It looks like my return to the boards might be short-lived

Roger is on his way home from daycare with Bobby so that we can take him to the hospital. His asthma has flared up again (I don't get it....we give him the medicine like we're supposed to and he still has these attacks.) I worry about him so much. He hasn't been to the hospital since February, but still......

Is there a thunderstorm coming your way? I've read the barometric pressure can be severe to asthmatic people. I hope Bobby is ok.

I never heard that but I will say my allergies have been acting up badly lately.

my allergies this year have been the worse ever.....so it could be this year too.....my friend has ashtma and she is worse this year too....

It's hard to see your little one sick (hey - even when they're big boys, it's hard to see them sick!). I hope he'll be fine soon.

Our daughter has been flaring this week. What type of preventative is your son taking? Perhaps it's time for a preventative med change. . .our daughter was always well-controlled on the nonsteroidal inhaler: Intal. Our son, however, an allergic asthmatic (versus the daughter who is viral) needed a steroidal inhaler: Beclovent to control his symptoms. He also had/has to use an allergy medication to help control the symptoms.

If your son has only been diagnosed within the past year or so, perhaps the physicians haven't yet gotten a handle on the triggers. Sometimes it helps to keep a diary of the episodes to give clues to the trigger(s).

In any event, good luck--I have lived with this since our daughter was 16 months and nearly died (she's now approaching 13). Our son became symptomatic at 5 (after a T&A) and he's now 15. If you need to chat about it or looking for more advice, I'd be happy to share our knowledge AND there are a good many RNs on this board, too! A second opinion never hurts! Best wishes for a quick turnaround. . .

The good news is that he didn't need to be admitted. He was sent home with OraPred and we were told to give him his inhaler with Pulmacort and Albuterol every 4-5 hours as well as his nightly dose of Singulair. I actually fell asleep holding him in his hospital bed because I had not had much sleep last night or the night before. I'm going to bed early tonight, but will be waking up for my share of the treatments during the night (Roger takes turns with me, which I think is awesome considering that he's not Bobby's father.)
Oh, and he was not diagnosed during the past year. He was diagnosed as a little baby (I think around 6 months old.)

Happy to hear all of it turned out well. There's nothing worse than when your child is in the throes of a flare. . .such a helpless feeling!

From the fact that he was still somewhat his really excited, active self I thought he might not be as sick this time and then when they didn't start an IV on him, I was 90% sure that they weren't going to keep him.

Glad to see he didn't have to be admitted, Becki. Hope he continues to improve.

Oh, and its great seeing you back on the boards!
