Iselle Gone; Hurricane Julio Almost Gone, too; UPDATED 8/10/2014

Hi disneypoor, we have been contacted by Aunties that the programme fish are friends has been cancelled for tomorrow, we have also just returned from the beach where staff are making sand bags and placing them I front of the shacks. They are also removing structures, eg the roof of the beach hut We were out this morning and also heard on the radio about emergency shelters, and water storing, I am assuming that Disney are planning for the risk without trying to cause alarm.

I agree and do think that Disney is probably not wanting to alarm anyone especially when they really don't know for sure what is going to happen. We are just hoping for the best and praying we can fly out tomorrow!

On another note, my kids and husband swam in the pools until 10:00 p.m. last night, so they didn't end up shutting them down. It is just odd to me that people are getting told different things. I figured they might shut stuff down tonight though although it doesn't look like anything more severe is supposed to start here now until about 5:00 a.m.

Stay safe! We're just hoping for an uneventful night and praying we can fly out tomorrow!:goodvibes

Update Friday Morning, August 8, 2014

Tropical Storm Iselle made landfall near Pahala HI on the Big Island about 2:30 AM HST (8:30 AM EDT) with 60 mph winds. Pahala is near the southeast coast of the Big Island and about 12 miles southwest of Volcanoes National Park. Heavy rains and tropical storm-force winds are hitting much of the Big Island as Iselle moves off to the west. Iselle is forecast to remain south of the rest of the Hawaiian Islands as it moves westward, and it is expected to continue to lose intensity. It should be past Oahu by Friday night, but Iselle will still bring rain to all of the Hawaiian Islands, including Oahu and Aulani.

Hurricane Julio is about 950 miles and two days behind Iselle and continues to take a path that should pass just north of the Hawaiian Islands. Overnight, Julio strengthened to a category 3 hurricane with sustained winds of 120 mph. It is expected that Julio will lose some intensity as it encounters cooler water temperatures near Hawaii, but it is expected to remain at hurricane-force intensity as it passes by the Hawaiian Islands on Sunday and Monday. Although Julio probably won't make landfall in Hawaii, its effects will still bring rain and heavy surf to the islands.

As I write this, the good news is that Honolulu International Airport is still open. Flights are scheduled to arrive and depart today, although there may be some delays.

We are at Aulani and are scheduled to fly out today. The weather wasn't nearly as intense as I was expecting, so that is good news!:thumbsup2 Our flight was scheduled to leave today at 12:45 p.m. It got moved to 2:30, then 3:15, then 4:30, and now 5:00. We are hoping to get out today but are planning to hang out at Aulani as long as possible just in case it does end up cancelled. The weather channel says the winds won't drop below 30 until about 9:00 tonight. We are hoping they keep pushing our flight back but do end up flying out.

On a positive note, our week here was WONDERFUL! We had perfect weather and did everything we wanted to. The only issue we had was yesterday when government offices closed early due to the fear of the incoming weather. We weren't able to use our Pearl Harbor tickets because our tour was scheduled at 1:00 and they took the last tour out at noon. We then decided to head to Manoa Falls and do that hike but realized it was government operated. We found out it was closed as well. Other than that our trip was fabulous!!!:goodvibes

CONTINUED thoughts for everyone departing and arriving into Aulani!:)

Anyone there now have a weather update in the next few days?

Update Saturday Morning, August 9, 2014

On Friday, after being only the fourth tropical storm or hurricane to make a direct hit on any Hawaiian Island since 1949, Tropical Storm Iselle remained south of the remaining islands. As of Saturday morning, Iselle is southwest of Kauai as it continues to travel westward. It has been downgraded to a tropical depression and forecasts call for it to fall apart in the next 24 hours. Oahu and Kauai are both in for some rain today but things should clear later today.

The forecasts on Hurricane Julio are good for Hawaii. Julio is currently a category 2 hurricane with sustained winds around 105 mph and should maintain hurricane intensity until Monday. However, the good news is the Julio is on a track that should take it to the north and northwest of the islands. Julio is not expected to make landfall on any island and, more importantly, it should remain 100-300 miles north of the islands, meaning that Julio's heaviest rain bands should not reach land. The biggest impact Julio may have on the Hawaiian Islands is high surf.

We arrived home safe and sound this afternoon around 5:00. Glad to be home but can't wait to get back to Aulani! Safe travels to you! Hope you made it to Maui! Been thinking of AnalAnnie the last few days too! Glad you made it! Enjoy your trip!

GLAD that you made it back safely! Glad that the hurricane impact was minimal!

Aulani is a BEAUTIFUL place and I'm certain that your family has WONDERFUL memories like ours!:thumbsup2

I stare at a great pic of the resort I took every day which I framed in a really NICE AULANI pic frame! :dance3:

One of the BEST vacas that our family took together! We can't wait to return, but most likely will be a few years!::)

Update Sunday Morning, August 10, 2014

Iselle has dissipated and Hurricane Julio is on a track taking it away from the Hawaiian Island chain. Although Julio is still classified as a category 1 hurricane with sustained winds of 90 mph, it is far enough to the north of the islands to have little impact on them.

No other tropical disturbances are active in the Eastern Pacific, so things should remain quiet for awhile.
