I prefer to signal that I want someone's attention with a hearty "'Sup foo!"...just check my sig.

In your meeting, you should apologize "profusely" stating "I mistakenly thought we had a more informal relationship since you like to call me Toots."

Or request to be called **** McGhee instead. It makes you feel pretty.

Next time, take ALL of the supplies and hide them and don't tell her.

She apparently doesn't like to be told when something it out of stock.

:rotfl2::lmao::woohoo::worship:

I might just do THAT! :lmao:

I was thinking of just calling her toots from now on.

The plan was to go to the meeting and act all sweet and nice because that would drive her Nuts! My union prep brought me a big red pal to throw up in after the meeting! Kill her with kindness. Her boss asked if I can try not to call her hey from now on. I said no I can't, you can write me up if you need to. But I call everyone that!

This is what I get for trying to be nice! I can't wait for my DS16 to be done with school because I'm moving to Orlando ASAP! 2 1/2 years to go!

I personally think there's nothing wrong with what you did. Please keep us updated with how things work out. I hope you don't have to work closely with this woman every day.

I think in informal settings between co-workers, friends, people you might bump into on the street, "hey" is fine. I wouldn't address one of my customers in that manner, but would have no problems saying that to one of my co-workers.

I think she's going to be very lucky if she doesn't get greeting by "Hey, Toots!" for the rest of her career. I'm pretty sure everyone will be thinking it!:lmao:

Thanks for the laughs! I wanted to ask, just in case I was the crazy one!

We were going to meet today but Her union prep wasn't there. BTW: her union prep is my friend. She told me not to make her laugh in the meeting! :lmao: What a waste of time & money. Here we are facing lay offs and 6 people have to go to a meeting because I said"Hey!

I did meet with her boss and my boss instead. I told her boss that if she is this mad about me calling her "hey" she needs a mental evaluation! ans she (the boss) should be talking with her! not ALL of us. I printed out the Definition of Hey & Toots and give it to her boss. :rotfl:

We have to meet next week.

What a day to quite smoking! :guilty:

I'd start drinking.

Seriously, what a loon!! I'd be mad that all this time is being wasted on you calling saying "Hey" around her, and I'd definitely bring up that she called you "toots". I might even through in some nightmares and migranes and suggest I needed some time off to get my bearings.

I thought Hey was like saying Hi
I would complain about being called toots - if anything is not right it is that

Agreed.

Her boss asked if I can try not to call her hey from now on.

I can't wait for my DS16 to be done with school because I'm moving to Orlando ASAP! 2 1/2 years to go!

But you're not *calling her* "hey", it's just a way to casually start a sentence. You could say "Hey, Mary, the cards are restocked", and you're not calling her by the full name "Hey Mary", know what I mean?

Heck, go now! My mom moved across the country a week after I went to college, and it sucked JUST as much if not MORE as if she'd moved while I was in HS. At least I would have known the area when I came "home" from college! Go now!

:lmao: You guys/gals are sooo funny! Thank you!! I so needed this tonight!:lmao: Like I said earlier I stopped smoking yesterday, this person (I can't bring myself to write lady) isn't helping. :headache:

Hey Toots! :lmao:

Agreed.

I totally would but I moved DS16 a lot when he was in grade school. I promised him I would not move him again. Plus I might have to wait on Orlando. DS hopes to play college football, if he does I'll move close but not too close (100 miles or more) to his college so I can watch him play. I'm trying to talk him into an east coast school. :upsidedow

I had DS when I was 18, so I never been single and free. What better place to start then Orlando! I'm been preparing him for the move. And I made sure to tell him that he welcome to come. He knows that I just want to get away from my mother! He completely understands! My mom is just as bad as this person at work.

Exactly! In the way the OP used it, it was like an informal form of "Excuse me." A way to get someone's attention before you just started talking.

I've heard the "Hey/Hay is for horses one" before, but this week I heard a new one which seems to apply in your situation. "Hey/Hay is the first step towards horse manure." :lmao:

That's right. I wasn't name calling. I'm a professional. I would NEVER call anyone Toots!

I'll have to read all these replies again right before my "meeting" with her.

I found out recently that some people think 'What?' is rude.

I was taught that saying "what?" when you didn't hear someone was rude. So I try not to say that. Blame my mom!

I voted "maybe" for saying hey. I was also taught that it was rude, but I've found that it varies depending on where in the country you live. In the south I see it's commonly used and not taken rudely. In the northeast (NYC, Boston, etc) I've found it's considered rude. So I try not to say that, either.

I don't think I'd be offended if someone said to me "hey, are you going to the show tonight?" But I would be offended if someone said "Hey" meaning to get my attention. But I wouldn't let the person know I was offended because I think hey is becoming more acceptable so I just need to catch up with the times.

Thanks for your comments. I can see it being rude too if I said Hey You .......!

And I agree I wouldn't say anything either, I didn't tell her that Toots was rude. because it's just not worth the wave it might bring in the work place. I choose my battles. And I might have said I'm sorry, I'll try not to say Hey to you IF she was polite about it, but she took my head off! :sad2:

Thankfully I don't have to work with her too much, She's the receptionist. And thankfully I'm in an office with a door!

It wouldn't bother me. I would be more offended at being called "Toots." That's just plain lowbrow!

I don't like it either but I would never have gotten weird about it. I would have been just as offended at 'Toots" from an associcate although she'll say she was bing affectionated and you were being crass. I think they are both crass. I'm not above being crass from time to time but sometimes my husband says 'hey' and I just refuse to speak back until he corrects it. It's one of the very few things I don't like about it. Im lucky!!
