is war talk slowing sales?

First of all, its not like there is any real danger of us losing this war. People are uneasy, that will definitely have an impact on sales, but I don't think it is make or break kind of stuff.
9-11 did put EP on hold and replace it with the much less ambitious SSR.

If 9-11 hadn't hapened, I think we would be discussing how far over $100 per point is EP going to open at. Now on another thread, we are seeing discussion of SSR opening at $90.

In short, I think 9-11 and its lasting effect, has done more to hurt sales than this impending war.

I will give my two cents as a family looking to make our first purchase at DVC. I think I have finally convinced my DW that we should buy into DVC. But she has put one condition on the purchase. She wants to see what happens with the war, any associated terrorists attacks and the affect all of this has on the economy. So at least for one family, it has had an affect.

We were at WDW last week and our guide told us that BCV is now over 75% sold, with anticipated sell out of June (approx).

With all the stress and strife going on, we went to BCV and added on points and are thinking about yet one more small add-on. In times like these, I need something to look forward to, and when I'm at WDW, I always feel that nothing bad can happen to me there.

DH is in Kuwait and we made our offer before he knew he was going, but I think we'd have done it anyway. However, picture this. He was reviewing some info with other marines, and overheard a conversation about buying a timeshare in Disney. Turns out the guy's wife just bought into DVC yesterday. Apparently it hasn't slowed them down!

Something is slowing down sales. I would think it's more the poor economy, but I'm sure the talk about war isn't helping much. If sales weren't slow, why would Disney offer the MB of $10 or $15? Just MHO, but I can't see DIsney giving away anything right now, they have seen a major down turn in business the last year or two. I just did my part to help Disney get back on track, an add on at BCV.

lacool- I am curious as to why you would buy DVC since you could utilize SOG?

Our prayers are with your family and all our service families!

I'm not lacol, but we own DVC, and can utilize SOG. I think you'd be surprised at how many military families belong to DVC.

For us, SOG isn't always such a deal. Because of dh's rank, we don't qualify for the rock bottom rates. Also, it's like comparing apples and oranges. SOG is nice, but it's not a Home Away From Home Resort. It's nice that we can book at the Contemporary right now, but it's the Garden Wing, and I'm not fond of the Garden Wing rooms at all (actually, I'm not that crazy about the Contemporary:o ). SOG isn't an Epcot area hotel, and we love that about our home. We don't get to "own" a piece of SOG. When we get reassigned OCONUS (Outside of the Continental United States), SOG won't allow us to trade out for resorts around our new duty station, whereas DVC will.

All this is not to say that we won't ever use SOG. We're planning an extra little trip to AKL this coming fall, and we're using overflow rates from SOG.

Ditto to that!

I love the idea of being in a 1 or 2 bdrm, and being able to put the kids to bed and still stay up and have a glass of wine and quiet adult conversation. We also really liked the idea of being "forced" to take an annual vacation. We won't break even as quickly as others who didn't have the SoG option, but I believe we are getting our money's worth!

Thank you, lodgelady (any many other DISers from whom I've heard) for your prayers and support. It truly means so much to myself and my family.
