Is Universal worth it?

If you don't do thrill rides?

I am not a fan of the "Big Drop" rides. At WDW I do everything except Tower of Terror. I tolerate Splash Mountain since the drop is quick. I ride Rock N Roller Coaster but the launch almost kills me every time! Love California Screamin', BTMRR, Space Mountain, Matterhorn.

I have the chance to go to Universal end of September--I would like to see Harry Potter world, but not sure if I can take Forbidden Journey.

Is it worth me going if I am afraid of the thrill rides?

In my opinion I would say yes because is it like a simulator ride more in such and not a roller coaster it jerks you around but mainly a simulator but get other peoples opinion first.

Forbidden Journey is not a rollercoaster and does not have any drops at all. Its a very smooth ride, I get dizzy from the simulator portion sometimes, but thats it.

Yay! I didn't realize it was a simulator! Now what about all the other thrill rides?

I didnt do any of the big rollercoasters (Ripride/Hulk etc) but there was still loads in Universal that I did and loved.

Simpsons & Spiderman are both simulators and great, MIB is a shooter, Twister & Disaster are fine - I did Mummy and it was great & not anywhere as scary(a ride) as I thought it would be - I would put it on a level with Everest/RnRC

We did do Ripsaw falls though if you dont like drops dont do it - bigger drops than Splash (though I made myself ride it and did enjoy it!) plus there are some cute rides like ET and shows (we didnt have time to see any last time) plus the new Despicable Me sim ride

So yes there is tons to do at Universal apart from the big rides - go - you will love it - and I havent even touched on the characters - walking down the street and having Scooby & Shaggy pass you and shout to you from the Mystery Machine - priceless :D

I am sure you will love Spiderman. Popeys is a fantastic water ride. May want to skip Jurassic park water ride. The drop is extreme compared to Splash Mountain. FUN though lol.
There is loads for you to do accross both parks I think. It really is an amazing place.

Thanks for all the advice, folks. We won't have a car so I'll have to do the Mears shuttle, but it sounds like it could be a good option for one of our days.
Hopefully the crowds in late September are like those at WDW--lower!

There aren't a ton of 'big drop' rides at the parks.

The Hulk coaster has a very fast launch. Dragon Challenge has a decent sized drop, as does Rip Ride Rockit.

Jurassic Park and Ripsaw are water rides with drops.

And then there is Dr. Doom's free fall.

So a total of 6 attractions between both parks with a drop.

That leaves Spiderman, Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey, Hippogriff, Popeye, The Seuss Landing Area, The Simpsons, The Mummy, Men In Black, ET, Despicable Me, Twister, and Shrek, not to mention shows like Terminator, Bettlejuice, Sinbad, and the Horror Make Up Show.

Plenty to do. And maybe when you see the actual drops of the other rides, you will decide to try em. If you can do Rockin Roller Coaster and Splash Mountain, I think some of the coasters at Universal would be doable (Rip Ride at least).

Ya, I wouldn't really call Spiderman a simulator either. It is a vehicle on a track that moves through different rooms with scenery and there are 3D images projected on huge screens in each room.

I heart you for this response! This was exactly what I needed to know! Now I definitely want to go. Is it possible to buy the Express Pass if you are not staying on site?

yes you can buy express passes

Yes, but they are good for only one use. You can buy a VIP ticket(expensive) that includes admission and Express but if you're going to do that you might as well stay onsite one night and get two days of unlimited Express along with Early entry :) and just buy a two day ticket....Come to the Darkside! We have cookies :lmao:

I would not spend that extra money during a slow time like the end of September - you should not even need it. Also, we learned that if you do the Single Rider line at Harry Potter Forbidden Journey you can ride it many times without much wait at all. We have been in the off-season before and Harry Potter was the only area we had lines, we didn't wait more than 10 minutes for any other rides in the other areas or at Universal.
