It so cold in the South.

The house is freezing! The heater can't keep up. All of my hoses are frozen, so I have to haul buckets of water BY HAND from the barn with the frost free hydrant to the large barn. Sucks sucks SUCKS! I moved here from Long Island to escape cold winters. This is ridiculous.

I just looked at the Weather Channel map and it's only blue, pink, purple, and white. A friend in FL told me that classes are canceled at her school because the heating can't keep up.

And so are my fingers :lmao: I work in a Hospital and it was nice and toasty when I got here this morning, but some dumb person has turned off the heat and I am freezing.

i live in NE alabama, and my heat pump has been on ALL night. when i went to bed, it had been on about 40 minutes, and i got up to check it and make sure it wasn't malfunctioning, and it said 69 degrees, which is where we set it, so i thought it would go off in a minute. 5 minutes later, it was still on, so i got up again and checked it and it said 68 degrees! it just can't keep up! it was 23 degrees here at 10:15 pm last night. WAY too cold for this southern girl! c'mon spring!

I live in East Central AL and my new heater (got it 1 year ago) ran all night long and most of the day yesterday and I was still cold. It seems to be keeping the temp inside at the right temp, but to keep it warm it is constantly running. I have been so greatful that we discovered the problem last year when the temps weren't this low, because I would be miserable right now.

It is supposed to be 15 degrees here tonight and I am not looking forward to that, at least I don't work nights anymore.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!! Make it not be true! They've been home for weeks, it's time for them to back to school so we can have some peace! :hippie:

It was a university, so you may be safe. :goodvibes DD starts back tomorrow and I haven't heard anything about schools being closed here yet. My outside faucets are frozen and my heat is running non-stop just to maintain, but otherwise we're good. Of course now they're predicting snow on Thursday?! What's up with that? :scared:

I'm probably the only person in Florida LOVING the cold weather!!!

I hate the heat, I've been waiting all winter for the cold to hit...and it's going to last a whole week! :cool1: It's 33 here right now!!!

I'm a server at Disney World, and all day today guests have been complaining to me about the cold weather - doesn't help when I'm super happy about it!

Noooo! Don't tell me this! I'm in Toronto right now for winter break and I'm freezing my butt off. I don't want to go back to Georgia and still be cold. Maybe it'll warm up by Wednesday night:lmao:

We just finished a 9 day cruise out of Tampa last week. The last morning at sea we were off Key West and the air temp was 65 degrees, a 20 degree drop from the previous day. It was cold. The morning we pulled into Tampa, it was 44 degrees.

A low of 30 degrees for Orlando tonight.

I head to Orlando in a few days and it still looks like it is going to be COLD. Wah. That has only happened to us on one other january trip. Although I had a Feb. trip that was my coldest ever--that was the year I went looking for warm places and ended up buying DVC! lol

Algore send me some of that global warming. I hate cold weather. It is not supposed to be this cold in South Mississippi. We like it hot here. That is why we live here. I have on sweats, socks, slippers and I am freezing. Fireplace and heater going. Supposed to snow Thursday then freeze more. :scared1: I promise not to complain about sweating next summer. Just send me some heat.

Here in North FL we may hit 15 this week. Possible snow flurries Thurs night.

my ol' heat pump is pumping his little heart out...sure hope he doesn't have a "heart attack".

I lived on the East Coast for fifty-three years. Much of that time was spent in Maine, but eighteen of the years were spent in Maryland. I have taken numerous vacations to Florida, many in the winter months. Here's what I think...

I have been in the Southwest now for about sixteen months and I have to say, if anyone is looking for heat, warmth and sunshine YEAR-ROUND it's out here! This little smilie describes the summer-:scared1: and this little smilie represents the winter-:cool1:!

Last February, my husband and I spent a week in Palm Beach, Florida and it was freezing cold! We had to get back to Arizona to get warm again! I know it isn't always that cold in Florida. We just happened to be there during a cold snap.

Now, no place is perfect, but if anyone really, really wants to be warm year-round I know where that place is.:rotfl: The humidity is practically non-existent in Southern Arizona. As everyone says- it's a dry heat. You won't sweat, but believe me, you'll feel the heat! So far, we've done okay with the heat. It's the creepy scorpions that might do me in!:scared1:

I'm just north of Mobile. It's 32 degrees...32!! Are you freaking kidding me?!?! My kids are so excited because there's a chance of snow. Bah humbug!!

I'm in Melbourne (east of Disney) and it's 40 degrees! Aaaahhhh! I'm cold in my house, I'm wearing 2 pairs of socks and 2 blankets!

See, the houses down here are built for hurricanes...not the cold! We have sooo many windows, the cold air is creeping in everywhere!

I had to buy little extra heaters for the kids' rooms because we live in a small trailer that has a window heat/air unit. It simply isn't enough to heat the bedrooms.

I live in Alabama and I can tell you that it is cold here. It's 31 out right now & it's going down to 18 tonight. My heat is running non stop. It's going to be cold all week and we could even get snow in Thursday.

We have an outside cat and we have brought her in for all of this. It's to cold for her out there. She is not happy, but she is warm.

Please don't take this the wrong way, but I was so happy to see these posts. I live in north Alabama, so we're getting the frigidly cold weather here, too. I have been worried the past few days that something was wrong with our heater (heat pump) because it seemed like the heat was running a lot to keep up. My DH even changed out our old, outdated thermostat to try to ease my worries.

I don't remember it being this cold in a long time! I guess heat pumps weren't meant to keep up with this kind of weather, and it's common for the heater to keep running to try to maintain.

Here's to hoping it warms up soon!

Another person in Alabama (Central). It's freezing!!! Our heat is staying on as well. I'm dreading the gas bill.

We're in central AL too, but in the sticks (about an hour outside of Birmingham). We have propane gas and our regular scheduled delivery day is this Friday. I'm starting to get worried that he may not be able to get here on Friday, so I'm going to call tomorrow to see if there's any possible way to bump my date to Wed. or Thurs.

One advantage to living in the sticks is that most of us out here do have generators, so we're ready in case we lose power. We're no more likely to lose it due to our location, but when we do...we're usually the last ones to get it back on since we're so sparsley populated.
