Is your house bigger than your friends houses?

My sbilings envy my view not my house. I have a great view of the ocean from my bedroom. DH and I bought the property from my mom and tore down the cottage that were on it. We built a modular house. I do think I have a larger house then my siblings but since I have taken in 2 siblings and our mom (at different times) no one seems to mind.

I was the 2nd sibling to buy a house. At first, their envy was directed to my 2.5 bathrooms! Growing up it was 11 people (8 kids, 2 parents and my nana) in 1 bathroom.

I grew up sharing one bathroom with a whole bunch of people, too. Now we have 2.5 bathrooms and I love it.

We live in a development with homes that range from 2500 to 4500 sq feet. Our's is about 4000 square feet, but keep in mind we have 7 people in our family. We don't have the biggest home, but we do have the biggest yard here compared to friends in our neighborhood and elsewhere.

I am from Hawaii and it is very congested there with small homes on small lots so I really don't think about comparing my home to others. Just so long I have a great yard I am happy. ;)

We have a decent size home (2900 sq feet). We have friends who have smaller homes, and we have friends who have mansions. The mansions are fun to visit. We don't care either way about the size of our friends' homes. One thing I do know, though: Your belongings will expand to fill all available space in your home. We could have a 10,000 sq foot house and it'd be filled with stuff in no time! :)

I have friends with larger houses and friends with smaller houses. No jealousy from me about the friends with bigger houses and not usually any jealousy from the ones with smaller, with one exception...one woman I know used to constantly make comments out our house, how much bigger it was than hers, how much nicer, etc, etc. I thought that was a big turn-off since I don't consider house size to be any sort of a competition. I'm actually clueless about how many square feet our house has. I'd guess (totally a guess) that with the finished basement it's maybe 4000 sq ft.

Our home is bigger than most of our friends' homes but not all of them. But we also have a larger (blended) family than most. We don't think about it most of the time but we have had several people make comments about our house being a mansion - not even close! They also don't know that the good Lord was watching over us with this house, it was a foreclosure so we got it for a really good price!

I have a friend who built a new house and they made all the rooms small and the common areas large because they like to entertain and say they're only in the bedrooms to sleep anyway.

:lmao: I post on a "Simplicity/Simple Life" message board and the people there are always comparing who's home is the SMALLEST. They even have contests. Who's home has the least square feet, most energy efficient..blah blah. :lmao: As soon as someone says their home 2000 sq. ft. or more people get cranky and start to flame. LOL!!!

I just want to note that square footage can be deceptive. We built a 2000 sf home recently, a center hall colonial 'box' if it matters. The construction is very solid, but the design purely stinks! I am forever walking into walls, the hallways you almost have to turn sideways to pass through, ditto with doors! Every room feels teeny tiny. Don't come to my house if you are claustrophobic! It was the first time we built, and things look really different on paper! My sister built the same style house, but 1700 sf, and I will SWEAR that her house is ALOT bigger! It is open and airy, with very few walls. It was a beautiful custom design. Her husband does this for a living, and removed every wall he possibly could...what a difference! They also went for higher ceilings, which makes all the difference in the world. So bigger doesn't mean better in our case....you live and learn.:confused3

We have a core group of about 4 couples that we get together regularly with. Around here it's not so much about the home but the land. We have 60 acres of land our home is 2300 sf. It fits our family just fine and we love the land.

Some of our friends have blended families and needed larger homes, some are just getting married in their thirties and have built really cute smaller homes that suite them and some went all out the first time around.

It's really a non issue. We all grew up together and then moved away but have managed to all come back "home" within the last few years. We are all just glad to be close again and our kids are growing up together!

We all adore our one friend's home (they just built), it's not the largest of the group but has tons of fantastic features and lots of upgrades. We joke about needing to build new homes to keep up with the "Thornton's" but it's all in fun.

We get together almost every weekend and we rotate homes. We are all comfortable no matter which house we visit.

We would love any of our friends whether they lived in a mansion or a shack. You just gotta have a sense of humor, know how to play cards and like sec football!

Our house at just over 1600sq is not bigger than any of our friends. However, we take cooler vacations then our friends...so different strokes for different folks.

Our house is 1200 square feet, and there are 4 of us living in it. I personally love my teeny tiny 100 year old row house, but a lot of people would not like living where we live (urban area, no backyard, no driveway). Most of our friends live in huge McMansions in the suburbs in homes 5 times the size of our home. Our home is worth about the same as theirs, but I wouldn't trade mine for their homes for any amount of money. I like my small home. The only thing is I wish I had a pantry!! I told my husband if we ever move that is my only request, a kitchen with a pantry. :p

For many years the answer would have been yes: Our house is bigger than our friends. Now that the kids are grown and have moved away, we also moved to a new town where we just didn't need as much space. However, because we're new here, we don't really have any friends houses to compare to:confused:

Our house is pretty small but one of my friend's actually has a smaller house!
