Has anyone noted whether the US hire cars have Isofix in the rear seats for child car seats? Wikipedia claims that this system is not commonly in use over there yet.

Just trying to decide which car seat to take for DS. We are hiring a seven seater if that makes any difference.

Most cars you rent have the latch system required to use isofix car seats. Generally the bracket widths are standard but it might be worth triple checking with your hire car company x

It had a different name over there that escapes me at them moment but I can say in the 7 seaters we've had I haven't noticed any connection points for isofix.

I personally take DDs non isofix seat with us.

I think I will take the non-Isofix then. It is slightly lighter than the other car seat at least. Thanks.

Yeah we just attached ours without taking the isofix base :) we had enough luggage without it :lmao:

:goodvibes

We always just hire a seat - can't be bothered with the bulk. And yes, before anyone says I know "what if the seat has been in an accident"? I say "what if your car seat has been thrown about in transit"? To each his own, I just have enough luggage to deal with, without car seat issues as well. The car seats we have hired have always been fine.

It's the cost that gets me of the rental seats and having seen the piled up several times I have issues with the cleanliness too :sad2:

We stick DD high back booster in the case out and it need be it comes back separately :thumbsup2

When she used a full seat we had a bag for it that had back back type stripes making it easy to carry.

Think my problem is that DD would need a high back booster and DS has a Maxi Cosi Axiss - the car seat that swivels...oh my does that weigh some! For anyone thinking of renting, we have always rented with Alamo and never had a problem with cleanliness of seats. The 2 seats, plus stroller, plus 4 cases and 4 hand luggage hmmm that pushes the boundaries a little for us, however if it works for some of you then great. Obviously it is nice to be able to use your own car seat when you know how it works and where it's been! x

If the children are tall

Enough to cope with just a booster. We have seats called bubble bums that are inflatable but roll up. They are good as slip into hand luggage. Trunki also have a back pack that has storage space and is a booster seat. The little people can carry those as their hand luggage.

If you need a group 1 or high back then I would rent xxx

I would never rent a car seat from a hire company again after our poor experience in Australia. They are never guaranteed by the Company and it is only if they are available. We had a nightmare after the long flight to Brisbane where there were no car seats available anywhere even though we had pre-booked. We ended up having to drive against the law to a retail park and hope we could buy one. Soooo. now we have an extra car seat that we don't really need - ended up giving one to my parents for those just in case days. I personally wouldn't take the risk again of one not being available and would take my own.
