I was planning on puchasing those small boxes of wine for my trip. I was planning on double zip locking them (individually) the putting them in one zip lock big bag and then putting them in a plastic tote style box. I was planning on bringing the plastic boxes anyway to bring back souvies. I was just wondeing if this is allowed in my checked bags? TIA

It's allowed in your checked luggage, but you can never be TOO careful. Also consider bubble wrap, towels (your own, not 'acquired' from the hotel :teeth: ) or clothing as additional padding/protection. And another zippered plastic bag for the outside of the plastic container.

But, um, you know Disney sells wine, right? If you buy it onsite, sure it's a little more expensive than bringing it from home, but then there's NO chance of any bottle breaking and leaking out of all that wrapping and into someone else's luggage.

And if you buy on-site, there is no chance the wine will disappear somewhere between check in and arrival at baggage claim. ;) :)

Some airlines ONLY allow alcohol if packed in a certain approved packaging, and there have been reports of it being removed if not packed in that container.

With airlines being more pickey on weight of bags, if you do pack wine, make sure it isn't going to cause you to pay overweight fees when you check in.

I can just picture your baggage claim area. 100 people with wine soaked luggage. I don't think it would be a very pleasant area for you to pick up the bag that is still dripping wine.

Even if you pack it double plastic bags it can still leak. Often baggage people are not careful with the luggage and accidents can and do happen.

I would never pack any beverages in checked luggage. It is too risky!

You can get wine delivered to your resort, or buy it on the way from the airport, or buy it at the resorts as well. There are many better options than bringing it!

i travel with wine bottles in my luggage all the time. the key is to protect the wine bottle and the the place you put it in your luggage. i would never pack box wine, even if it was in two plastic bags. the box is not strong enough to with hold the pressure of other luggage on top of your luggage. If that box bursts, like someone said

I'm in no way encouraging packing wine in any way - but you're aware that while the box may get crushed, there's a flexible plastic liner inside that actually contains the liquid, right? I mean, if a plane wheel rolled over your luggage I'd say, yeah, the wine's a goner; but 'normal' baggage handling? A box would be safer than a bottle.

Thanks for all the replies. I wasn't planning on bringing a bottle and I didn't think there was much difference in bringing a small (as in 3 glasses) box of wine vs. every other liquid I have to pack (contact lens solution, astringent, ect.) I just thought I would ask since I am at the mercy of WDW transportation.

The difference is that if your shampoo or toothpaste leaks, it is viscous and will most likely not leak out of the bag. And both are easily washed.

Wine can leak and soak other bags, causing a sticky, smelly mess, and red wine stains.

Don't believe me? I've had my clothes and suitcase ruined thanks to someone packing ill-stored wine, and thus I am very cautious in recommending this route.

Wine can be purchased many places onsite.

I took a couple of these small boxes of wine in my luggage in March for our Disney Cruise and did exactly what you are saying you are going to do and we had no problems. We were on NWA, so I don't know if that makes a difference.

Oh and the plastic container that I put them in (after putting them in zip lock bags) was the type that seals tight and doesn't leak if it has liquid in it, but nothing broke or happened, and I was able to use the zip lock bags for other things once on our trip.

I recently went on a cruise and purchased some Rum Runners to pack some alcohol. If you google it the web site should come up..the containers come in different sizes and are leak proof, meant for travelling.

The Hess stations on-site sell alcohol plus there's the CrossRoads shopping center next to DtD. I also *think* that the Walgreen's up the road from there sells alcohol as well.

We always go to a Publix and pick a few adult beverages up.

agnes!
PS - Rum-Runners? They sound cool though....I'll have to remember that for the future.
