Sorry no pix this day rushing, crabby, logistics bleah!
So, day 6, we headed for Blizzard Beach for the day. It was hot and crowded, and we had a pretty unmemorable lunch of the burger variety. After wandering around the WHOLE park once or twice and not being able to find a chair anywhere, we were ALL too crabby to do anything but wolf it down. Just a mama-note, I like Typhoon Lagoon MUCH BETTER. Maybe the slides are better at BB, but TL is much more relaxing IMHO!
After wed had enough of that, we picked up some to-go meals at Pepper Market for the boys (see those CS meals wed saved from earlier this week). Ben had a chicken and mozzarella sandwich with fries, and TJ wanted wait for it wait for it CHICKEN STRIPS! All they had was a kids meal chicken strips, which certainly wouldnt do, so we asked the CM if she could do an adult size meal. She did, and it was a nice portion. The boys picked out cinnamon rolls for their dessert, which we figured would make a good breakfast for them in the morning.
After getting them settled in the room with all kinds of threats and warnings not to open the door to strangers, we took off for our date night at Citricos. Our anniversary was the month before, but since we have to share it with TJs BIRTHDAY, we usually dont celebrate that day, anyway (the ONE DAY I didnt want him to arrive are you seeing a pattern here?) So we decided to do our nice night out at Disney.
It was a beautiful night, so we caught the bus and then the boat to the Grand Floridian. Easy transfers meant we were a bit early, so we wandered around the shops a bit, and then checked in. We were seated very quickly, and presented with personalized menus. Very cute! I ordered a Bellini (champagne and peach puree) YUM!
We started with the sautéed shrimp, which was prepared with lemon, white wine, tomatoes and feta, and was presented in a delicious buttery little dish. Could have eaten two of them.
For our main course, I ordered the Berkshire pork two ways. From the menu, it is Pork tenderloin and roasted pork belly with a summer truffle-potato gratin, swiss chard and mustard drizzle." It was a lovely portion of lean, flavorful pork tenderloin, and I was so excited to try pork belly. They cook it all the time on Top Chef and I have never tried it. I thought it would be more chewy/salty, like bacon, but it was melt-in-your-mouth texture truly unique. I had the wine pairing recommended with it, which was nice.
John had the Oak-grilled Atlantic swordfish with shrimp risotto and lemon marmalade, and he had the wine pairing too. Ate every bite!
For dessert, well shoot, I didnt write it down, but it was good. We enjoyed our peaceful kid-free meal very much. Was it worth 2 TS credits apiece? Hmm, not really sure it wasnt so exceptional to be TWICE as good as some of our other meals, but it was definitely a cut above.
We finished up, ducked into the Magic Kingdom for a little bit, and may or may not have made out in the Haunted Mansion.
Got back to the room, the boys did just fine on their own, and yes, they managed to eat their breakfast for dessert.
Stay tuned: Day 7 is next, where we have the BEST SALAD EVER, and things (almost) go terribly wrong
I've been enjoying your writing and food reviews so much. You could write humor books or for a television series. What a cliff hanger you have left us with!
