sometimes, you really do get exactly what you always wanted and dreamed of.

I found out yesterday that I finally will be “downsized” on December 31. My company has been going back and forth since September on whether I go or stay.

Yesterday, they actually put the choice in my hands by offering a very generous (and voluntary) severance package, which I am going to accept.

After 10 1/2 long years with this company, I will finally be done with working full-time and will move onto being a stay-at-home mom and homemaker, which is I ever really wanted to do with my life.

I’m so happy, I’m ready to burst! It’s truly a lifelong dream come true.

:D

Good things come to those who wait!

Congrats Janice!

With the shape the economy is in these days, I can't imagine wishing for unemployment no matter how nice the severance package ist. That money won't last forever.

Enjoy your time at home! Being a SAHM is my long-term goal for my life as well. :)

Congrats JJ! Enjoy your time at home.
There are alot of down-sized Kodak workers in our area who are very glad the took the packages offered early on. The people who left later got much less........

I hope it works out for you and your fellow employees who leave the company.

LOL! Most people are terrified to be downsized. You're taking the bull by the hands and making lemonade out of lemons.

Welcome to the club...but beware what you wish for, LOL! ;)

Seriuosly, Congratulations!!!! I know from your posts that is what you really want and Im glad you are able to do it now. Best of luck to you in your new career! :)

Good for you, Janice. The break from the work place will do wonders. And what could be better than being home with the kids. Sweet people have sweet things happen to them and you're living proof. Enjoy!:smooth:

Invest the money wisely and enjoy the time off and do things around the house and get more involved with your son's school and take advantage of the unemployment for as long as you can get it. Don't forget to roll over that 401K!

Wow, Janice!

Can you do it? I'm sorry to hear about your job, but you sound so happy.

Trust me I was so glad to be home when my kids were babies, and now to be working only part time thrills me!

You may be able to find something part time, and that will work financially.

A good early severance package is so good, because sometimes you get a worse one later on.

I was one who always just wanted to be a mom as well.

10 1/2 years .. did they follow the 2 weeks for every year severance formula or did you get more than that formula?

Congratulations! It's wonderful to see your dream falling into place. I'm also an aspiring SAHM. I'm at home right now, due to several circumstances, but I have to patiently wait for the baby. :)

I'm so happy for you Janice! You sure do deserve it:) Before you invest be sure to buy a home computer syster "K". You deserve all the happiness in the world!

Thats terrific, Janice. Best of luck to you in this new stage of your life. :)

Thanks for your kind wishes, everyone. Truly, this is excellent news for me and my family.

Cindy, the formula was pretty complicated because I'm being let go under an "enhanced" severance package. It turns out that I'm getting slightly over a year's pay.

We can definitely live off my husband's income although it won't leave much cash for extras like Disney trips. So I will to go back to work, but part-time, late in 2003.

Janice,
That is wonderful! I would love to be a stay at home mom also. More now with an 8yo than when she was a baby! LOL I'll have to be satisfied with working part-time (Keith's new job allows that for me) from my home. So, it could be worse, I know! :)
Enjoy your new life and freedoms and have fun with your son. And also do all that investing stuff ;) they've told you to do! It all sounds great!
(Are you going to buy a computer so we'll still see you around here??)
