Thought that I would share a letter (sorry it's so long, but it's worth reading) that I sent to DCL communications in regards to our 5th cruise on the Disney Magic this past January. I hope that it encourages all who read.
PS. The letter itself was put into the hands of the President of DCL himself and I was called back "personally" with a sincere "thank you". That just proved to me even more the intregrity and character of all those who make DCL so magical.
A copy of the letter:
Dear Disney Cruise Line,
My name is Carolyn M. Sierra and I live in North Carolina. My family and I got back on January 29th from cruising the Eastern Caribbean on the Disney Magic. This was our 5th time on the Magic, and with much anticipation, we are looking forward to many more.
This cruise was an extra special time for our family, because my brother and sister in law decided to get "remarried" on the ship (17 of us came onboard this cruise). You see, back in May of 2004 we invited my brother and is family to join us on the Magic, this was their very first cruise ever, and now, "they are hooked". They enjoyed everything about the Magic, that they won't even entertain trying another cruise line. They said, "when you have the BEST, why not just stick with it".
I write this letter you, Disney Cruise Line, to express my appreciation for all the wonderful things your cruise line does to truly make "dreams come true". Every time we've been on the Magic has been truly a "magical vacation".
There are so many things about the Magic that makes ones eyes light up, for instance: the elegance & sleek design of the ship, the two extraordinary "MICKEY" stacks that set Disney Cruise Line apart from any other cruise line, the outstanding interior design of the ship, especially the three inviting dining rooms and oh, let's not forget the distinct ships horn; there is not another one like it on sea (gotta love it!!).
Now, having ones eyes light up is right up there with also having ones heart touched by the special way the crew onboard the Disney Magic make you feel. The crew has always excelled in this area (that's one of the reasons why we keep coming back), they have always gone above and beyond to make each member in our family feel as if they were the only one onboard. It is such a pleasure when one greets you with a smile and has genuine concern if you are enjoying your vacation and if not, sees to it that they do everything in their power to change that. For example: (Example #1): There was a mix up with a movie one night onboard, and my husband, John, just happen to run into, Rachel, the cruise director, to ask her for clarification. Rachel was extremely polite and apologetic to John and felt it necessary to bless our family with some wonderful gifts to compensate for the mix up. Now truly she did not have to do that, apologizing was surely enough, but because, Rachel, went "above & beyond", we walked away with one more terrific memory (thanks so much, Rachel). (example #2): My sons stateroom smelled very bad of mold, so I called guest services and spoke with, Tracey, who in turn called, Lydia (mgr. of housekeeping). Lydia took immediate action to take care of the situation and did everything to make sure we were not inconvenienced in anyway. Several days following, Tracey made it a point to call, drop us a note of apology, and sometimes she just wanted to make sure we were having a magical vacation. Now that's customer service if i do say so myself!!
I believe that the reason the crew has such a wonderful attitude is because, you, Disney Cruise Line, take very good care of the staff. Being a DVC member, it's important to me to make sure that those who work so hard on the Magic are being cared for, so during my cruise, I asked over 8 different crew from all different trades, "do you like working for DCL? Are they good to you?" of course I was not surprised by their response, they all said, "oh yes, they are very good to us". It just added to my list of reasons of why I love DCL so much!! Keep up the good work
Although I always arrive on the Disney Magic with much excitement, I can't help but come to a quick realization that it's only for a brief time and then, "back to the real world". As many times as I found myself going back there, Disney Magic had the ability to help me forget real life for those 7 days and just "relax". Being a Mom and Wife, "relaxing" is just not in the vocabulary. I relaxed and enjoyed myself so much that the day we had to disembark, brought my eyes to tears. Not just tears of sorrow, because I had to leave, but more so tears of thankfulness for the privilege of sailing on such an "outstanding" vessel with an outstanding crew that made this vacation for the Sierra family once again, a "magical one"!!
A big "THANK YOU" to: Disney Cruise Line and Disney Magic, Captain Thord, Rachel, Tracey, Lydia, Brett the bartender, Youth Counselors and the entire crew, you are truly the "BEST" ship on the seven seas!!!!!!!!! We are forever grateful
We look forward to "C"ing you real soon
Could you please see that this e-mail makes it into the hands of the management team from DCL so that they are encouraged as well? Thank you !!
PS. Did you notice the e-mail name? That's how much I believe in DCL and the name it stands behind. It's also a great conversation piece and selling tool for DCL
Much appreciated,
John,Carolyn,John Jr. and Christopher Sierra
