At this point I should be excited about the upcoming trip but the pick-up truck we are going to take is acting up. It is a problem that was fixed a year ago under warranty but has reoccured Three Weeks before we go. GM is going to get an ear full tomorrow.
The sad part is a year ago I argued that the "repair" they did was not going to last but the service manager basically told me I didn't know what I was talking about. In my younger years I could take a motor out on a Friday, repair it and have it back in by Monday for the drive to work.So needless to say I was right but it doesn't feel good knowing that.
It's no wonder GM is losing customers left, right and center.Their customer service sucks. The product is not bad but they need to back it up, this from a die-hard GM man.
Thank you for letting me rant, I'm soooo stressed out!

Chris.

So here we are 16 days from our trip and the truck has a cracked head. Thankfully I bought an extened warrenty this time.:woohoo:
I have a good rep at this new dealer I'm dealing with in Ajax, SOOOO I might be getting a new motor out of it and some re-newed faith in General Motors. Either way it's in getting fixed but we are cutting it close.

good luck and keep us updated...

I am feeling your pain. We are 15 days from departure, and suddenly last night, the ABS and 4x4 lights start to activate. Managed to get the truck into the dealership, and find out a disc has cracked on the front axle. Happens to be the disc that the ABS reads, and when the crack hits the gear, the 4x4 also reads to engage. Then found out that they don't replace the disc, but the entire axle instead (which needs to be ordered). Told that it can be replaced Tuesday, if there aren't any complications, which leaves 10.5 days before we drive down.:scared:

Digscat,

That sucks big time but as you know I share your pain.;) I'll get the truck back on Tues. or Weds and it will give me a bunch of days to shake it down. Either way I'll be worrying all the way down but not the way back,:rotfl: too much money tied up in this vaction to get stuck halfway there.

Why is it something big blows up just before every trip, in 2004 my old work truck's motor grenaded on the last day of work before going away last time. At least I didn't need to drive it to Florida that time.

Chris.

I hear ya. In 2004, we had an electrical issue with our van a week before we drove down. We had the problem fixed, then blew the alternator in Tennessee. Cost $150 and 4 hours, but we got to see some interesting areas around Loudon. In 2005, we were having more issues with the van, so we got an Escape. No issues driving down in 2005 or 2006. Hopefully this problem gets fixed Tuesday.
Good luck to you.

I have really cut it close i installed a junkyard engine in my car finishing it late on a Thursday night and left to make the 1800km trip to Florida at 2:30 am on Saturday morning never even had to add any oil during the entire trip[

Any luck with the replacement? We got ours back today, replaced entire axle, instead of sensors and disc. Tested it and no problems.....whew! 10.5 days and counting. Good luck, safe drive, and maybe we will see you in the world.

Digskat,
Not getting a replacement, but a new set of heads. Apparently GM has a problem with some aluminium heads in that year of truck. The extended warrenty company I have would not pay for a crate motor but would gladly find a used one with lower mileage. NOT!!!!:rotfl2: I'll take my motor with new parts, thank you very much! It should be ready tomorrow or the day after, hopefully. It's getting too close for my comfort.:scared:

Chris.

I hear ya.
As we drove to the dealership, I had it going through my mind that the axle wasn't shipped. Had they not been able to do it today, my next available day would be 2 days before departure.

If you don't mind me asking, what truck and motor do you have. Details would be nice. Either in here or please email me. I am looking to buy a used gm pickup or burb not sure which. It would be nice to find out any weeknesses before I decide. Thanks.

It's back running good and rare'n to go to Disney or is that me:yay: :yay: :yay: . Week and a bit to go and some other stuff is falling in line as well I think I'm starting to relax.

I am happy to have found this dealer in Ajax because the original in Pickering treated me like crap. If anyone in the Durham area would like to know the dealers I had the good and bad experiance with PM me and I'll let you know.

Chris.:yay:

Thanks for the info and happy to hear things are better. Have a great trip.

I understand the frustration. It has been one thing after another with a 2004 Grand Prix. It is in the shop now preparing for the trip to Florida(from Ontario) But, I realized this week we are better off than my friends boss. He left his Cadillac at the dealership for a few days ,waiting for a part. When he went to pick it up, THEY COULDN'T FIND IT! It was stolen right out fo the lot! They tried calling ONStar, to track the car/have it disabled, but the modem was disabled. They think it was an inside job.

The real kicker is....THEY WANTED HIM TO PAY HIS REPAIR BILL!:confused3
Ummm, how do I know it's fixed if I DON"T EVEN HAVE THE CAR! :scared1:

I think I am going to buy a Honda next time.

To the OP: I feel your pain....I leave in a week, and today got to spend $500 on my car....lucky me! In addition to that, I have a history of dental problems (thanks to genetics), most of which got permanently repaired this year (at the cost of $25,000 - of which, by the way, only $3000 was covered by insurance, but that's a whole other story!)...anyways, I had to go in for a follow-up last week, and the specialist informed me that I had to get a night guard to protect my teeth....I have to go in tomorrow, at the cost of $900....oh lucky me...the hits just keep on coming!!!

And then I read this:

I think I would have freaked out....I am a pretty passive person, but seriously, are you kidding? What car is he paying for??? I would've seriously stood there staring at the person in disbelief if they had asked me to pay for my missing car....someone must have been a few watts short of a light bulb that day!

My favourite.... one of the first people hit in the new speeding laws, was a mechanic from a London dealership, who was test driving after a repair job, and was caught doing 60 km over the speed limit. He had the customer's car impounded for a week (and was fired)
