Isn't it a little early to start a PTR?..Why yes, yes it is.(we are back!12/13)

Since I still have a looooong way until I get to finalize my day planning for the parks (Waiting for December hours and my ADR DATE!) I have been obsessing over our drive to FL. Since I finally got Tuesday approved off we were then thinking about leaving Monday night. I know I wouldn't be able to sleep well anyway....why not get the road trip started early!

Our household has had some arguments about the drive down.....Dave seems to think we can just wing it....me on the other hand want a plan in mind.

I have purchased 2 books to help with my planning....The parents guide to I-75 and The next exit. The first shows anything that will get your kids out of the car and keep you sane (it shows every McDonalds with playplace:lmao:). The second is every major highway in the us and what is at each exit. They both have helped me a lot.

I now have 2 plans for driving (I have mapped them on Dave's GPS)....the first splits the mileage up pretty evenly. The second gets almost half out of the way monday night.

travel option #1

Monday drive from home to nashville and stay in hotel in Nashville.....331mi/4hours 48 minutes

Tuesday am leave Nashville for Atlanta stop in Atlanta at the Children's Museum...245 mi/ 3 hours 31 minutes.

Tuesday PM leave Atlanta for Warner Robins GA stop there for hotel. 100mi 1 hour 30 minutes.

Wednesday Warner Robins to Orlando stop in Orlando for hotel. 345 mi/4 hours 53 minutes.

Travel Option #2

Monday home to Dalton GA stop in Dalton for hotel. 486 mi/ 6 hours 59 minutes

Tuesday AM Dalton to Atlanta Childrens museum....87 mi/ 1 hour 17 minutes.

Tuesday PM Atlanta to Valdosta for hotel. 226 mi/3 hours 14 minutes

Wednesday Valdosta to Orlando for hotel 214 mi/3 hours 2 minutes.

Whew!

There are pros/cons to both routes. I know Amelia might not be very good driving long distances without stopping. Option #2 gives us an advantage of doing a majority of the driving while she is asleep! Option #2 also gives me longer at the Premium Outlets of Orlando (our Wednesday stop).

We are not going into Disney property until Thursday morning.

I want to make sure and make hotel reservations before we leave....I have heard horror stories about not finding a hotel when you are ready to stop!

Sorry about the boring post! I hope to get some pics up soon of all the things I have bought for the trip!

Found you on Dawn's (Punkin413) TR saw your ticker was close to mine and headed over :upsidedow

welcomed our Amelia Grace on November 29, 2007.

That's MY birthday too!! Which I will be CELEBRATING party: at WDW this year :yay:

Mapquest says it will be a 16 hour drive....Dave's GPS says 14? IDK why the big difference.

I would shoot more towards the 16 mark. I was going to say 15 b/c it's about 5 hours from Nashville to you, but we are a hard 10 hour drive to WDW.

Dave thinks I am crazy for buying things now. Guys....they seriously don't know the amount of planning we do.

AGREE!! I've already bought things for my trip too. Including a BIG Vera Bradley bag, it's a backpack. The kensington print (which they just retired), so I got it on sale :woohoo: and I've been stuffing things in there as I get them for the trip!

My friend (and her girls,) who I'm going to WDW with and I also just went to Destin FL the first week of June. We were joking and said it looked like someone threw up Vera in her van. I think we counted 9 different patterns between the two of us

Amelia got to go to her first Cardinals Baseball game last night. Family photo!
013.jpg

Woooooo Hoooooooo!!! Busch Stadium (the first one) was my first pro-team game EVER! I LOVED it!!!

You have a beautiful family, and Amelia is to cute!

Passed out in the car on the way home...too much excitement!
015.jpg

A note on the foam finger on her in the last pic. On one of our walks we went into one of the team stores. She came across the foam fingers and immediately put one on her hand. I had to show Dave that she knew exactally what to do with one. He in turn had to buy it for her! He said "It can't be that much, right?" It ended up being over 8 bucks (for a foam finger!).

LOVE this picture....and  love  that story!! :rotfl: So funny!!

Great job :thumbsup2

I need to get working on one of these if I'm going to do it! Last 2 trips I did it on my counter top....worked out really well and easier than making a poster.

I am not into too many breakfast buffets so CP and Chef Mickey's is out and she doesn't know too many of the princesses yet. We will see what happens!

You should go to CP for the dinner buffet....SO GOOD!!!! :thumbsup2 And I'm sure she would love the Pooh characters

WE GOT FREE DINING TOO!!!! :thumbsup2 I had a room booked and got a pin # for FREE DINING!! I was so excited, emailed Dawn and she had our package booked for us :thumbsup2!! I'm glad too b/c we are staying at Pop, so with the disney offer would have just gotten the quick service plan. So I will be making our ressies at the end of the month!! :dance3:

As far as the driving goes looks like you are going to have PLENTY of time!! However I do think that you will make it further than Nashville on your first stop. Even Chattanooga would be a good option and is about 2 1/2 hrs past Nashville. As far as GA goes I think you have a lot of decent options for stops...Dalton, Marietta, McDonough, Forsyth, Perry, Cordele, Tifton. There are a LOT of GA girls here on the boards, so just start asking around.

Another thought is get to Nashville/Chattanooga the first night, if you aren't going to be on the road for to long, and then get to Orlando the next day. Spend the night and then go to Sea World or something. You can get a REALLY cheap hotel room on hotwire/priceline websites!! It seems you can always get the cheaper rates in the larger cities.

Don't know if you would want to do this, but I would maybe get a travel DVD for Amelia. Mel has one we used for the girls going to FL. It was AWESOME. She has a 4 yr old and a 6mo old. That of course was the little one's first trip but the 4 year old has only gotten to use the DVD on 'long' trips. It's one that velcro's on the back of the head rest. But we even watched little Einstein video's and the baby LOVED it!

Sorry to ramble so much, there were just several things I wanted to touch on :). Enjoying your PTR :santa:, and we'll be doing the same things along the way I'll enjoy bantering back and forth with ya.

Yay for someone else going the same time as us!

I would shoot more towards the 16 mark. I was going to say 15 b/c it's about 5 hours from Nashville to you, but we are a hard 10 hour drive to WDW.

We are soooo confused on the drive time. Dave's grandpa keeps telling us it will be 20+hours! I have looked on the transportation boards and people from our area are still saying roughly 16 hours.

AGREE!! I've already bought things for my trip too. Including a BIG Vera Bradley bag, it's a backpack. The kensington print (which they just retired), so I got it on sale :woohoo: and I've been stuffing things in there as I get them for the trip!

Dave and I got into an argument over taking clothes....neither one of us has much casual summer stuff right now so I told him if he thought he needed more shorts for the trip we would have to look for them soon because by November when we would be packing they would be gone. He told me that he wasn't ready to plan his "outfits" for each day.....I said I know it is early but think about it!.....guys!

My friend (and her girls,) who I'm going to WDW with and I also just went to Destin FL the first week of June. We were joking and said it looked like someone threw up Vera in her van. I think we counted 9 different patterns between the two of us

We are big fans....we got to go the World Series game in 2006 (Dave's dad's company seats) It was wonderful!

I need to get working on one of these if I'm going to do it! Last 2 trips I did it on my counter top....worked out really well and easier than making a poster.

Thanks! It took us forever to get all of the heads....I felt so bad for stealing. I was originally going to make one like Dawn does but I wanted it to start earlier!

WE GOT FREE DINING TOO!!!! :thumbsup2 I had a room booked and got a pin # for FREE DINING!! I was so excited, emailed Dawn and she had our package booked for us :thumbsup2!! Yeah :cool1: for free dining!

Thanks for the driving tips! We plan on leaving Monday night after work....which will be between 6 and 7 pm. I don't know if we will be able to make it any further than Nashville. The company I work for gets discounts at the LaQuinta chain and there are quite a few on our driving route (their website uses mapquest to find the hotels on your route) I figuered staying at one chain would be easier than multiples that way if we wanted to go further we could just use the 800 number to cancel the one room and book another. We hope to stop in Atlanta Tuesday because there is a childrens museum that I have read about and an Aquarium too. Now that I have seen that there is an American Girl in Atlanta we might have to stop there! We plan on staying in Orlando on Wednesday night and hopefully we can make it to one of the outlets before we check into WL on Thursday! Whew! Sorry that was so long!

Don't know if you would want to do this, but I would maybe get a travel DVD for Amelia. Mel has one we used for the girls going to FL. It was AWESOME. She has a 4 yr old and a 6mo old. We plan on buying a DVD player....I read too many reviews on things! I will see one I like in the store, come home read the reviews then decide against it then repeat over and over. I did the same thing before we bought our camera finally I had to just buy one!

Sorry to ramble so much, there were just several things I wanted to touch on :). Enjoying your PTR :santa:, and we'll be doing the same things along the way I'll enjoy bantering back and forth with ya.

Thanks for all the good tips! I look forward to more! Are you doing a PTR?

Drive time - Well it is about 5 hours flat from here to St Louis. It's 4 hrs from here to Atlanta, and about 7 hrs from Atl to Disney. So I do think you will have about 16 hours 'drive time.' Now actual time of course is a little different and depends on how your family travels :upsidedow

Looking at the LaQuinta's you dont' even have a choice until Nashville, and none of them are off of 24. So you will have to go a little out of your way to get to one. The Franklin one would definitely be the nicest, but about 15-20mi. out of your way. Wouldn't be to big of a deal if you would like the 'best' one to stay at, but if you decide to stay there I'll tell you the route to get back on 24 east :thumbsup2. The 2 airport ones would be your next choice, and just guessing I would prob say the one on Atrium Way and then Donelson Pike. And please don't even consider staying at the one on Sidco Drive!!! JMO, it would be your worst choice of the 4.

There are 2 in Chattanooga and it's only about 2-2 1/2 hours past Nashville. Then there is the one in Dalton and it's only about 45mins past Chatt. If you did make it on to Chatt or Dalton that is only a couple of hrs from Atl. So you guys would have plenty of time to go do somethings there during the day and then make it another hour or two to maybe Warner Robbins, GA. to stay that evening.

Then you would have only 5-6 hours to go to ORLANDO! :yay:

Just talk to hubby and see how far he will want to drive the first night and let me know....we'll get you booked SOMEWHERE ;)

Obviously I like planning the 'timing' of road trips

Funny story we were coming home from Panama City beach this weekend and we got on to 65N at Montgomery. I told Matt with one stop we should be in Franklin, to get my babies, around 2. We pulled into my parents neighborhood at 1:59 and their driveway at 2.....DANG I'm good!! :lmao:

DVD Player - not sure of the brand name but the one Mel had would velcro to the back of the head rest, so then you have control of it but it's at a good level for her to watch.

Thanks for all the good tips! I look forward to more! Are you doing a PTR?

Nah...I'm not. Although I did notice today on my phone it said we had 111 DAYS!! I'll just do my little dance :yay::woohoo::yay: on your PTR and MeMom's/Jill's TR :rotfl:

Thanks for all of the good tips Vandyfan (its Erica right?) May I call you Erica? I have read the Vandy Girls TR ......I lurked because I came in so late. Wow that makes me seem kinda stalkerish. I promise I am not a stalker.

Any way I would Love to be able to make it to Dalton the first night....that was our original first stop when we were leaving Tuesday AM. I don't see it being a good idea though. Dave has epilepsy and lack of sleep makes him have a dizzy next day. I need sleep to not be a grouch the next day:laughing:! If we didn't have a 2 year old that would sleep on the way and then be ready to go at 7am the next morning we might do it. If it were just us we could do a later start the next morning but Amelia complicates that idea.

So Nashville the first night it is. I had picked the Atrium Way LaQuinta. I was kinda questioning the hotels myself.....The starting rate for rooms at those hotels is pretty low. That usually signifies one of two things. 1. The hotel is run down or 2. the hotel is in a sketchy area. It is so hard to make reservations on line when you don't know the area or how far from the highway it really is. Can you make a recomendation of a hotel close to 24? I don't need anything 5 star...it is only one night. Just something safe and clean would be great!

If you ever need help with a hotel or things to do in StL you know who to ask!:thumbsup2

Earlier I promised pics of the many things I have bought for our trip...well here they are!

Amelia in her "Minnie style" dress for the trip. I am also planning on her wearing this to Disney on Ice!

066.jpg

OT....Please don't pay attention to the pacifier in her mouth:rolleyes1....we have been trying for months to get rid of it. We have gotten down to nap time and bedtime and sometimes riding in the car. She does not have it all day at daycare and even takes a nap there without it. I am so frustrated! I am thinking about taking it away totally this weekend and just let her cry it out (it is so hard to do though!) I have tried the cutting thing....she just screams more! Anyone that has tips please let me know!

This is my shirt for the parks. Minnie kissing Mickey....so cute!
068.jpg

Tin box I found for Amelia....I figuered it would be great for crayons and such in the car!
070.jpg

My Dollar store finds...some things to tuck in the treat bags and others for the car.
079.jpg

080.jpg

The "treat bags" I plan on using
078.jpg

Coloring books to use on the way
074.jpg

Magnetic book I found of toy story characters
073-1.jpg

The "other" things....a toothbrush holder, some tide packets, dish soap, hand soap (a lot easier than the bars in the room), and a sponge for washing dishes!
081.jpg

That is my stuff so far! I am still planning that drive down. I am at less than 30 days to make my ADRs:woohoo:.

I really think I need to step away from the computer for a while. I spent most of Amelia's nap time today researching flights.....yes flights to Orlando. My fuzzy Disney Math might make me want to fly. I found flights on Southwest for $625 for the 3 of us round trip. I figuered it would cost us at least that if not more to drive......roughly $300 for gas and $300 for hotels there and back. I also was thinking we could still leave earlier (Tuesday) and just get a room at a value resort for a few nights. This might give us more downtime and we would have a free night to do MVMCP.

Here is my proposed "earlier arrival plan"

Tuesday....arrive at Disney value resort (the flight I looked at landed at 8pm) not much to do this night
Wednesday...DTD and explore other resorts....Ohana dinner
Thursday....check in to WL explore other resorts/ maybe do a character lunch then MVMCP at 4pm

With this plan I wouldn't need any more park tickets and we could take more time to see the Christmas decorations at the other resorts.

I do have some reservations about flying though......What if Amelia has a fit on the plane. If she has a fit in the car at least it is just us and we can pull over at the next exit. On the plane we will be stuck there for the next 2 1/2 hours and possibly bothering people around us. Also do you take a carseat for a 2 year old on the plane? Or are they just buckled in? I don't like the idea of lugging a carseat through the airport. What if we take a taxi somewhere? Do we need a carseat then? (ie if we take a taxi from one resort to another for easier travel).

Any suggestions/opinions would be greatly appreciated!

HI! :) I just found your trip report and am so excited. We will be at Disney the same time as you (Dec 5-13). I live in central IL, small town 15 miles north of Champaign. I love the cardinals (well really Pujols :lovestruc). And picked out the same disney couture shirts as you for my little girl but they don't have her size. I'm hoping they'll get more before we leave. I can't wait to read more about your PTR and your TR. And maybe we'll even run into each other in December.

:welcome: Thanks for reading! Warning on the Disney Couture shirts....I bought Amelia a 3T size and after washing it just about fits her perfectly....(I hang to dry) I hope she doesn't grow much between now and then so she can still wear it. She is a little large for her age (34.5 inches tall at her last appt and 28 pounds....she has always been in the upper 90th percentile) but in most things she can still wear 24 month clothing!

I am hoping to see some people from the Dis too! Off to read your PTR!

That is fine to call me Erica :goodvibes...I usually use screenames only b/c I cant remember the actual name :rotfl:

Honestly if I got a discount through LaQuinta I would stay at the Atrium Way spot. You will get off of 24 on to 40 for about 2 miles, it's just not that much further. And in Nashville downtown and the Airport hotels would prob be the nicest. But if you are wanting any hotel then you could prob go to Murfreesboro and stay somewhere there. I'm sure Clarksville would have some ok places to. But I don't know much details about either place. I'll look into it a little closer for you once you know.

Getting the discount the Franklin LaQuinta would be your BEST option and would be one of the nicest places you could stay in the Nashville area, but it would be 20-30 miles out of the way. Not difficult at all but it would be off 65 south.

The "other" things....a toothbrush holder, some tide packets, dish soap, hand soap (a lot easier than the bars in the room), and a sponge for washing dishes!

LOVE that soap....it's my new favorite scent there!!!! :thumbsup2

Sorry I can't answer any of the car seat questions, but I think the flying is a great idea!! It can't be more than aprox 2hr flight there. And I agree with the $$$$ with the times you guys will be spending the night too.

Were you factoring in renting a car?? If so you could easily stay at a hotel somewhere on I-drive for CHEAP! But I'm sure they have got some decent prices on the values during that time too & then you would be on Disney property. If you weren't on Disney property Sea World would be a fun different thing to do!!

Hi, there! Chiming it to state that it's never too early to start a PTR. Of course, that could be because I've started one for my Dec. 2010 trip. :)

Your family is lovely - the WL is a gorgeous resort at the holidays (that's where we stayed last December).

I'm not sure how long the flight will be for you, but I would never drive my kids to WDW (from PA, it would be a two trip unless we drove right through). I've flown with my kids from 6 months on up and they've been very good for us. But even if we were worried about them acting up, you're looking at a few hours of agony versus a whole day of driving. At least on a plane, you can get up and move around and still be en route to your destination. She might surprise you and do really well. You can never tell - if it's at all possible, try to get a flight that would correspond with nap time, she might sleep for you. I would absolutely get her her own seat. Even if she never sits in it, it gives you more room. Plus, she gets a carry on and "personal item" just like every other paying passenger.

As far as the car seat goes - if you want to use it on the plane trip itself, it has to be certified for airline use. I've never used a car seat on a plane trip, so I don't have any recommendations in that area.

Good luck with your planning!

I think we changed our minds again!:lmao:Dave and I talked this weekend and we feel right now with Amelia it would be better to drive. I would really like to have a car with us because of Amelia and the car adds to much $$ to the flying option. I have been looking at a Holiday Inn Express in Manchester for our first night...any thoughts? The reviews seem promising. Plus according to my "Next Exit" book there is a Starbucks at the exit. I have a theory (one that I stole from another diser) that Starbucks = nicer exit!:rolleyes1

Thanks for joining! I am still afraid of her screaming the whole way there on a plane! I have broken the driving trip up enough that I think we will be ok. (Giving us ample time to stop and wear her out for a nap!) Plus I get to go to the Premium Outlets!:woohoo:

I just bought a portable DVD player from Amazon! Can't wait for it to get here. We will be trying it out in a couple of weekends. We are driving to my parents house and it is about a 2 hour drive. Amelia :lovestrucLoves her movies so hopefully she will love her DVD player!

:cool1:It's one hundred and four days til our vacation!:cool1: I had to write that to pay honors to Phineus and Ferb....Dave and I really like the cartoon. I wish the characters were out in the parks!

I will be back later....when Amelia goes down for a nap. I got a mega shipment from Disney shopping! Lots o' bargans!

I had one of the worst days at work yesterday. We have lost 2 of our staff and once the students go back to school next week we are going to be so shorthanded and I had to make a schedule for a week after they go back to school. Let me tell you....I don't know how we are going to handle it! I was almost in tears making the schedule! Usually we have 3 techs in the am and 3 in the pm and one that works 10 to 6:30 to cover extra in the middle. During the week I was making on a particular Wednesday we have 1 tech in the am 2 in the pm....nobody overlapping! Any way I could go on and on about the situation but here is where my day gets sooooo much better!

I pull into the driveway. I was a little bummed also because Dave was at his uncle's house for the evening fixing his air conditioner and I was going to be alone most of the evening with no one to vent to (Amelia listens but she doesn't give very good advice!:lmao:).

What do I see on our front porch! My package from disney store online!!!!!! I was super excited. I had ordered lots 'o things the preceding week and they had finally arrived. I seriously got some great deals....along with $5 shipping and 20% off. My total was like $114. Here is my stuff!

A thermal for Amelia....It has princess pics on it. It is a little big but hopefully it will fit perfect in December!
H2312G0014M.jpg

A night gown for Amelia...I thought it would be perfect for Disney in December!
M3896G0004M.jpg

A shirt for me....It says on the back "Where dreams come true"

A shirt for Dave

T shirts for Amelia

B5601G0032M.jpg

Beach towel for Amelia with her new favorite character!

100042.jpg

Pants for me....They are kinda big....they are to go with the tink hoodie I bought before but I think they will be sleep/lounge pants because they look a little sloppy to wear out.

100481M.jpg

Sleep pants for Dave

101808M.jpg

Those are all of my big deals.....I am off today to find Amelia some black shoes to wear (crocs?) to disney on ice....all of the shoes she has are pink and they will clash with the minnie dress I want her to wear!

Sorry you had a bad day at work - I know how seeing a package can brighten things up, though. Having a DVD player in the car is perfect. The only downside is my kids are so hooked on being able to watch movies in the car they can't get out of the driveway without asking me to turn it on.
Very cute clothes! When we were at WDW last December, it was in the 60's and fairly chilly. It was a lot colder in Pennsylvania when we left but it didn't take long to get acclimated - I wish I'd brought a few warmer tops with me.

I have been looking at a Holiday Inn Express in Manchester for our first night...any thoughts? The reviews seem promising.

I think that would be a perfect spot!! Of course don't know much about the hotel, but I would think that would be a fine exit to stay at. And if they reviews are decent that's all that matters!!

But that will get you 45mins-1hr out of Nashville and then you will only be a little over 3 hrs away from Altanta!! :yay:

I just bought a portable DVD player from Amazon! Amelia :lovestrucLoves her movies so hopefully she will love her DVD player!

:thumbsup2:thumbsup2 I'm sure she will love it!!!!

A shirt for me....It says on the back "Where dreams come true"

If you order one......they run a little big....I bought a L thinking it was fitted. It is bigger than I thought it would be.

Welcome! Your ticker looks like ours would have a year ago!

We are down to double digits!!!!!! :cool1::cool1::cool1:

I also am dancing because Amelia went to sleep last night without her pacifier!!!!!! I took it away from her Wed night. Let's just say we had a few ROUGH nights. She went right to sleep without any fuss last night. I promised her we would get her a "mermaid" doll when she slept without the pacifier.

:woohoo::woohoo:Let's dance some more!!!! I have 11 days until I can make my ADRs. (ie...until I am up at 5am in front of the computer!)
