Is Your Heat On??????

We are in the DC area. Inside our house, it has gone down to 62 degrees, but we have not turned out heat on yet. Trying to hold out until at least November 1st.

Yesterday, I turned my air on LOL. I live in a townhouse and the new neighbor, connected to me, must roast the house. Since they moved in, my heat has to be so much lower. Problem is, she is warming me too much!

I do not open the windows for personal reasons so, it is air or heat.

I lit the pellet stove for the first time on Sat just for the night to take the chill off. I do not use our electric heat and will not turn it on. Too early to be having the pellet stove running continuous yet here in MA.

I've added blankets to the bed and put on warmer clothing. No one to snuggle with this year.

They are talking about possible snow on Thursday. Not a big deal. It will all be gone same or next day IF it even sticks. The ground isn't frozen yet.

Since putting in a new furnace and getting a new thermostat I really have no idea if the air or the heat is coming on. It is set so that they are both "on" and whenever it gets hotter or colder than 70 in my house it turns on. LOVE IT and thankfully our natural gas rates went down this year so it won't cost more than about $100 a month to keep my 3500 sq ft house comfy at 70 when the snow flies. We are due to go into the 40's in the next couple of days so I am sure the heat will turn on but lately it's been cold in the morning, warm in the afternoon and cool at night. I don't even think about it as mine is set to 70 year round.

Nope. Still running the A/C.

10 day forecast calls for it to cool down on November 2nd to 73 degrees. Then maybe I can open some windows instead of running the a/c.
Yup, the trick or treaters will be a little warm.

The heat is ALWAYS on here.......

Oh you mean INSIDE...No...and it probably won't ever be. I think we used ours twice last year.

That is cool!

Sticking or not, the "s" word should not even be whispered before Halloween.. Sheesh!

Pretty much the same in here in Austin. I think our heat still works, but it's not like we use it very much. We HAVE used the AC on Christmas day, though, more than once. And we always have the AC on for our annual New Year's Eve party. Otherwise it would probably be too hot for clothes. Trust me, you would NOT want to be around this bunch of middle-aged folks if they'd decided it was too hot for clothes.

Excuse me... I have to go wash my brain out with Lysol now.

It's not a philosophy, it's a matter of budget. If I can put on a sweater or sweatshirt, and save several hundred dollars I will do just that. My heat is gas and it costs an extraordinary amount of money each month...like $500 or more. So, if I can just wear a sweater, I'll put off turning on the heat for as long as I can.

Then I would be walking around in a parka, hats and gloves inside the house.

I wear a jacket at 72 inside the house.;)

We have not had to turn it on yet. It's been pretty nice here weather-wise, and we have a sunroom that gets almost all day sun so it warms up the main part of the house pretty well when it's sunny. We are big blanket people so if we're sitting and it's cool, we throw on a blanket. We also added extra blankets and comforters to beds this weekend so sleeping is comfortable.

Pretty sad to hear we'll be getting snow by Thursday night, :sad2: we're still wearing sandals, lol.

Recent install of new furnace/AC/thermostat. We set it to the temperatures we want for each, both are on all the time. If one or the other is needed, that unit runs. Many days/nights this past month, both run various times during the day/night. Set and forget

I do not understand the philosophy of "waiting" to turn on heat. If I am cold the heat goes on.;)

mines been on for a few weeks now... I refuse to be cold or hot... I do not see the point.

ETA its always 70 or 71 in my house.
I don't understand that either. If we're cold the heat goes on; hot & the AC goes on.

Ours has been one & off for the past few weeks also. DH has also had the gas fireplace going, which I think is a little much because it's not that cold out, but whatever. If someone is cold they grab the remote for the fireplace & flip it on.

I remember when my widowed aunt retired.. One of the things she said was, "I did not work, scrimp, and save for 35 years to sit around being too hot or too cold.."

And she didn't - no matter the cost..

Im going to purchase a couple space heaters next week...it gets really chilly at night and the heat laws are not in effect this early for landlords .

I couldn't live anywhere that allowed the landlords to determine when my heat goes on.. I normally don't use it at night (back at DD's for the winter - I keep the vent in my room closed tight) - but here at the lake there's no insulation so I have to use it at least part of the time.. During the day I'll turn it on and off as needed - but overnight I let the thermostat control it so it will kick on when it drops to 58 or so.. Otherwise it would be brutal getting out of bed in the morning.. Waaaaay too cold!

Do you pay your own electric so the landlord won't complain about the space heaters? And make sure you have the proper wiring to use them safely.. I wouldn't leave them on overnight or when you're out either..

How about an electric blanket? I'm afraid of them myself, but my mom used them for umpteen years without ever having a problem.. (My biggest fear in life is fire - guess that's why they scare me..:guilty:)

Snowing outside -- we turned out heat on this morning -- but, it's only set on 65 degrees.
