Greece. I guess the best times to cruise over there are April, May and Sept, Oct. That alone could be why Disney may opt out of a Mediteranean itinery.

Happy cruising to all, Kathy

Living in the UK and going to USA and Europe for holidays, I confirm the med can be hot, but not as hot as Florida in the Summer. Greece has a very dry heat in a lot of its islands but the worst are in the West and they most likly will be to far for the Magic to go to.

Islands such as Corfu can have nice breezes, but not the humidity of Florida

Probably only in the summer & holiday periods. I swear all these wait lists jack up the prices.

I doubt that Greece in the Summer would be any worse than Florida and the Caribbean in the Summer and there would be far less humidity and less likelihood of hurricanes!

Roll on the Spring to put us all out of our misery!!

We too are planning on the med for 07 but decided not to do dcl wether they do a med cruise or not. We chose a great 14 night cruise with 13 ports and it is costin gus an arm and a leg already. As much as I would love to sail dcl we are all ready spending enough as it is. And we gave up hope of the possible Alaska rumor and booked with princess for this July.

My mom is Greek and I lived in Greece for about 2 years, visited regularly, etc. It is hot there, similar to California...but there's also lots of water (Med Sea) which helps cool it down. And let me tell ya, it's not hot and humid like FL was in June! That's something I've never experienced (drenched in 2 minutes, standing still). Greek summers are very similar to Southern California summers. And I've been to the Caribbean also....again, Greece is cooler by comparision. JMO!

I can tell you that the DISNEY MAGIC is booked for the port of Villefranche near Nice for 2007. She will come to there every 10 - 11 days, so I think that there will be two cruises of 10-11 days.

Unfortunately not more information.

Best wishes from Germany

Out of curiousity, how do you know this for sure? Y'all in Europe know more than us Yankees? ;)
