Italian translation?

The problem with translators is that they don't necessarily put things in the appropriate order, or use the correct grammar in the translation. They're good for getting a general idea, but not necessarily good for getting an actual, usable translation.

What I'm looking for is how to say "our empty nest" in Italian, and what I got with a translator was "il nostro nido vuoto". Anyone know if that's correct usage??

There are different dialects depending on the region and noe of it translates exact into English but called my aunt (they are originally from Northern Region of Italy) and yes word by word it translates into the our nests empty we wouldn't say it that way but is what it is

Well I would have asked my sicilian relatives (probably would have a totally different answer) but I'm not calling Sicily so this will have to do

The phrase "empty nest" directly translates in Italian. "Nido vuoto" is correct and in Italian does literally mean "empty nest" and figuratively mean "home without children."

LOL Not completely Dan...yet. M graduated from college and is moving into her own apartment Friday until she decides what to do about graduate school. C moves into her own apartment near college (year round) the following weekend. S is still here for one more year before college. But we're moving S into M's room, and taking over S's room. As sad as I am about the kids moving on and out, I decided to throw myself into decorating my new "den". And I was thinking of putting "il nostro nido vuoto" on the wall from one of those vinyl "stickers" companies. Not that I want to look too excited. But, it's all good...they're excited, and I'm excited (altho worried) for them too.
