Is whispering canyon in Fort Wilderness?

Hi,

We've never been to this area with the exception of the Hoop de Doo after dark, many moons ago.

I'm thinking of booking a trail ride at Fort Wilderness with my DD and combining it with lunch at Whispering Canyon. Does anyone know how far it is from one to the other?

WC is at the WL. FW is next to WL. There is a walking path between the two (almost a mile). There are also boats you can take. The boat including the wait, takes about 15 minutes.

What is a trail ride? Is horseback riding or is it a like a hay ride type of thing? Can anyone tell me how much it is and how to book it?

According to Passporter Walt Disney World Resort the cost for horseback riding is $32 and reservations can be made at 407-824-2832. A trail ride is horseback riding along a trail. It's great if you like horses and just want to ride but most of the ones I have been on the horses are so familiar with the trails they could do it with their eyes closed, however, I have never ridden at Tri-Circle D at Fort Widerness.

So, if we were to go on the trail ride and lunch at Whispering Canyon afterward- would we park at WL then boat over, boat back etc. DH has back issues and can't do a mile walk. Also, if he wanted to go with us and not ride, is there anything for him to do over in the area of the stables? I'm trying to get a feel for the layout.

The stables are at one end of Fort Wilderness Campground. They are at the entrance to the campground. The boat dock over to Wilderness Lodge is over by Hoop Dee Doo. You would need to take a bus through the campground to the boat dock. I believe the only thing around the stables is the check in which only has a small seating area. However it has been awhile since I checked in at Fort Wilderness. Your DH might prefer to wait at Wilderness Lodge. They have many comfortable seating areas in the lobby and there is a tour of the Wilderness Lodge on some mornings.

So, we could just drive to the stables then? He could drop us off and pick us up there, or we could just walk back to WL? I just remember when we went to the Hoop de doo we had to take a bus. We couldn't drive. Can we just drive to the stables?

You can drive to the Outpost. That is where the stables are. This also where you drive when you went to HDDR.

But you are not going to be able to walk back to WL. You can take a bus back to WL.

I understood your previous post to mean that there was a walking path between the two? Do we have to take the boat? If DH is back at the Lodge, the girls and I would probably enjoy the walk.

Sorry to confuse you. In your original post, it didn't register with me that you were talking about the stables (which are at the outpost). I was thinking carraige ride (which is at the Settlement).

The walking path takes you to/from the Settlement to/from WL. From the Settlement to the Outpost is about 2-3 miles(?).

So in your case, the bus is the best bet.

Um, just something here, not sure, but I didn't think they HAD lunch at Whispering Canyon? I could be wrong though...

If not, they have a nice buffet at the Trails End buffeteria at the campgrounds, you would have to take a bus from the stables to the settlement area (where the Hoop De Do is). I'm pretty sure they have a lunch buffet unless they discontinued it when I wasn't looking!

I'll double check it but on Mouseears they had the menus for brk, lunch, and dinner and it said that lunch was served there from 12-3. I'll make sure before I go though.

They have lunch. It is usually very quiet. They do some of the stuff they do at breakfast and dinner but not as much.
