Is Walmart food really that good.

I was reading through this thread and was going to respond...and then I saw that I did already...a year ago!! :rotfl2:

But had to respond to the PP's statement about the pharmacy. We've used their pharmacy for years and have only had one problem in all that time. My name was on the outside of the bag, but someone else's medication was inside the bag. Went back inside and they corrected it, no problem. That sort of thing could happen at any pharmacy when humans are working, they do make mistakes.

We get all but one of our prescriptions there. Metformin they raised their price by a lot so I called around and instead of $68 for a 1-month supply at Wal-Mart, I can go to Rite-Aid and get THREE months for $18.99 total! I asked the Wal-Mart pharmacist about it and he said he couldn't get me a lower price, so I went with Rite-Aid for that one.

While there might be criticism about how they pay most of their employees, they're going to be paying about what any drug store would for a pharmacist. Nobody messes with the personnel at a pharmacy, since there are some serious ramifications for making mistakes.

As far as meat goes, I've been to a WM in another country. Way different experience than in the US. All the meat was weighed and cut on the spot - not in prepacked trays.

And if you want decent meats, try Asian groceries. There are some Asian supermarket chains that have the most extensive selections of seafood and real meat counters staffed with real butchers. Same goes for meat markets in Chinatown. I do freak out every time I hear them start up a band saw though. I'm just hoping that I'm not around when someone cuts off a digit or even a hand.

Their beef is pre tenderized- treated to supposedly make it tender, but we find the texture artificial and plastic-y. I don't buy produce there, either; it usually spoils very, very quickly, in my experience. Actually, I try to not buy ANYTHING at Walmart, but sometimes, it happens.

I think Walmart knows their meat and fruit stink, that's why they have chef's and farmers in the commercial telling us it's great! I guess if they tell us enough, we will believe them...NOT!!!! I would rather go without than bring home Walmart meat. :scared:

I am an orange maniac. It seems as if their oranges are hit or miss. Some batches are just not that good, other times they are amazingly good.

We've used our local WalMart's pharmacy for many years and I trust them. DH and I take regular prescription drugs so we go often and the pharmacists have been at this pharmacy for years and years too. Even most of the technicians have been there forever, in fact one found me a coupon for my expensive drug the other day and I couldn't be more grateful.

Yeah, it's cheaper to pay some shill to tout the superiority of your products than it is to, you know, actually offer quality merchandise.

Several years ago on another Walmart thread someone posted one of my all-time favorite lines: "The meat at Walmart scares me." Thanks, other poster.

We shop at Walmart but don't buy any of the Walmart brand items.

Us too. With 3 kids, including 19 and 21 year old boys, it's expensive enough just shopping at Wal-Mart. Can't wait for their Neighborhood Market to open in a couple weeks!

It all depends on your location. We have homes in two states.

Both are quite modest condos but one is near a very, very affluent and upscale area. The other is near a very low income inner city area.

The two Walmarts could not be more different. Walmart totally stocks their stores according to the population base that shops there.

I am not a regular Wal-Mart shopper. It's just generally two crowded for me; however, both of the Wal-Marts near my home are new or newly renovated and they are not bad shopping experiences. That said, I haven't been in one for about 6 months...until last night...(insert scary music here....)!

Actually it was fine. Well, imagine my surprise when I found a whole freezer case full of Blue Bell Ice Cream. For someone who lives in Virginia and only gets it when she travels to Florida to go to WDW, I was thrilled. Picked up 5 different flavors last night. The Red, White, and Blue was delicious. Banana Split, just so-so.

I will be spending more time at Wal-Mart.;)

Walmarts is my junk food, paper supply place.

Produce, meat, bakery I can get from local better places.

I don't grocery shop at the big Walmarts, unless I'm there for something like school supplies, and I pick up soda or chips or things like that. I am ok with getting my paper goods and toiletries there too---it's TP and shampoo, just a buck cheaper than at Publix!

I will shop at the Neighborhood Market right up the street from me, for basic groceries and produce. The produce there is ok, for things like celery, salad mix, etc. If we want peaches, grapes, etc, I'll go to Publix (or sometimes Winn Dixie).

I must be one of the few people who have had no problems with the food. I have been doing all my grocery shopping at Walmart for many years. I have never had a problem.
