Hi, looks like my DD will be working on one of the ships by the end of summer. Anyone else have a family member working there? Any tips or input for us? The good, the bad or the ugly? Thanks....

CMmom has a DD onboard...I am sure she can advise you, but I think she will most likely do some of it by private message.....at least any discount aspects of it or parts of the job that are not meant for public knowledge! Disney is very strict about what can be posted on a public forum. Congrats to your DD....when type of position is she going for?

Thanks, I talked to CMMom last yr, and couldn't find her this time around. Right now we don't know the position. Just really curious as to what to expect.

I'm curious as to how your child got a job with DCL? What process he/she went through, etc? Can you share any information about that? Feel free to PM me if you want. Thanks! :sunny:

ColeenD, I sent you a PM. For those that are interested, information about working for DCL can be found at www.dcljobs.com. In the US they hire directly but overseas they hire through local agents. There's lots of info about working for DCL on the website including some neat videos of interviews with the Kids counselors.

For those that are hired, it can take quite a while from the time you apply to the time you're actually hired. Part of it is interviewing and part is the medical and background checks. Then they have to slot folks into positions that are coming open on the ship.

FYI, DD LOVES her job but she works HARD and wears out shoes at an amazing rate - one pair every 8-9 weeks. Typical week is 70 hours. That's 10 hours a day, seven days a week for the entire contract. But to quote her "I get to live in the Carribean...and I get paid!"

I am ColeenD's DD. I went through Sixth Star Entertainment and Marketing. Filled out their online application and they got back to me really fast. I'll be working in the gift shops (don't know which ship yet). VERY EXCITED!!! As my DM said last night "I'm standing on the threshold of my dream!"

How excited and best of luck and everything when your contract begins. If you've been hired then you have the qualities that DCL and indeed all of the Walt Disney Company seeks--never forget that!! I'm sure my own experiences are typical of DISers and even guests who--horrors!--don't spend all day at DIS, in that some of the smallest gestures on board have brought so much MAGIC and WONDER to our family's vacation--like on embarkation day, a CM noticing that we are wearing Castaway Cay t-shirts and saying "welcome back", or a CM who remarkably isn't being pulled in a thousand directions at once noticing a bewildered, lost, or frustrated facial expression, and taking it upon himself or herself to ask with a smile "Can I help you with something?" Seems like a small gesture, but it seems so much larger when you compare it to the non-DCL world. I hope at the end of your long days, you will remember all the smiles you gave out to Guests and the little gestures and know that all of that meant so much.

very very nice Logan....

Good luck Robin!
