Is YC a "convention hotel"?

We are trying to decide between YC and BC for our trip next winter. After reading a lot of posts, I was leaning towards YC. They both sound wonderful and I think we would be happy at either.

Anyhow, my friend is attending a convention at WDW next week. During last year's convention she stayed at YC, and this year YC is booked so she is staying at BC. The convention is being held at the YC. She said "the YC is more for conventions and the BC is more for vacations". I had never heard this type of comment before. Is this true??

We stayed at the Swan on our last trip, and did encounter some convention groups. Didn't bother us - we weren't there to work! However we will have our boys along (DS6 and DS9) so I wouldn't plan to be by any conventions. I was leaning towards YC because both boys tend to get "sensory overload" at Disney, and I thought the quieter hotel environment would be more peaceful for relaxing after days at the parks. Neither of my boys are very loud or rowdy, so I'm not worried about that. Any comments? Thanks!

I had not heard that it is a convention resort at all. We are staying there in November and have read many posts etc.
Never once have I heard this.

Yes, it is true. The Yacht Club has a fairly large convention center attached to it (I believe the name is the Grand Harbour Ballroom). If it is a large convention, both the YC & BC can be booked.

It's definitely a convention resort, but most of the time you hardly see the people attending because they are at the convention center. It is a good ways from the main building next to the place you self park.

One of our three stays at the YC, I would say you could tell there was a convention. It was an automobile dealers convention and new cars were parked all over the front lawn the entire week. Not a pretty site in my opinion.

even if a disney resort does not have a convention center connected to it they book groups into. They will even book the Poly as overflow for the Grand and Contemporary.

It is still a vacation resort! I wouldn't let this deter you from booking there. It is a *fabulous* resort! The convention center is beautiful too. It is not directly connected to the hotel, you have to walk down a sidewalk to get to it, but you can walk in and take a look. There was one going on last year when we were there. I saw two men in suits in the elevator once, and the only reason we could tell they were with a convetion, was because they still had their nametags on!! ;)

(Think about it - if many guests are with the convention - they'll be busy all day, so more room for you at the pools!!!)

There was definitely a difference once the "conventioneers" landed! And to tell ya the truth,it wasn't a positive difference.
