I currently own 370 points at the BVW and for the most part have been able to book vacations there with no problems. Occasionally, the BWVs have been fully booked and we've stayed at SS because of it's ample availablity at the 7 month mark.

Now, here is my question, and I know it can't be as easy as this. But, if I am looking to add on points, for instance, through the Timeshare store and I am presented with the option of purchasing any number of points at approx. $55 PP for Vero Beach vs. $75 PP at Saratoga Springs, knowing that SS is most certainly going to have availabilty at the 7 month mark, why not buy points at whichever resort is selling the cheapest, i.e. VB and book a SS vacation or any of the other more expensive DVC resorts if so fortunate at the 7 month mark and get the better bang for the buck?

What's the catch. What am I missing?

The MF will over take the savings on the purchase in about 10 years or so. The other problems is that if a storm damages the resort you will have to pay for it and DVC could limit you to stay at your home resort only.

The catch is that you will be paying MFs for the resort you buy at...SSR has MFs on the lower side and it sounds like it might be a good fit for you! VB on the other hand has higher MFs...

Thanks Cel_Disneycouple99. FEES Fi Fo Fum.

As noted, the fees will eat you eventually. But maybe you want to stay at one of the off property resorts periodically which will shift the discussion in favor of that resort. The other issue is you get what you pay for, the points will only be worth roughly what you pay. Everyone's situation is different and IMO, the # of points you're looking at will make all the difference, in general I think SSR is the better deal. OTOH, you may want to consider paying a little more to get a different home resort like BLT even if you want stay there routinely, esp if you may stay there at times OR rent them out at times. Also don't forget the OKW extended contract options. And if you're looking at a smaller amount of points, buying directly may still be your best option and if that ends up being the situation, OKW, VCG and BLT likely rise to the forefront.
