Hi,

My husband and I are planning on an Orlando trip in 2007. We have read a bit on Islands of Adventure but I would like some input from real people (not people paid to tell us how wonderful the park is).

Our DD is going to be 8 years old and although she will be tall enough to ride most rides, she is timid when it comes to fast amusement rides. I am wondering if IoA is timid kid friendly or we would be better off spending an extra day at a less intense disney park (Magic Kingdom or Epcot)?

Thanks for any help you can lend.

Kindest Regards,

First off, I would plan on doing both parks, not just IOA. There is plenty for everyone. You have the big coasters, and they have child swap where you can wait for your husband while he rides, then you can ride. Easy right? They have all kinds of fun stuff for kids. There's spiderman, dudley do right, popeye, Camp Jurassic, The discovery center, Flying Unicorn, Sinbad, and of course seuss landing which has three great kid rides, and may, by the time you go, have another. You may want to cancel one of your days at disney so you can enjoy another day at Universal and do the studios. There you have Shrek, Jimmy Nuetron, Twister, Mummy, MIB, Earthquake, JAWS, Fear Factor Live, Animal Planet Live, Barney, and ET. Plus a few others that I forgot to mention. Hope this helps.

To be very honest, and most will not agree with me, but it may be a waste for her to go. My dd isn't the biggest thrill ride person & her least favorite park is IOA. She will do: Spidy, Cat in the Hat, Fly Unicorn & Caro-su-sel. That is about it. She is now 13 & is too big for the Peri-Flyers & really doens't care for one fish two fish. On the other hand, she really enjoys going to US. She loves the MK & EPCOT. Now that is just my dd. As I said, many will not agree with me. You & your dh, sure you can do child swap, but that isn't her having fun.

Plenty more than just those to do. Especially for an 8yrold. Kids are different, and my kids really cant stand MK, though Epcot is fun. Maybe my kids just listen to me complain too much, they hate the crowds that are ALWAYS at disney. My 8yr old loves Spiderman, Storm Force, Popeye, JPRA, Camp Jurassic, Discovery Center, Flying Unicorn Sinbad and all the things at Suess Landing. Of course he's counting the inches until he's tall enough to ride Dueling Dragons, like I said all kids are different. Generally, though, there is plenty for kids to do, and also some things for parents to enjoy.

If you are going in 2007, gosh thats at least a year away. I would not make any kind of judgements on how brave or timid a child will be in a year. She might surprise you. My son was the opposite....he desperately wanted to ride all the rides and he wasnt tall enough. We had to avoid IOA for that reason for one year, but boy when he got tall enough he was ready! If you get tickets to both parks, you could just spend most of the day in US ( she can probably do almost everything there except maybe mummy) and then go check out IOA for a couple of hours. Then she can see them and kind of get the idea, and there are still lots of rides that arent scary there. Hecl, my son is 14 now and still loves to play in the water play areas. Nothing quite so fun as squirting your mom with a water cannon! ::yes::

You are 100% correct, there are more to do than what I posted, however, poster said dd was timid. Kids are different, but timid is timid. My dd is timid & never did count the days till she could ride DD. She is 5'4" @ 13 & has no intentions of doing DD or the Hulk. She did try Doom & would never go back again. Yes, she does like Camp Jurassic I forgot to mention that, but only when it is warm enough. Oct is an iffy month. It can be warm enough, but then again, it may not. I also forgot to mention, she does like Popeye...again not thinking of water rides at this time. She use to go on Storm Force until one time she got sick when she came off of it.

We have been to Universal parks many times. I have four kids, now 4 1/2, 9, 14, 16. They all have different personalities and different ideas about what rides are fun. They all have a fantastic time at the parks. They have SO much to do there. They have a really cool talking fountain that squirts the kids and jokes with them, a favorite of my kids. There are all kinds of neat shows in addition to the rides. I think that even the most timid child would have a good time at the Universal parks.
