Isn't there a 3 night minimum req'd for the free DDP package?

We booked so long ago ( April) that I have forgotten the rules....and we may be doing a split stay now.. but I am pretty sure we would need to stay at least 3 nights at each resort, and do the base tix thing...right?

Yes to both. You need to stay at least 3 nights and buy tickets for each stay that you book in order to qualify for the free dining promo.
