Island Tower at Polynesian Villas & Bungalows

The sad thing here is that after actually staying at the new Cabins, we would absolutely love to add on there... except the dues math and restrictions are so terrible to own points there. We'll continue to use our other points there and I foresee us staying there much more often that I would have thought. It's the ultimate "drive right up to the door" for those of us who drive to WDW.

While we already own Poly and probably have enough points to make things work there, it makes more sense to add on there being unrestricted (i.e. - if I had to get rid of the points, someone could use them at Aulani) and I can just take my chances at 7 months at the Cabins.

I'm sorta feeling that after Paul's last bit of information, most of the cards are face up. And come October, there's going to be a lot of confused DVC guides who are wondering why they have so few sales with the Poly Tower after all the pre-sale hoopla.
I saw nothing in his update that would turn people off, $235 + small discounts and a 2BR lock off with a Bath in the living area plus no restrictions. To me, this is the MK resort for families with younger children who want a lifetime resort. BLT is the bargain now for price-sensitive resale family buyers and Poly is the flagship. VGF, with the studios, is always going to have the seniors and the DINK market.

Yes - Let the DINK buyers go to VGF !
I am holding out for BLT resale, as a SINK (Single Income Numerous Kids) :P
I am wondering, however, if after the PIT release if someone might move an existing reservation to the new towers that would open up something for me to switch to in January (at either PVB or BLT ) ???🤞

The unknown in this will be how hard it is to book the larger rooms since Poly overall is such a studio heavy resort (and a point sink with respect to the bungalows).

That said, we are a DINK couple who love our original VGF points for 1 BRs, BCV for F&W, VGC for VGC, and love our BLT points to get a week in the PVB bungalows (but have no desire to own at PVB because it is so studio heavy).

99 days until Island Tower opens. 🎆🎆🎆

Reminder, here is a list of what was declared:
  • 9 - Duo Studios
  • 14 - Dedicated Studios
  • 4 - Dedicated One-Bedrooms
  • 10 - Lock-off Two-Bedrooms
  • 1 - Dedicated Two-Bedroom
  • 2 - Penthouse Two-Bedrooms
When Disney decides to open point bookings, the race for the dedicated 2BR is going to be worse than today's rope drop race for Tron.

Agreed! Although that dedicated 2BR is a theme park view, right? Probably too points-rich for me; suddenly, lock offs are seeming like a better idea.

I have no need for more points at this time, but now you've got me doing math on a large contract for every-third-year bungalow trips only.
We really like BLT - great location, good food options, etc - and are perfectly happy staying there but they also happen to make great SAP+ points for us at least. So, when we decided we wanted points for an every 2-3 year weeklong bungalow stay, adding on more resale at BLT was the clear choice for us (we would be unhappy at a resort where we could not walk to park).

Thank you for summarizing what’s been declared.

My 5 yo said we need to stay in the Moana themed hotel and go to the splash pad (DVC Snob). I guess I’m buying Poly? Question is do I go direct or resale. I really don’t feel like participating in the DVC version of the Hunger Games for a 1 BR during a school break.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't even believe that DVD/DVC has announced when the rooms will be open for point bookings. Right now the only thing that has been announced is that available rooms will be offered as cash reservation. I would expect that wouldn't change until after the winter holidays, after the Disney marathon and likely after MLK weekend. As a guess, maybe around Jan 22 or so, point bookings might start. Again, if there's newer info out there, please just post it up. It's a been a lot to follow this.

Are you talking about availability for just next year, or in general? I think the 1 bedroom fight even at 11 months is going to be rough during peak periods. Might as well go resale and save the money, unless you really want unrestricted points for future resorts.

We have ruled out buying Poly (for now) until we see if my fears about 1 bedroom availability hold true.

I have the same Moana issue... but it's my wife not child lol

Don't wait for school breaks. Kids can miss school. This coming from a teacher.

I guess it depends on if your school break is the same as other school breaks, but looking at that room count, 14 one bedrooms available for the tiny slice of the resort that’s been declared actually doesn’t seem bad. I guess there’s risk some will be booked as 2 beds, but if the points charts are as high as I’m expecting maybe they won’t book up immediately either.

By the time this goes on sale we’ll know full resort room counts I think right?

I am hoping we will be able to stay in a POLY 1 bedroom once in a 10-trip cycle.

I think the issue is that all current Poly owners will also have the ability to book these 1 bedrooms. It won't just be limited to new purchasers buying the new slice of the resort. Unless someone wiser can confirm otherwise?
