My dd just told me her chin is itchy alot lately. I googled it and it can be a sign of asthma. There was a checklist on one of the websites and out of about 20 things, she has 13 or 14. She says she never has trouble breathing but her coughing(esp at night) is terrible. It sounds like a croupy cough(you know like a seal) She has also been very tired lately but I chalk that up to softball every day. I guess I'm just wondering if anyone is familar with this and should I take her back to the allergist?

i have asthma and i don't have problems with an itchy chin, i've never heard of that lol :lmao:

the cough thing does sound like it could be related tho. i'd check that out with the doctor, at least.

I have always had that itchy chin feeling when the asthma flares up. Asthmatic cough is the worst, I've had it for a few months now and because it's from allergies nothing is really helping. Try allergy medication and maybe have her evaluated.

my son always had the itchy chin thing too, he was diagnosed with activity induced asthmatic bronchitus. He never had problems breathing but any time he would run, he played softball and football, he would end up coughing for hours. He has since out grown it though.

Thanks! Did they treat it at all?

The Dr prescribed him an inhaler to use if his breathing got hard, but he never had to use it. For the most part we were told to just watch him and limit his activities outside of sports. Winter months were the worst.

I would have your DD checked out by her physician just to be safe.

I don't get an itchy chin before an asthma attack but I get a prickly feeling all over my face and my nose gets numb (weird...i know) before I have a flare up.
When my nose starts feeling numb or may face gets tingly, I can tell you right there that it is the beginning of an attack

Not all asthma cases are "breathing" issues, there is a very common cough variant asthma and the night coughing is the number one symptom. I would take her into an asthma specialist.

This is the first thing my daughter complains of when she has eaten something she is allergic to. She got a croupy cough with her last reaction that sent us to the ER, now we have an EpiPen.

Thanks guys. I'm going to call the pediatrician. She has had this yucky cough before and it was a sinus infection caused by allergies but after hearing your responses I'm going to get it checked out. Don't want to mess around with possible asthma.
