We will be travelling to California from North Texas in Late June. Right now the plan is to drive over three days. My husband will be with us for the drive and for the beginning and end of the trip. We need to make sure that our 8 year old gets to ride as many of the "big" rides when my husband will be with us. (We have a 5 year old whose idea of a thrill ride is Peter Pan.) ;)

We went to WDW for the first time with the kids last summer and I am really excited about this trip to DLR. It seems like most of our WDW favorites are at DLR!

We know that we want to go to DLR, Lego Land and the beach. (The kids have never seen the ocean!) This is what I have come up with as a tentative plan for our trip.
June 25, Check into Hojo, dinner at Goofy's
June 26 DLR Up at Rope Drop, stay for an hour or 2 after lunch. We need to get an early start the next day so we won't try to see the night entertainment.
June 27 Lego Land
June 28 DLR ( We need to stay in the area so DH can fly out of LAX at 8pm) Fireworks for the kids and I
Just the me and the kids for the next 4 days:
June 29 Beach, hotel, DLR (make it an early night)
June 30 DLR rope drop, break back for the evening (Possibly see Fantasmic)
July 1 Beach, hotel, DLR
July 2 DLR (DH will arrive at LAX around 10pm)
July 3 DLR (anything left on the wishlist of rides, probably a repeat of the thrill rides for my son and DH) We will leave Anaheim and drive to Phoenix this afternoon or evening.

This gives my husband possibly 2 DLR park days. The kids and I have a possibility of 7. I was going to buy the Deluxe AP for myself and 6 day PH for the kids, 1 or 2 day PH for DH.
July 3 would be a blackout day for the AP which means that probably just DH and son would go to the parks. I kind of think that we will all be pretty much done with the parks by then. I will work out the ticket details as we get closer. I'm not too worried about the ticket situation.

Do you think that we have too much park time? Should we try to do some other places? I don't think that Universal will work because I am pretty sure that my daughter will not enjoy it much and we have a Sea World in Texas. Honestly, I just don't think that we will get bored.

I really want to do a couple of other character meals. My daughter will love to do the Minnie Mouse breakfast. We loved Ohana last year so we might try the Lilo and Stitch meal.

I felt like we moved at a breakneck speed last summer at WDW and I want to have a little more leisurely pace. (I do realize this will be a very busy week to go.) We will be up early, utilize FP, etc...

I would appreciate any input. Thanks for reading this, I know it is long!

Welcome to the DLR board, carj. :welcome:

Since you enjoyed WDW, I recommend you read HydroGuy's primer for WDW vets:

& this info link on how effective park hopping is at DLR (as opposed to WDW):

& the rest of HydroGuy's tip threads are worth a read:

I'll offer additional opinions in your post quote below:

GRAND CANYON? DURANGO? SANTA FE/TAOS? :thumbsup2

I THINK IT'S VERY IMPORTANT TO PLAN THESE DAYS WITH DH BEFOREHAND....THE "BIG RIDES" CAN GET CROWDED....BUT INTELLIGENT TOURING (GETTING TO THE PARK EARLY & UTILIZING FPs....CAN HELP AVOID LINES & FRUSTRATION.

We went to WDW for the first time with the kids last summer and I am really excited about this trip to DLR. It seems like most of our WDW favorites are at DLR!

THEY ARE....BUT THERE ARE ALSO MANY DLR EXCLUSIVES THAT ARE "MUST - DOs".

We know that we want to go to DLR, Lego Land and the beach. (The kids have never seen the ocean!) This is what I have come up with as a tentative plan for our trip.

THE BEACHES ARE AMAZING (BUT THE WATER IS COLD TO US TEXANS ;)). SOME ARE LESS THAN 30 MIN. FROM DLR....& OTHERS MIGHT REQUIRE A "DAY TRIP".

June 25, Check into Hojo, dinner at Goofy's.

HAVE YOU CHECKED INTO THE PRICE OF A 3 DAY HOPPER FOR DH? WHY NOT STEP INTO DL THAT AFTERNOON/EVENING (BEFORE OR AFTER GOOFY'S)? YOU'LL BE WALKING RIGHT BY THE DL GATES (WHICH WOULD DRIVE ME CRAZY NOT TO GO IN FOR A TEST DRIVE ;)).

June 26 DLR Up at Rope Drop, stay for an hour or 2 after lunch. We need to get an early start the next day so we won't try to see the night entertainment.

IT'S A FRIDAY. ARRIVE 40 MIN. PRIOR TO OPENING. :thumbsup2

June 27 Lego Land

Just the me and the kids for the next 4 days: WILL YOU HAVE A CAR?

I HAVE FOUND SUNDAYS BLISSFULLY UNCROWDED THE FIRST 2-3 HOURS. COLLECT FPs EARLY & TOUR THE LEFT SIDE OF THE PARK (AVOIDING FANTASYLAND UNLESS YOU HAVE MM PRIVILIDGES).

June 29 Beach, hotel, DLR (make it an early night)
June 30 DLR rope drop, break back for the evening (Possibly see Fantasmic)
July 1 Beach, hotel, DLR

ON YOUR "BEACH DAYS"....CONSIDER WALKING INTO DL (& POSSIBLY DCA) FOR AT ROPEDROPS.....RIDE A COUPLE OF RIDES W/O CROWDS, PICK UP A COUPLE OF FPs FOR LATER......THEN ENJOY A NICE 4-7 HOUR BEACH VISIT (AVOIDING TRAFFIC).

July 2 DLR (DH will arrive at LAX around 10pm)
July 3 DLR (anything left on the wishlist of rides, probably a repeat of the thrill rides for my son and DH) We will leave Anaheim and drive to Phoenix this afternoon or evening.

I'LL DEFER TO OTHERS, BUT IF YOU BUY YOURSELF A 6 (OR 7?) DAY PARKHOPPER, YOU CAN UPGRADE YOUR LAST DAY TO THE AP. (OF COURSE YOU'LL MISS OUT ON DISCOUNTS....& MAYBE YOU NEED THE DLR BREAK.)

I LIKE YOUR PLAN & AGREE. :thumbsup2

KEEP IN MIND THAT THE MONORAIL CAN BE USED TO GET FROM DL TO (OR FROM) A GOOFY'S (OR LILO) MEAL.....& THAT LILO IS ALSO VERY CLOSE TO THE GCH SIDE ENTRANCE INTO DCA (WHEN PLANNING YOUR DAY).

I felt like we moved at a breakneck speed last summer at WDW and I want to have a little more leisurely pace. (I do realize this will be a very busy week to go.) We will be up early, utilize FP, etc...

HAVE A GREAT TIME PLANNING A VISIT TO WALT'S PARK. :thumbsup2

Thank you so much for your help! I am really excited about this trip!

I will definitely think about going into DLR to pick up FP and ride a few things before we head to the beach.

Although the kids will love the beach, I know that it is not likely that we will spend the day there. I just want to give them every opportunity to go to the beach if that is what we decide to do.

I really appreciate your thoughts on my plan.

Also, as I read more posts I am beginning to see that perhaps Dallas traffic and LA traffic are not the same thing!:)
